So if North move on Noble Simpson would have to come into play.

Win win all round.
Why? 2 years left on his contract, which is probably worth more than North can offer, as well as essentially given a free pass this year and backed in to rebuild for the next 2 years.

Would be a dumb career move, imo.

North offer a 5 year deal.

Simo's got two under contract but if next season is again dissappointing he could be moved on early.

Ex Kangaroos Captain, Premiership player and recently Premiership coach with "credits in the bank" at a new club.

AFL licenced clubs can sack after 6 months without paying out the full contract.

WCE/Freo can't do that.

Would you go back to an old employer who pays less money, is under-resourced, and has an uncertain future, just because you used to be a manager there?

You might be under-estimating the size of an AFL coach's ego that believes they could turn it around though.

Well, he's got the exact same challenge at a club he coached to 2 grand finals for one premiership, which is way better resourced, plays at a better stadium, in front of big crowds, pays more, etc..

He's also said he's up for the fight at WCE and will be there until he gets tapped on the shoulder, as happens to all coaches.

I absolutely cannot see him moving on, other than suggestions from posters who want him gone.

You’re forgetting that he takes all their least-favourite players with him in this fantasy scenario they’ve dreamt up.

Only if they are midfielders picked up with draft pick 5 er no, 7 - scratch that - 9 or above, don't eat pasta on Wednesdays and are born under a water star sign.

For the record I'm neither advocating for him to stay or go at this point, but I think people wrongly assume "Why would you want to coach North?" (Or other broke cellar dwellers). The chance to get a gig and shape and even the challenge to possibly resurrect the club to a power is very attractive for some and shouldn't be ignored.

I get what you’re saying - a key difference here (IMO) is Norf is an absolute basket case on so many levels.

IIRC Trevor Nisbett, in an interview after Brady Rawlings left to take up a Norfs role, said he (Nizzy ) had encouraged Brady to wait coz he still had stuff to learn about running a club.

Simpson, Gaff and Nelson to North. North give us Tarryn Thomas, pick 1 and they'll pay half of Gaff's contract as a sweetener. Clarko poached by us too.

I wish I could say the above statement was satirical but given the perennial whipping boys of those who frequent the DFTA thread I am not so sure.

No I get what you mean. Just can't see any reason for him to do so.

Ok lets do the math.

Simo at the end of the season has 2 seasonsleft under contract. 24 months. THATS Simo's maximum job security at the Eagles, 24 months. Thats it.

If the Eagles are terrible again Simo could go at the end of next season. You assume he will get paid out the final 12 months, no one knows if an early termination clause exists.

Now North knowing they have to pony up to land a good coach offers 5 years.

Thats 60 months.

Now do you think North would sack him after his first season due to the team performance? No they wouldnt, they know any new coach needs time.

So your aguement about job security being better at the Eagles is just false. The jungle drums are beating and credits in the bank are all but gone for Simo at the Eagles. If he wants to continue coaching long term then for both him and the club it may be beneficial for both parties agree to move on.

And the basket case that is North is the real issue for any coach to assess and think long and hard about.

Saying that though North need an experienced head coach that players and fans will respect instantly and follow. Noble isnt that. Simo is the obvious choice as Clarkson surely would want a team closer to a flag.

Wishful thinking.

What jungle drums are beating? Only the ones on this forum. How many coaches have WCE sacked?

You're also forgetting he's built a house here, kids in school, etc. It's not a decision that's simply up to him.

I wouldn't be looking at any coaching gig at North as 'secure'. Club's in an absolute mess and the pressure on a new coach would be insane, let alone a former club great.

Simmo wouldn't be short of offers at the end of his contract, should this one be the last.

Well Rawlings left to work on North's list management and now he is GM Football.

Id say he's learned plenty and still is.

So is Trevor. Top dogs never stop learning. If they do they lose.

Rawlings and Simo have a long relationship. And Simo is learning on the run too ATM.

The narrative of Simpson coaching North Melbourne at some time in the future started as soon as he commenced his coaching apprentership. So you being arrogant and waving off that posibility as "wishful thinking" shows you have a narrow mind or are just being argumentative. Possibly both. ;)

It isnt much of a stretch to see Simpson coaching North at some stage.

Firstly you can jam you "wishful thinking" remark where the sun doesnt shine.

Gee, this is some overly precious rubbish.

Give me the rationale behind North actually making a play for Simmo then.

Leave 'club legend' out of it.

North are on the bottom of the ladder, WCE are only 1 spot above them.

You think a club like North should go all out for the coach of the second worst side in the league?

When I think of stable and secure coaching environments, I think the North Melbourne Football Club.

To be fair they haven’t had a huge turnover in recent times even though they haven’t won a flag in over 20 years.

Noble, Shaw (some extenuating circumstances behind his short tenure), Scott, Laidley … that’s pretty much it since Pagan left isn’t it?
