I think this game is a great multiplayer game actually. Most of these niggles would be fixed in multiplayer such as the CPU never running with the ball or kicking short and the forwards dominating etc etc.

Exactly right.

Just lost a ripper of a multiplayer game by 2 pts.

I see ppl whinging again about names and drafts and ritirements...... :( .........Get over it pplz!

Great gameplay and thats what they (IR) said they were aiming for and anyone who thinks otherwise (ie. cant find ppl to kick to, cant mark or ruck or tackle etc.) is obviously losing and getting frustrated.

I agree the trades and drafts etc. arnt perfect but no-one said they would be. What we heard was they were aiming for gameplay with a few other minor improvements and we got just that.

Great game and I still cant stop playing.....

BTW.....Cpu uses kick-in tactics all the time and often changes thier other tactics too..... ......

I think IRGurus would benefit from having a look at games like NBA 2K6, NHL 2K6, Madden 2K6, Pro Evolution Soccer and the College games even titles like Football Manager 2006 in regards to trading and contracts and put everything they have in emulating the parts that make these games so great.

I'll give it a go mainly for its multiplayer purposes. Still kudos to IRGurus for giving us a better game at least (I'd rather play this then AFL 98 sorry). Hopefully 2007 will be the big one we've all been waiting for.

Also Fiery Hawk I'd like to suggest that you guys have beta-testers even people from these forums who love and appreciate the game and are the most fussy. They can really filter a lot of the games problems. It would be a very beneficial way of getting a game out that's for the fans.

Its not brilliant yet, but its taken a step (a major step) in the right direction.

To those who aren't happy with the game I apologise, but show me anywhere in the forum where my message was anything other than what Meh has just described.

Well I feel direction assist is needed as the comp knows straight after a kick which way to run to the marking contest whilst it takes a human player that extra second to figure out who they are and where to run to get to the marking contest which is more than enough time for the cpu to get the mark.

I think direction assist for kicking at goal should be a seperate option as I only need the "run to the mark contest" part of it.
Same here. Don't need the kick-at-goal direction assist. But for marking, too many times (in End Pan) you'll kick up the field to a guy leading towards you, but because you're holding Up on the analog stick, when it changes to the receiver, he turns and runs away before you realize that it's not what you wanted. Maybe I'll see if it's better with Auto-Switch Player OFF.

I'd prefer to have Direction Assist OFF, but you can stuff up your player's run to the contest by accidentally changing to the wrong player.

One suggestion is to do kind of a Madden style change player for when the ball's in the air.
What happens is, in Madden, you throw a pass, and if you don't touch any button, then for about the first second (or half a second), the receiver (with your indicator underneath him) will be controlled by the computer. As soon as you touch a direction he'll respond to you, and not the computer anymore.
This is difficult to do in AFL, because you're kicking on the run and therefore already pushing a direction which will probably carry over to the marking contest, whereas in Madden, you should be throwing from a stationary position and no direction can accidentally override the computer's control over the receiver.
Maybe with Marking Direction Assist OFF, after the kick, have the first second (or more or less) automatically controlled by the CPU, no matter what you press, so you can get your bearings. Then after that second, the player's in your control.
(God I write too much)

Really?? Someone in Japan who can never play the game due to not having a PS2 and cant do anything to help the game, sounds like he is on the payroll?

AFL 98 was a shocker IMO. I still think the Nintendo version was the best.

Yep I am.

Wow, you have a go at me for criticising, and you dont even play the game.

I dont see the point in arguing now.

Give it a bone stevie.

Thing is for me, Normal is a tad easy, Hard is waay too hard :p

Oh and also, just simmed another 2006 season (In my main season I'm up to Round 11 2006) and Shane Wakelin and Scott West just retired to both pursue careers in Hip Hop Music :p

In AFL 2007, maybe you can consider including a S.Wake 'n West Dawg rap CD? :p

I got it yesterday, enjoying it so far, i can ignore the minor problems (obviously some people here can't).

It's a step in the right direction, and probably the 2nd best AFL title ever...behind the NES Aussie Rules of course.

I think some people were yet again expecting something on par with FIFA and Madden Games. news flash, it's a small Aussie company developing the AFL series, not EA! if you can't enjoy 2006 thats your problem.

It's not much at the moment but hey, It's a start.

I'll be adding more in the next few days (banners, logos etc.) but for now, it's pretty basic. Maximum of 16mb of uploads but thats enough for a sh*t load of pics and we will just have to link to vids for now.

BTW, joining up takes no time, just a validation e-mail :thumbsu:

Well done illnino!

Get behind the site guys. I'm about to post some stuff there relating to AFL 2007 where you can really influence the outcome of decisions. I'll also be offering up solutions (for AFL 2007) to the issues raised with regards to how the AI bring the ball up the field and how to counteract it that will interest many of you I'm sure.

Cheers mate!

BTW. More stuff to add to the site yet....just need time...

Funny, maybe I'm not missing anything this year by it not being on PC, from all the negative posts I see here.
But I have no way of finding out for myself, as I cannot use a PS2 controller, hate the things and that is why I will not buy one when I have a perfectly good powerful Gaming PC ( also I disagree with games being on one platform only, it is not fair on everyone who wants to play the game, maybe IR Gurus should stop and think how long some have been buying this game ( AFL98) and keeping them in business)

And no, I am not trying to be a smart A

I have to say congrats, I haven't been able to put it down yet, compared to last year when I took it back after playing just a handful of matches.

THere's nice little touches too. Like this year's heritage jumpers being in.

Well done IR. Nice to see you get back on track! Looking foward to 2007 already!

I just skipped through a season to see what the off season was like and I have to say that it is an absolute disgrace. From the unrealistic, unwarranted and down right stupid trading, the unfunny and unwarranted excuses for retirements and the entire draft, including names makes it amateur hour.

Oh man that was a huge slap in my face. So much praise for the improved game play, development points and design but that off season is pitiful, especially the retirement excuses. I went from total joy to utter disbelief.

I would be very suprised, if as game developers they don't check out or know of games in the same genre.

Again congrats to the IR Gurus to putting the series back on track...

It appears people are unhappy with the off season side of things, FH i think the dev team should put a lot of work into the gameplay again but also focus more on the career mode side too...heres a list of what IMO must be in the career mode for 07.

-medals: Brownlow, Norm Smith, Anzac Day, Micheal Tuck, club B&F, Coleman.
-Contracts
-Salary cap
-Training schedule for the off season
-both the national draft and pre-season draft.- maybe include a scouters report for what players to look out for etc...
-realistic trades
-all Australian team
-player development
-season stats

Im sure there are a few ive missed, but i think all these should be in 07, + a few suprises...maybe player form, with a simulated reserves competition?

Yes, all that sounds great. can it really be that difficult to put all this stuff in? I hear of all these amateur games people play like newstar soccer, which i have played, and they are great fun.

Sainters, I hate the retirement reasons, it just reaks of poorness.
