Please accept my apologies 1873. I took the thread title at face value, and thought that "AFL v NRL" implied some kind of comparison. Now I know better, and will refrain from further posts in this thread.

And it does. The thread exists to discuss adminstrative matters of common interest between the two organisations (or soccer for that matter), but within the rules for bigfooty. Im sorry you and the NRL team here cant troll the AFL posters with Gold Coast drugs posts in this thread - but thats in line with Bigfooty Policy requiring drugs discussion to go on the Hot Topic Board at this time. Further the matter has its own dedicated thread in the Scandals board, and Id prefer this thread not be taken over by it.

Further discussion of this matter can be done by PM. Posts will be deleted from here on.

The NRL held a minutes silence before the game tonight in memory of Phil Walsh, devastating day's like today really put this code war nonsense into perspective.
Unfortunately, News.com.au turned it into an opportunity to have a go at rugby league for a minutes silence that happened weeks ago at origin 2, absolutely repulsive that such a tragedy is reduced to that on a night where Australia was united in it's grief & respect.

Good on them. It was a great gesture.

yeah I dont get that at all. Who tries to score points off something like this?

Perspective is lost on fools, the scenes at the MCG were very moving, they should be ashamed for disrespecting it with such nonsense.

Not sure it was wise having the Queensland premier up on stage for the rugby origin presentation - makes it look like a banana republic event.

Whenever the third game is in nsw the nsw premier is on stage for presentation as well.

I have some issues with some of those figures, the data doesnt support his sydney and metro comclusions for a start.
I had a look at just your sydney numbers for comparison & made a comment in ratings thread that they don't add up.

Add them up and correct for eels v mel 312k & it totals 15,602 for Sydney, not 14,807, which over 51 games, not 52, averages 306k, which is 7.74% higher than your 2014 avg of 284k, not 0%. You may have an Excel issue I think.

yeah Im looking at ALL the data for all comps i track now. Im not sure whats happened there. Cheers

I feel for you, plenty of bad experiences with excel over the years!

btw, also noticed a couple monday night games missing.

yeah ive fixed that now. I generally redo the data at about this time of the year anyway - at the end of the year a spreadsheet will be downloadble for anyone to do what they like with the data.

The NRL media is going mad about the new AFL rights deal.

Personally, I love that the NRL has 4 nights in a row of FTA coverage, but I like the AFL deal more overall.

How will the AFL reply to the permanent NRL thursday night fixture. i reckon we will see an increase - thursday night huge tv market with the right games.

Sunday night also a big tv market which they moved into but only on FOX and usually poor games slotted then. Dont expect AFL to move back to sunday night after last year

The AFL has never reacted to Origin being fixtured, I dont think they'll go out of their way to respond to this.

Doesn't really need to, either. The Thursday night AFL games will continue to sell out, or at least come close. The NRL games will draw below 10k. TV ratings will speak for themselves.

The crowd thing is interesting - AFL have trialled Thursday night games and they've drawn pretty decent crowds (although they have rigged it to an extent by putting on teams that will get good crowds regardless). I had a look at crowds to NRL Thursday night games and even by NRL standards, they're shit crowds. 2 Sydney teams getting less than 10k for instance.

Yet the NRL have jumped on Thursday night games as a regular thing in the future - so much so that they've guaranteed it for 5 years. It's funny that people shit on the AFL for 'not listening to the fans'. Imagine if they were NRL fans, they would have committed suicide by now.
