Even being positive about his recovery, he's never done enough to have a serious claim to it being "his" spot

True but he has more skill in his little finger than 90% of our list do in total, fingers crossed he comes back and gets as close as he can to reaching his potential.

And what evidence is there to back this up?

I'm not saying that either of us knows what is going to happen to Lynch in 2022, but I personally don't see his value to our best 22 anymore (as a rebuilding club). He's a middling senior player that plays a position we are quite flush in, now (in contrast to Mackay, who you could argue we kept on for not just leadership reasons, but lack of wing depth). A contender, where he's one of the last picked in the 22 but still plays his role quite alright, would make a lot more sense for 10 Goal Tommy at this point in his career
You mean the fact that he was selected for every game this year, until the situation with his toe became completely untenable?

Frampton and Himmelberg are both contracted for 2022 so unless another team comes calling I think they're more than likely staying.
We probably have the flexibility in this year's salary cap, allowing us to delist 1 of them this year, and pay out their 2022 contract. I'm not saying it's likely - but the option is there.

Unfortunately a patella tendon is likely worse than an ACL for sporting recovery.
Yeah... i hate to say it.. but I agree with those here saying there could be a very good possibility we never get to see the potential height young Milera couldve reached.

Will end up only playing the 2 games in 2 years.. its a long time out of the game..

And a Patella is a shit injury to recover from.

Milera’s best asset was his speed and ability to turn on a dime. Will he still have that when he finally gets back?.

Theres some rather large question marks im afraid which is a pity.

Hopefully he can return and have a big impact.. but I wouldnt be putting my house on it.

Maybe the way we have to look at it is that we build our team assuming Milera is not going to ever come back the player we hoped he could be. Then if somehow he does come back strong and overcome injury, it will be a real bonus rather than desperately needed piece of the puzzle

Pretty much. I'd be looking at getting an outside midfielder with one of our 2nd round picks in this draft.

Based on what I imagine he is/wants to earn and his expected future output (i.e. genuine impact on matches not meaningless stat padding) I think Lynch should be exited this year for whatever we can get for him (down to and including nothing). His list spot and salary are valuable assets that we now need to invest elsewhere.

I know it doesn't work like this but I also don't feel like we owe him much. He shopped himself around last contract.

100% this, and would extend this to exiting Himmelberg (provided nothing changes between now and the end of the year) for anything too. If another club comes looking, take literally nothing for him because being able to reload on another prospect that we couldn't if EH retained his spot is the valuable return.

Yep.. The list spots are gonna be tight for us this year..

Gotta cast off the deadwood and those that arent performing..

Theres a shortage, according to the AFL media, of tall developed “plug and play” rucks at tge moment.. could help us get rid of EH or Frampton.

Wonder if we're even able to pay him out and delist him if there are no takers. The Gibbs sitch means probably not. I think we're probably unlikely to have any suitors for either to be honest. Even Peter Wright - who's everything EH is but a couple of inches taller and a higher rated junior, went for peanuts.

Might just have to reap the seeds we've sown with these contracts :(

Why don’t we try him as a full time ruck in SANFL. We could find out if he is worth keeping. Himmelberg has so much talent and gets his hands to so many balls but can’t hold them. Is it training or is it confidence? We should try everything we can, best case is he performs and we get a decent pick or he becomes a regular. Worse case is he is crap and we get rid of him for nothing

Their midfield is just loaded with talent. And then they added Treloar in the off season.
It almost makes you want to cry when you compare it to our midfield.
It's almost like your forwards and backs only need to be vaguely competent if your midfield dominates.

Maybe not even vaguely.

Interesting approach's by different Clubs ......Rioli's issues were much worse than Stengle ....but ours was a developing club versus a mature list

I stand by the cubs decision with Stengle, he must've been told to pull his head in and then proceeded to do what he liked. You can have all the talent in the world but if you don't have the desire to do whatever you have to (i.e keays) it doesn't matter. I have played with a few players who were absolute freaks but chose the gear instead..

So true !

Talent without hard work and discipline = ZERO

Wouldn’t mind us having a dip at Quinton Narkle. Nearly got cut last year thanks to the squeeze at Geelong and always been in and out. Looks to be putting some good footy together but has put contract talks on hold to the end of the season.

Similar knock to Lipinski in that the defensive game probably needs more work. But comes cheaper than Pat and IMO is a lot better inside, better burst, good user and would really improve our stoppage brigade.

Gibbs was because we couldn't fit his $600k salary into our 2020 cap so he had to remain on the list so we could pay him out of 2021 TPP. According to Roo, cap was maxed out 2020 and clears this year. Tex's back end deal is done as is Lynch's big contract. Hopefully we can clear a heap of Sloane's too.

No, it's a football first philosophy v a corporate philosophy. Nothing to do with the list profile at all. We've not changed in this area regardless of where our list has been at. Coming down hard on players is an area where we have been league leaders for a decade and more.
