Re: Fixing up the AFL games

Could the passing be a little more like the FIFA games, where it goes pretty much straight to your teammate, instead of guessing how much power to use every single time.

You could have one button for passing and another for kicking long (and shooting) if say you have taken a mark and everyone is manned up, you could kick long to a contest instead.

Also, if you use the pass button to a contest, players skill/positioning could decide who takes the mark or the ball could be spoiled every time.

just a suggestion

That is the case in the new version.

Good idea.

A players marking and jumping abilities as well as their height and position are keys in winning a marking contest.

FH

What will the camera's be like - any chance of returning to a AFL PE style, considering on side, you can't see where you are kicking once you have taken a mark on the lastest edition!!!

I agree with B but with A your kidding right?

They dont have last names in a lot of the EA games, usually first names, but id settle for them calling me by my number if i can have myself in there. Plus my last name is in the game anyway lol.
Haha in Cricket 2004 I just chose the funniest name to call my player.. it was Mustard :p
My last name is in the game aswell :D Unfortunatly my first name isn't though lol

Cameras cut to the where the ball will land. There will be end-to-end, side etc...and the difference between far and close will be greater.

Re: Fixing up the AFL games

30 days to start of season...no actual release date as yet marked. Let's hope we hear one in the next two weeks!

So the game is coming along pretty nicely yeh?

A lot of areas have been addressed and are coming together. In general a lot of improvements and additions to gameplay/management/strategy that the gaming public will appreciate.

Create a player? Stats? Graphics? Attention to detail?

Create-a-Player? No, not at this stage. Still weighing up pros and cons.
Stats? More than you can poke a stick at. Especially ones showing the attributes/make up of players.
Graphics? Stadiums are already of a high standard. Player models and animation the key focus.
Attention to detail? Of high importance and always being looked at.

Easier passing around the ground?
Higher computer AI for draft week?

Easier in what way? Changing the direction of you kick despite the direction you are facing = yes Displaying the distance of your kick in metres so you can measure your kick on the bar = yes

Smarter AI in draft week? Ooh yeah. No more dodgy deals. Opposition sides have list strategies and they will stick to them.

so obviously the stats will be saved and you can view them between games, either team stats or leader boards?

If you can't there is not point. Any career stats?

Also whats to weigh up with the pros and cons of a create a player, all ic an see is pros, you make it so you have a limited number of skill points to allocate but you earn more as you play more seasons, which adds to replability.

Re: Fixing up the AFL games

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but one of the biggest things i think needs to be done is different playing styles.

In 2005 every team has the same style, take it down the middle, forget about the wings, chip around inside 50 until they're 20 metres from goal, then goal.

I think team styles should vary when you're playing against them. For example, you'll play against a team, and they'll constantly use the wing, chip it towards their forwards, look for a free option everywhere. Then you'll play another team, and they'll use the corridor, have shots from anywhere (not just 20m out) and be more risk taking. It'd also be nice if they changed their tactics if it isn't working for them throughout the game, surely it can't be hard to program in that when a team is 30+ points down they'll start taking some risks or hold onto the ball around the ground more to keep it from you, depending on how they're playing.

It's just boring when every team is the same, and you know they're gonna chip it around inside their 50. It would be nice to see them taking some set shots when they mark it from 30-40+ out. Also, ive noticed only the awesome players ever take a shot on run for other teams, and when they do, they could be 50 metres out, kicking into a 30km breeze, and just sail it into the stands (ablett jr for examble).
