Re: Time's Up Gaz

when did the GC improve its offer? the Herald sun thing about the $2 million for the first year was just sensationalist tabloid speak for what we already knew was on the table. a front-ended contract, as opposed to what we'd offer, which would be heavily back-ended

Thats one way of looking at it (I agree about our back ended offer)

The other is they suspected he might be considering signing with the Cats in the near future as was projected by Gaz and Pickering at approx. mid year so decided to pre-emtively trump that offer. Either way we're speculating.

Re: Time's Up Gaz

What about Dustin Martin ?? Western Sydney are reportadly going to offer him $2.4m !!!!!!! Now that's more than the GC are offering Ablett.

Re: Time's Up Gaz

Dustin Martin not getting 2.4 mill a year. Read the article again.

Re Gazza:people on this forum need to get over this quickly. Ablett hasnt said he is going or staying. No one knows except gaz so get OVER IT!! If you read his article with Stevie J a few weeks ago in the herald sun his last question to Stevie J was "so is it true you are heading to the gold coast next year?" You really think he would joke about this if he was going himself?? No. because he will stay a one club, premiership player, brownlow medallist at GEELONG. all the [people who are saying good riddance before he even makes a decision should maybe just hold their tongue for a bit.

Re: Time's Up Gaz

Bomber didnt meet with the Essendon Footy Club.

Gary met with GC17.

Nothing could be more straight forward.

As for WANTING Gary to go, I hope he stays but does it in a timely fashion that is reasonable to all concerned.
Basically, I am just not into eating BS up with a spoon like some on here.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I see nothing wrong with MEETING with the GC to discuss things. Maybe he wants to be thorough, and consider all options. People like you just expect Ablett to say straight away "1 million a year. No!" straight away. Would you? No, you would think about it , and weigh up the pros and cons of each. It doesn't mean that he is not committed to the club.

Also, how do you know Thommo didn't meet with Essendon? Maybe he wasn't CAUGHT like Ablett was. Look, Thommo was probably still steamed that we got his poor coaching performance in 2006 reviewed, so was shoring up his options. Also, don't you think that Bomber would have got a lot more coin once he re-signed in 2007?

Then why on earth did you go and say this.....you are doing what everyone else on this board is doing....reading far too much into an off the cuff remark.....

Re: Time's Up Gaz

-------------------------------------------------------------------

I am convinced that Ablett hasn't signed with GC yet.

Think about it. If Ablett HAS ALREADY committed to them (and signed) then why did GC bump up their offer to 2 million? If they already had Gazza, they wouldn't need to make him another offer, as they would have already agreed to terms, and how much he would make playing for them.

Also, if GC already had Gary's signature, then how can they pursue Joel Selwood? GC can only take ONE player from each club, so they wouldn't have even chased Selwood , if Ablett had already committed. I doubt they would do this all for show, as it could have backfired.

The only way Ablett could have committed to GC last season is verbally. And with a verbal commitment, it is not worth the paper it is written on. So, Gary can simply change his mind, if he ever did commit to GC, and they can't hold him to it, unless he has signed something (and he is still under contract with Geelong, which would make him unable to sign elsewhere in the meantime). But I am sure that he hasn't signed a new contract with anyone yet. (I believe Gary will stay at Geelong, though).
I'm sorry but I just had to have a chuckle at this comment. Bit of an oxy moron or conundrum of some sort isn't it? Bit hard to have a verbal offer written on paper!
Still, I hope your right. I think everyone is just speculating and there is no one that knows other than those directly involved. Having said that, I also think he will find it hard to move and he will still be on a pretty good wicket at Geelong by staying after including 3rd party arrangements. I also think he will effectively reduce the life-cycle of his footy career by going there simply because he will not be able to be protected as much as the group at Geelong are simply because they are so good. Add to the fact he is a Geelong boy and one would think he will have a pretty successful after footy career in the Geelong region because of who he is and what he has done. That may no be the case on the Gold Coast given it's still questionable how strong game will become up there and how much they will ultimately care about footy. So a few years after playing for the GC, they're not gunna care who Gary Ablett is. Whereas he will always be held in high esteem in the Geelong region simply for what he has done, something that may be diminished slightly if he doesn't finish career at the one club.

Mate..that is the whole point of that famous saying by Samuel Goldwyn.

A verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's written on.

Gary met them 8 months ago. People like me are very happy to say that isnt "straight away" to expect a decision afterwards. Gary got sprung on the Gold Coast and has remained unaccountable for his actions that day.

Thompson never said he met them. Essendon agreed. It was never reported that he met anyone then or since regarding that coaching job.

People like you might be delusional. Maybe you 're so caught up wanting Gary to stay you have lost touch with basic common sense?

That is the single most disappointing aspect of this whole saga. Ablett could've avoided a lot of damage if he had shown respect to the club by informing it of the meeting before it took place. Whether he was ill advised by Pickering is irrelevant.

To compare Thompson's situation with that of Ablett is absurd.

Re: Time's Up Gaz

For a start I don't think he's going... But

Either way, I want Ablett to farewell the club and supporters when he leaves with a lap of honour on Skilled Stadium. If this is at the end of this year or the end of his career, I don't care. I wan't to be able to thank him for the entertainment he has given me over the years, I'm sure there would be many with similar thoughts.

The Premiership winning ability of the team came about when Ablett stamped himself on the competition as its best player. That should be pretty clear to us all. He has been Geelong's best performer during the 'dynasty' and do I have to remind you of the heart/guts he showed on Grand Final day '08?? He had every right to shed a tear.

I'll be disappointed if he goes, but not bitter.

I'm deeply impressed, although these days it is suggested that the line may have been made up by someone else and attributed to Goldwyn, due to it being such a line he would have come up with.

A few others that sum up many of the posts regarding the Ablett saga....
* "If I look confused it's because I'm thinking."
* "It's absolutely impossible, but it has possibilities."
* "I'm willing to admit that I may not always be right, but I am never wrong!"
* "Put it out of your mind. In no time, it will be a forgotten memory."
* "Give me a smart idiot over a stupid genius any day."
* "Let's have some new cliches."
* "Never make forecasts, especially about the future."

Ablett jnr definately going?

I was speaking to a bloke today who is mates with a senior Geelong player today and he told me that that player( which will remain unnamed) told him that Gary jnr is definately going to the Gold Coast and that he has already told the players and the coaching staff of his intentions and that Bomber Thompson is furious but the players have accepted it. He was willing to bet his bussiness on it, and it a bloke of good character who doesn't tell untruths. I really hope for the love of god he has he's facts mistaken, but by the way bomber and a couple of players have spoken recently I tend to think it's a fact

My mums friends cousins plumbers sister gives handjobs to the janitor at Skilled Stadium and he says that Ablett is definitely staying.

Re: Ablett GC Chatter

Hutchy saying negotiations are off until the end of the season....Abletts choice by the sounds of it....doesnt look good imo

Re: Ablett GC Chatter

Hutchy's 'scoop' was that 'apparently' negotiations between Ablett and Geelong have been put off until the end of the season. 'Apparently' he is upset at Bomber's public comments about him and feels unfairly criticized re: on-field performances. 'Apparently' he also doesn't like playing forward as much as he currently is.

Hutchy's other 'scoop' was that Scarlett will miss a month with a hamstring injury. You don't say....
