ABC presenters and their pay - do you care? Should we know?

depends, is marketing and advertising in this measurement?

advertising number 1. but length of flemington strait, if it was a snail's race, if you spell strait as in strait jacket if it fits?

number 2, well ahead of the pack, marketing people.

They are too hip to be called white collar. White nose maybe, the one thing I always notice coming back to Melbourne is the queue of blokes in the dunnies all lining up to use the khazi. Must be all the laxatives.

More info also at Crikey.

Another interesting factoid is that 214m of the 453m national wage bill is spent in Ultimo.

So anyway, now that this info is out there, after years of resistance from ABC, do you care how much the presenters are paid, and do you think that the public has a right to know how taxpayer dollars are being spent on wages at the ABC?
wow they are massively underpaid. When morons like lisa wilkenson gets paid in the millions then these wages are a joke.

you are an utter moron if you think this. They are the only people on tv that ask politicians from either party even something close to a decent question that makes them uncomfortable.
Virginia Trioli lol. Got absolutely wiped by Malcolm when she tried to ask him her 'intelligent' left biased questions when filling as host on Q & A. Not to mention she resists asking anything controversial or damaging to other left leaning guests.

there is no doubt a strong left leaning bias at the abc and not all of them are great journalists. But they ask far better questions then any commercial station (whom dont really ask questions at all) and the abc journalists do question both sides of politics. Shorten has been made to look like an utter fool numerous times on the abc. Anyone who suggests the abc dont ask tough questions to the left side are just biased to the point of having no independent opinion. if we just had commercial stations we wouldnt get anyone on tv questioning politcians at all and that would be very dangerous to australian society.

Why the **** are we paying tax for television?
Or better - you pay for it - I want my dollars to go to the Dole.
cos the media should play an important public function to disseminate news and information. If you leave it up to commercial stations then important information wont be passed on or will be tainted by common interests of the few rich people who can afford to own commercial stations. An unbiased media is one of the most important pillars to western democracy.

Interesting that the example of Viginia Trioli and Michael Rowland never come up in the gender pay gap debate. I guess that one doesn't suit the argument of the feminist proponents.

The one that surprised me was Australia's most irritating presenter Macca out-earning Mark ****ing Colvin.

I do understand Scott's argument though: publicise the senior executives wages for sure, but I don't see the merit in disclosing individual journos unless you're going to do the same for public servants of equivalent stature across the board.
Can't see Macca's salary and it's November 2024, what was it in 2013? Thanks.

I'm sad to see Paul Barry from the ABC leave media watch. It's a great last installment. He relives some of the highlights lows of Aussie media past. It's also a fascinating recap of how in 20 years we have gone almost completely digital. Social media didn't exist when he started the show. The last third he reminds us of the constant lies, disinformation and division sown by the Murdoch media. Thank you Paul.

One of THE most important shows on television. Imagine what would happen to it if the ABC was privatised.

Happy to say the kids even stick around to watch it sometimes when I put it on.

Paul Barry, Richard Glover, Michael Rowland, Sarah MacDonald and Simon Marnie in practically the same week is rough.

I still don’t like that change a few months back to the abc news website. Aside from the dumbed down wasteful design that chews up more data, all the headlines are much more clickbaity cringe than they were previously, and they’ll double dip clicks by changing the headline to keep a story trending. They were also complicit and biased in cheerleading the traditional media propaganda against nontraditional social media. Along with the depressed vibe of fta tv evident across their shows and the changes up the very top, 2025 feels like a critical year for the future shape of the abc. Best of luck to them and the risky approach could pay off but I’m not confident they’ll strike the right balance and may lose their soul in attempting to keep relevant. Still enjoy a lot of iview content though.
