Agree. I've not seen any footage of him that would give hope that we have any chance of him being here longer than 2 years.
He always looks pained/disinterested being here.

If he stays it'll be a miricle.

I dunno, looks like a very reserved human to me.

That said, all about money, and opportunity. Show him cash, and be proactive with it, and he'll stay.

Is a goal a game good now?

I would be interested in seeing his efficiency in terms of scores produced vs times targeted. It seemed like he got a lot of targets last year for a guy who produced but a goal a game.

I'd say more average, then good.

That said, it's near the level required for a small to have a long career at this level. Just got to push 22 goals into 30 goals whilst giving some high-level defensive work. Especially with a side who refuses to get smaller in their forward line.

Does McAsey know how to smile or show any happy emotion? Ever since he was drafted, and even looking back at U18 photos of him playing, he shows very little emotion.

Cameron always had an attribute though, his speed. You might form the view he had potential.

Eddie obviously always had attributes- his skills. So did Cyril.

What attribute gives you thought that Murphy is a long term option?
His character and his determination to improve.

At the end of 2016 no one was interested in drafting him. As an 18 year old he moved to Adelaide and sold crows scarves whilst playing as a top up in the SANFL. He outperformed all of our draftees but was still the last player picked up in the 2017 Rookie Draft.

In 2018 predicted by virtually no one (except Bicks and moi :)) he lined up in the AFL in Round One and despite our reluctance to play KIDS played 11 games in his first year on our list. He performed better than all of our 2016 draftees.

In 2019 he retained his spot in the team, played 21 games, performed better than any of our 2016 draftees. He was promoted to our main list plus a two year contract extension.

What attributes does he have? Unlike many on our list he really, really wants to play AFL (and he has outperformed all of our 2016 draftees).

I’m a Lachie Murphy booster to the extent that I think he is possibly a league average small forward

Whereas every other candidate is and will be comfortably below league average

Because Hamish has never spent a main draft pick on a small forward, so we don’t have any quality small forwards, that is all.

Club has put a lot of faith in Murphy. Can't ever question his effort. But he just needs to get his hands on the ball more, like a lot more, like double his usual output.

As of his 2019 form, he just runs around like a headless chook, trying hard, so very, very hard, but every single possession, almost EVERY SINGLE POSSESSION (when he actually gets his hands on it), appears to be rushed or under pressure. Would be nice to see him get the ball cleanly, with time and space to dispose of it, regularly, for a change.

Just double his output?

Yes, that would be nice. As a pure small forward this would make him easily the best small forward in the history of the AFL. Just 21 disposals a game, 2 goals, one goal assist, 5 marks, 5 tackles.......all while walking on water.

Eddie Betts has averaged 12 disposals, 1.9 goals, 0.7 goal assists, 3 marks and 3 tackles per game across his career.

I suspect that whatever Murph produces (and I certainly don’t expect him to be the best small forward in the AFL) his critics will say ‘not enough”.

Well if he doubled his trial game form we’d be looking at 12 possessions..... bit of a difference in quality though

Sorry about the shadows but some absolute gold here re Godden, Smith and our midfield

It's actually unbelievable (though fully believable of course) that after hiring Godden as MIDFIELD coach at the end of 2018 it's only now that he's actually "taking over the midfield"

Murphy has started his career fine. He's surged past the likes of Knight who on the surface at least would appear to have more tools.

Will he keep improving?

We've had a lot of players over the journey develop to the stage that they're good enough to be in the team but fall short of being good enough to help us win games against good teams.

Some seem to settle into 'their role' and that's enough for them and for our coaches who to me seem not demanding enough.

It was refreshing to see O'Brien break through that 'role' ceiling last season and become a genuinely good player. Need more players to do the same.

Imagine the saltienss if we win and have the highest percentage, the season is ended after R1, but there is no flag but Pick 18.
Do we want to win or lose today?

The only way we can win the flag this year is if the AFL have a Gladiator season. The last team that can field 22 non-corona players wins the flag. With David Mackay on our list we only have to find another 21 players.

You know who else never used to smile? Mackay. 200 gamer, no go home factor, club loyalist, get heaps of games-er, never get injured player coming up!!

Does anyone know why the time of this game has been changed?
Television

With games now shorter 7 have realised their "half time news" is going to be earlier

Also allows more games to be future scheduled on the one day
