Adelaide Pitch to good

Is it just me or is the Adelaide pitch to batter friendly?

Unless we are playing a team that is so bad out of form the game is a draw.

Does the pitch need some spice so wickets will fall a little more regulary in future?

With AFL moving to Adelaide oval will drop in pitches be introduced?

I've certainly defended the Adelaide pitch in the past (the results largely speak for themselves), but I personally haven't been a fan of it for the past 3 summers.

I'm sure I remember it misbehaving a lot more going into day 5 and or give a lot more seam movement/bounce day 1 (making you battle a lot more for the privileged of batting first/bowling last). Now it does bugger all fist up and seems to just get harder to score on as the game progresses.

Agree with that 100%. It is just too lifeless now. The fact it played so well day 4 and 5 really needs to addressed. Its a fine line between being a bad wicket day 5 and a wicket that is lifeless. But Adelaide is just too lifeless at the moment.

They said they might look at using drop in pitches, although I hope not (for traditions sake)

the adelaide oval will never us drop in pitches. just like the gabba. why would they start using drop in pitches just because a couple angry fans on a forum dont like the pitch. todays draw was the second draw since 1996.

This.

Some of us are jumping up and down too much.

It's possible they got this a little wrong. Mo wickets fell to spin on days 4 or 5 I believe so Benn's day 3 was an enigma.

The Adelaide pitch has not consistently been draw material so there is no need for a knee jerk change based on this result where two good batting line ups faced not the best bowling attacks.

Um, I'm 90% sure they will use drop in pitches, I know someone who works there

as one of the first posts said it has only been road like for the last 3-4 summers.

however i think a better team would of nearly dismissed us today.

only just over 1400 runs were scored.

there were no overs lost to bad light or weather.

day 1 - 336 runs
day 2 - 289
day 3 - 288
day 4 - 261
day 5 - 245

if gayle had of declared overnight and a result one way or the other was gained, we wouldn't be talking about any of this.

330 off 81 overs was never seriously on the cards for the aussies.

There are only 2 or 3 at a pinch good pitches in Australia. SCG and the GABBA are the best two by an absolute mile. The MCG is pretty good usually as well. None of those 3 produce absolute roads like delaide and Perth have been doing recently for test cricket. This was a very poor wicket, and was never going to be anything other than a draw. On the positive- 600 bucks better in my wallet!

Adelaide Oval pitch continues to be overrated.

However in saying that, lets remember that normally we get extremely hot weather for a few of the days yet the hottest it reached during the test was about 27, with 3 of the days 23 or below. The pitch didn't crack or break up due of the lack of genuine heat, a real reason behind the pitch still being so batter friendly, outside of the odd low bounce, on the 5th day.

To be fair the West Indies had the weakest test bowling line up in recent history and took 15 wickets, while Australia had a relatively piss weak one (compared to recent years) and still took 20. Draws happen ...

Fair to say the pitch is better than your spelling though!

I think the best thing for pitches and test cricket are for the grounds to go back to what they were once renowned for. I would love to see Perth fast and bouncy, the SCG spin, a greentop at the Gabba, the MCG be quite slow and low and Adelaide being good to bat on but also taking spin. It would be a fantastic test for players and ensure variety.

the best pitches in australia are clearly the gabba and the scg. a good pitch is one that has a bit in it for bot and where the bowler isn't of the game and where the batsman can score plenty of runs easily. i wouldn't call that pitch they played on in this test match a road. a pitch that is a road. is where there is non stop runs and as one previous post showed us. there was't 350 runs scored in the days play on every day

I like the MCG wicket, plenty in it for fast bowlers, spinners and the batsmen, the perfect wicket

The SCG is to variable these days, sometimes you get an absolute road and other times you get what was served up for the last test against South Africa

that will be a sad day. well it probably wont happen until after the next ashes after this one coming up and the world cup in 2015 as well

Good, might see some better pitches then. Pitches where you need 500 batting first are rubbish.

so we should move the Test back to Australia Day? Good idea! :D

let's not forget our bowling attack is not what it was, or theirs for that matter. i don't know... it's hard to call it too batter friendly once you compare it to some of the dead wickets in india.

i'm not against making juicier pitches, but i can't help thinking the terminal whingers will just change their tune again. i don't trust much of the cricketing public (if bigfooty is anything to go by) to demand more bowler friendly pitches and then not turn on our batsmen as if they murdered somebody. the cricketing public blow-ins who can't fathom or appreciate draws like the adelaide test don't strike me as the type to be sympathetic to lower and slower scoring.

adelaide oval is getting drop in pitches as part of the redevelopment

the usual cracks didn't open up on day 4 and 5 cos it wasn't hot enough. we should go back to the traditional australia day test.

anyway it was a good contest. we were rubbish, the windies were good but not quite good enough. hence there was no result. could've gone either way if we were more sporting in the chase or they were more ballsy with the declaration. as it was they waited to long and we shut the game down. one more wicket and they were into our tail. if they didn't miss a cuppla runouts they woulda had us.
