BY NO MEANS IS THIS A 'NAME YOUR HAWKS BEST 22' OR A PUT DOWN TO ANY HAWTHORN POSTER
I don't mind threads going into overdrive as sometimes it's a hot topic & a great read, but the 265 threads of 'Hawthorns best 22' is now exhausted. Let's face it, we ALL know our list on paper is one of the best in the league & that if fully fit only few teams would be able to compete against it. Especially with the additions of players such as Gibson, Burgoyne & Hooper. If all 3 can bring their goods to the table (which I'm sure burgers & gibbo will (not sure about hooper but am crossing my fingers & you would expect him to try his guts out.) then everything will be A!.
The depth over the park is quite good & there will be no doubt that players of good quality will see themselves @ box hill due to competition within the team. You can see that the Hawks are preparing for a big season & players will continously be knocking on the door (repeat of 2008).
People that think Gilham is only good for the third best forward are kidding themselves aswell. If you don't remember who was it that took the best 1 & 2 forward combo in 2008? Croad & Gilham. Gilham has come along way since his departure from port & you have to give credit where it is due. He is a clean cut player who uses the ball extremly well & even though you find that he is exposed @ times, it is rare that their is a defender in the comp that can contain every player he plays on week in & week out. If he becomes the 'take' the third best forward, then that is saying that the Gibbo & Schoe (if this eventuates) combo is running like a dream. Just remember Gilham was taking the best forward last year. You can never have a more than strong enough defence & to be quite honest I don't think our defence has many flaws in it especially if Croad could make a return. At worst if he doesn't then we are without him. Hawthorn recruited Stratton as another defender & with Murphy (who will come good), Suckling & Milney also lurking we should be right for depth in defence. Remember their are other players with the skill & class to play a defensive post if required. That's reality & the versatility is what makes our list so good.
Campbell Brown is by far in Hawthorns best 22. For you who go to the games you would notice his on field leadership is of the highest quality, he can guide players to the hot spots, rev the troops up when required & is the heart & soul of the club. IMO it would be great to see him used as a utility playing back as a majority & going forward for a quarter here & there to slot a couple of goals (could release another player i.e cyril/ burgers into the midfield)
Like everyone else, I can't wait to watch the new & improved 2010 Hawthorn hawks, but with the PD & RD to go, I can see the beginning of another Hawthorns best 22 thread. End of the day we don't know the internal situation of players, who is right & who is not. I will just wait for the first week of the footy show to see the best 22 available for Hawthorns first game.
