I'm serious. Let's have ONE forum post for us fans to be (even slightly) positive about the direction the team is taking. It seems bad now, OK. But I firmly believe we have pulled the house apart and now we are rebuilding it in the right way (Albeit still work to be done.)

If you want to be negative, head to ANY other forum discussion board :)

For Example;

This is a team of Crows players aged 23 and under:

FB: Sholl (20) / Butts (20) / McPherson (21)
HB: Doedee (23) / McAsey (19) / Worrell (19)
C: Hamill (19) / Schoenberg (19) / Milera (22)
HF: Keays (23) / Fogarty (20) / Davis (23)
FF: Stengle (21) Frampton (23) / Murphy (21)

FOLL: ROB*(24) / Jones (20) / McHenry (20)

OTHERS: Gollant (18) / O'Connor (19) / Taylor (19) / Poholke (22) / Himmelberg (22) / Gallucci (22) / Crocker (23)

OK ROB is 24 but he didn't debut until later and rucks take longer to mature.

If you stretch it to 25, you can add in MCrouch, McAdam, Knight, Kelly, Wilson and Strachan.

Add to this over the next two years; (AT A MINIMUM)

2020 Draft : Pick 1, GWS 1st rounder, 1st pick of 2nd round + Edwards, Borlase, Newchurch.
2021 Draft : Pick 1-3, 1-3 pick in the 2nd round, 1-3 pick in the 3nd round,

PLUS whatever compensation picks / traded picks we get if/when players leave

We are going to have some serious talent in 2-3 years.

Be patient young grasshoppers.

I honestly think Will Hamill is the most exciting prospect I’ve seen walk through the doors in many years.

His pace, agility and spacial awareness is elite. Mentally his attacking nature compliments the skill set.

Really hope he can push up to midfield
He's surprised me with his defensive efforts. Seems way stronger than he appears and possesses some good defensive traits to go along with his ultra attacking mindset.

He's also tough and willing to go when its his turn, which seems to be the stumbling block for many outside types (especially younger ones). He has also still got 10-12 kg to gain on that frame as well, so there is easy development left in him.

There is a lot to excited about there.

Another pre season into Hamill, Jones, McHenry, McAsey and Worrell - I think they'll all improve 20-30% on what we have seen already. Big Prospects.

There was a play on the weekend where he was chasing the ball into the d50 and went to ground, trapped the ball, spun and dished of a handball out to a free player all in the blink of an eye. Was really impressive. Sharp reflexes.

He worked hard on that last year. Good interview on The more you Crow’ podcast with Doedee discussed how that was very foreign to him when he walked through the door.

So far this year, the main takeaway is shit is bad, but at least there are some silver linings to it.

Jones, Hamill and McAsey are all looking like pieces to build around. Now it's just on waiting for McHenry to join them, seeing he's got a bit of class as well. Fogarty and Milera could be apart of this depending how they go.

I think the positive thing that gets glossed over is that we are really only in the first 6 months of the rebuild, but we are a long way towards being set with our talls.

McAsey, Butts, Worrell, Fog, ROB, Gollant, O’Connor.

A real solid chance to add Thilthorpe to the mix as well and that gives us the makings of a very solid spine in 1-3 seasons.

just some positive stats i thought everyone here would appreciate

Since entering the competition in 1991 we have won more premierships than 5 clubs (Carlton, Collingwood, Melbourne, St kilda and the Bulldogs) not bad considering two big Victorian clubs are in that list.

Also we have equal amount of premierships with 5 clubs since entering in 1991 (Essendon, North Melbourne, Richmond, Sydney and West Coast) again not bad as some of those clubs have had powerful sides in our time in the competition so i think we stack up quite well in our short history.

Also even if its for the time being we have won more games than 10 clubs since 1991 (Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda, Sydney, Bulldogs). I also know you can look at it as we have seriously underachieved since entering the competition which we have but we are far from the worst performing club and even our rebuild however long that will be will not change that fact.

As we have seen with a club like Richmond, a teams fortunes can turnaround very quickly, so keeps your heads up everyone we are not the first team to endure this and we certainly won't be the last.

Yeah - also his play during the Smith goal when he got the ball in traffic in the centre of the ground. Looked gone for all money but he somehow managed to change his direction in a very small space and dish the hand pass back to Smith who then goaled.

Yes I’ve been calling for Hamill to play AFL since I saw him in the SANFL last year. Clearly a class above our other kids.

I’m baffled it wasn’t more obvious to more people, Sanders the only other one I can recall being boosting him around that time. I am sure I have missed someone. But most people seemed more impressed by Sholl’s 27 uncontested possessions per game.

If you didn’t know otherwise, you’d think Hamill was our first pick in the super draft.

Was a right-handed handball as well. Not sure if that's his natural side by hand though?

Tbh I thought Sholl was ahead of him last year as I thought Hamill was way too light at that point. Thought Sholl was more of a need given his creativity of both sides.

Wasn't sure how Hamill would find the step up but he has handled it extremely well for a skinny guy.

I think 4 flags in that time for WC...they're the most successful club going around....probably pinched one we should've had though in 2006....

Good on you for starting this thread.

I learnt the true pain of supporting a through Wolverhampton Wanderers - being relegated in successive seasons from the Premier League in 2011/12 down to League 1 in 2013/14. You learn to take nothing for granted. Wolves are now 6th in the Premier League and playing European Football.

I really think that whilst this is a dark day in the history of the AFC, it gives the opportunity for new light to spark, and as a supporter it is a truly humbling experience. We've gone from being one win away from greatness, to now, anchored at the pits. I now value each and every good thing we do in match-day. Yes, at the moment, there's not heaps of highlights, but there's more than enough to be positive about. Perspective.

Yeah if you look back in our history we should have had equal or more premierships than WC, i mean look back in 2005, 2006, 2012, 2016 and 2017 where we arguably should have won at least 2-3 from those years but didn't. We have had more than enough chances but have continously failed to take them and although we have had bad luck in some of those seasons its still frustrating.

Although i still believe we can turn it around, with actually doing a rebuild if we do it correct we can set ourselves up for sustained success hopefully avoiding underachievement.

St Kilda could probably say the same thing for 04/05 and 09/10. Frustrating for sure though

Yeah, agreed. I liked Hamill, but thought he needed longer, and I loved the reliability of Sholl's footskills. Just didn't make a mistake.

Agree with most of this exept, and maybe its just me, but i think Hamill has shown more than Mcasey .........from the game time I've watched.

Hamill just looks more comfortable than the big fish IMO.

Yeah for sure, some clubs have underachieved far worse than us, you could argue that St Kilda should have had back to back premierships in 2009-10. I am looking forward to the future for us though, short term pain for long term gain and by short team I mean 3-4 years but if that can turn us into a good side than it will sure be worth it.

Here's one I prepared earlier...

Hamill has had one more preseason at this level then fish, and also the quality of opponent plays a role here. Fish has had the tougher assignments, seeing he's copped being against King and McGovern.

Still his game at CHF was very encouraging, and if we were more prone to honor leads, he probably gets a few shots at goal (was mentioned by Brerton that we burnt McAsey a few times). He also plucked some contested marks, and considering how young he is, it's hopefully more a case of its something he's good at instead of being a fluke.

Hamill was winning contests and breaking at pace from congestion

Sholl was having someone else win the ball, pass it to him, and then spotting up a target

What Hamill was doing was harder to do, and more valuable. So I’m not surprised where things are today.

Sholl might still get there. He might need another pre-season to improve his physical presence defensively. Hopefully he gets a few games this year to experience the level.
