AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Melbourne Victory have only played 5 home games in 2015/16 season with a total of 127,778 and average of 25,556
You have counted the Geelong match in both Central Coast and Victorys. The Geelong match was a Central Coast home game
I doubt it, tickets to the WACA games are getting pricey. The cheapest seat is $35.
the c10 broadcast seems to me just an extension from the old fox sports day when they had the rights. the commentary is very similar as wellHave to say the BBL has been marketed very well.
The team names/logos are professionally done and aren't that cheesy. Using single, bold colours and combining it with black makes for a very good palette and it's distinct. And the Channel 10 broadcast is very high quality - good graphics, good commentators and well presented.
It's taken a while to get going but they've marketed it very well.
Sometimes humility goes a long way.Seems like smith handled asada way better than vlad did.
I think you'd find it was the AFLPA advocating for that, via CEO Paul Marsh, than the AFL itself.Sometimes humility goes a long way.
I just read that the AFL are looking at dumping WADA and ASADA and running their own drug code ala american baseball. Considering the AFL tribunal found nothing wrong with a year long doping program, I am not sure having an entity who places commercial interests above everything else (including players health / wellbeing) would run a good anti doping program.
It also is a bit tactless saying it now after you have been punished and found guilty...
My apologies you are indeed correct re AFLPA.I think you'd find it was the AFLPA advocating for that, via CEO Paul Marsh, than the AFL itself.

In any case, I disagree with that approach. Globally, the AFL is a very small fish in a big pond and it has to play by the rules. Notwithstadning a number of American sports have dumped the WADA code - I think the AFL can not afford to do so.
Exactly. If the AFL dump wada/asada they lose all government funding, there's no chance the AFL will do that
This isn't Vlad's doing it is Essedon's. He can't make people plead guilty.Seems like smith handled asada way better than vlad did.
Soccer types seem schizophrenic to me. They think the MSM have got it in for them and in the next breath say they will turn around and spend plenty on the A league.Yep, BBL cleaning up, next TV deal will be huge.
I can't believe some of the delusional garbage I read from many soccer fans. As others have said, BBL already had the runs on Fox (so to speak) before Ten became interested.
Soccer people expect some commercial FTA is going to pay big bucks for something that rates bugger all on both SBS and Fox.
They seem to have this idea that commercial FTA should stump up the money, then grow the game for them (rather than the reverse).
Exactly.
Plus all credibility with the public and sponsors.
I don't believe they wouldIf the AFL dump wada/asada they lose all government funding, there's no chance the AFL will do that
That's what the conditions were under the howard government, the AFL was told to sign up with WADA or loose all government funding. That would put current and future stadiums deals at risk, something the AFL would not be prepared to gamble with it's just way too much money to miss out on at the end of the day.I don't believe they would

They wouldnt say that as the stadiums are all multipurpose (cricket etc)With only the Perth stadium in the pipeline, I'm wondering what the impact would be if government (what level of govt?) said no more funding for stadiums?

They can stop funding in other areas, as well as sponsors pulling out and fans walking away.
I'm not exactly sure but I did hear on SEN that it would have significant impact on the current simonds stadiam (kardinia park) redevelopmentI accept these are all risks, I'm just curious as to what govt funding we are talking about. Is it a lot? Is there a figure in the AFL's annual report which people can point to?
Honestly dont know. I had heard the gov spends allot on grants but if it's true or nothing at all i dont know.I accept these are all risks, I'm just curious as to what govt funding we are talking about. Is it a lot? Is there a figure in the AFL's annual report which people can point to?
Perth Stadium is obviously the next massive cab off the rank, but then you have upgrades including:With only the Perth stadium in the pipeline, I'm wondering what the impact would be if government (what level of govt?) said no more funding for stadiums?
Perth Stadium is obviously the next massive cab off the rank, but then you have upgrades including:
- Upgrading Kardinia Park - Stage 4 underway but Stage 5 still to be funded.
- Upgrading Manuka Oval here in Canberra. The ACT Chief Minister is on record as saying he wants an AFL contribution. A Big Bash league team (as described in earlier posts on this thread - will help)
- Upgrading Metricon if/when the Suns start selling it out - you will note only 3 quarters of it is fully completed.
- Upgrade Skoda for exactly the same reason with the Giants.
- Upgrading SCG (having Giants boss Tony Shepherd chairing the SCG trust can only be a good thing)
- Upgrading Adelaide Oval with a complete re-build of the Northern stand to match the South (this will be the most contentious as the traditionalists will not want to give up the old scoreboard and the trees - but once the Crows and Port start turning away crowds each and every week, this will need to be looked at).
- Other small regular maintenance upgrades for Eithad and MCG, and possibly the Tassie venues... and the Gabba as well although the Lions would want to climb back up the ladder first.
So certainly opportunities for government funding over the next decade or two...
