To be fair they haven’t had a huge turnover in recent times even though they haven’t won a flag in over 20 years.

Noble, Shaw (some extenuating circumstances behind his short tenure), Scott, Laidey … that’s pretty much it since Pagan left isn’t it?
Not sure Laidley and Shaw constitute 'stable', to be perfectly honest..

Ok lets do the math.

Simo at the end of the season has 2 seasonsleft under contract. 24 months. THATS Simo's maximum job security at the Eagles, 24 months. Thats it.

If the Eagles are terrible again Simo could go at the end of next season. You assume he will get paid out the final 12 months, no one knows if an early termination clause exists.

Now North knowing they have to pony up to land a good coach offers 5 years.

Thats 60 months.

Now do you think North would sack him after his first season due to the team performance? No they wouldnt, they know any new coach needs time.

So your aguement about job security being better at the Eagles is just false. The jungle drums are beating and credits in the bank are all but gone for Simo at the Eagles. If he wants to continue coaching long term then for both him and the club it may be beneficial for both parties agree to move on.
That's all framed pretty conveniently though isn't it?

Simmo could be very confident that he'll turn things around at West Coast and get an extension, and not believe the same about North.

He could also be confident that he could serve out his remaining 2 years, get the sack and still get another coaching gig. Or just not want to go to North as much as people think he does. If I try and put myself in his shoes, sure you would consider your options at this point but I hardly think he'd be rushing for the door to save his career while he still can.

I think that ridiculous extension in 2020 pretty much has guarnteed Simmo will be there next season at least. If things go south again like they have in the first half of the season then questions could be raised but I think we could still a couple or few more towards the back end of the season to save him for sure. I'd like us to have a rebuild with a new coach but it is what it is right now with Simpson.

I just hope we aren't stupid and going after the likes of Jackson and giving away two first round picks. I hope he stays at Melbourne, English should be a target in two years, who knows then Jackson again in three years.

Its alright, its alright…

Quotes from the article reveal he is safe…

Simpson, pictured, began this season with a 63 per cent win-loss record at West Coast, which has dropped to 59 percent off the back of a 2-12 win-loss record so far this year. But he has CREDITS in the BANK at the Eagles having coached the team in 196 games since taking the reins in 2014 for 116 wins and 79 losses with one draw.

Credits in the bank extend to all.

If he was Ken Hinkley, he'd leverage this into a two year extension to 2026.

The only way Simpson would take this offer is if he knew he was getting the sack from West Coast in 2023. As it stands, he's locked in to be coaching us next year. He's only stuffed if he repeats the same mistakes at the start of 2023 that he did in 2022 and back end of 2021. If he's stupid enough for that, then he should be sacked by rnd 3.

Getting rid of a premiership coach is a big deal. You could end up with somebody worse. That risk is there. That said i still lean towards moving Simpson on. Not as an act of punishment for the mistakes that have been made. Those things have already hapenned. No point crying over them now or punishing people. The relevent question isn't who should we punish for the mistakes but who is the best person to start cleaning up and rectifying the damage from the mistakes. And what i hear coming from Simpson and the club in general, i.e. that this is all because of Covid, there were no mistakes and anybody saying there was is just an angry uneducated supporter reacting overly emotionally to a bump in the road, makes me feel very uncomfortable about having him be the person to make the calls going forward. If he appeared to be living in reality and acknowledging how bad the season has been and how bad the mistakes made over the last few season by those in charge then have been i might be inclined to support giving him another year at least to show some direction and control. But the complete denialism going on makes me very uncomfortable with him.

I don't think it is all his fault. We have an ageing list and have been at the top missing out on top picks for a while. That is a big thing and it is not his fault. But the ongoing problems with tackling and accountability for opponents, the fitness/work rate issues, the ridiculous contracts, the general attitudinal malaise in the playing group, his failure to recognise that the rule changes had stymied his game plan and his failure to recognise the end of the era and begin the rebuild earlier - all of that is at least partially if not wholly on him. I would like to hear him accept these as real legitimate problems/mistakes and pledge to learn from it.

Club's admitted a lot of mistakes recently though. Bringing players back too early from injury and an outdated game plan spring to mind.

I reckon post-bye last year made the club realise where it was at, hence drafting a bunch of young blokes.

Simmo also said a number of times that drafting midfielders was a priority.

I think that we, as supporters, are so anxious for results that we tend to ignore messaging coming from the clubs as to where it's really at and want to throw blame on them when run poorly.

You boys aren’t gonna like this but Simpson had said to someone at the club he’s actually contacted till the end of 2025! Reported on SEN WA Drive 2 weeks ago.
