Agree the cpu doesnt use the wings as much as they could, but I couldn't win a match without going wide...

Do you use direction assist?

You should, as it is almost impossible to beat the comp (on normal anyway) without it.
It automatically directs you toward every marking contest so all you have to do is hold sprint (L1) and time your mark/spoil...:thumbsu:

Yep, it was automatically on. Should I leave the other option off though? Playing with Freo against Brisbane. I think the FFs dominating isn't a problem anymore. Bradshaw has only kicked 2.

I actaully use the wings a lot, just depends on what tactics you use, i flood a lot, when im clearing out of defense my players tend to lead out to the wings...

Very fun game once you get use to the controls
2 issues with it though
Weighting kicks, you have to be spot on or it goes over the head or drops short. I think it should be easier to hit a target
and Goal Kicking, in normal play ie not a set shot the ball takes too long to get to the center and you get tackled before you can get a kick away

Very fun game though

Hey FH i have an idea for the tactics for 07. I was thinking keep all the areas like Center bounce, defensive 50 etc...but don't just simply have a attacking, balanced and defensive as the tactics, build on them.

Have three different defensive tactics, three different attacking tatcics, three different balanced tactics for the defense. I hope you get what i mean.

You do get better with practice. I thought the same thing a few days ago, but can now hit most targets.

Use Normal kick and just aim with the stick.......but make sure to allow for wind.

BTW, I finally figured out rucks/Throw-ins.

You need to hold any direction (left analog stick) before hitting X or O, then, without letting go of a direction, twist the stick in the direction you want to hit/tap it.

The last direction you are holding before the ball is hit, is the direction the ball will go (That's if you win the ruck contest in the first place)

For throw -ins use the camera angle it gives you just before the ball is hit.

Remember....make sure to hold the direction before pressing X/O, then you can adjust the direction after hitting the button and hold it until the ball is actually hit.

Gettin into the game now. Each team seems a bit different. I had a close NAB cup tussle with the dogs which i lost by 10 points about 70-60 but then came out and started flogging Carlton and i thought that maybe it was back on easy mode but they came back a bit but then it leveled out to a 40 point win.

The player developement is cool. I got 22 points which i used to bump up Moloney's kicking distance to 86 :)

Hey everyone,

Love my AFL footy games, the only one i've ever disliked with a passion was last years effort. I disliked it so much, i basically stopped playing it within 3 weeks of buying it.

I still remember the joy of getting to play the Aussie Rules Footy game on the Nintendo when it first came out. That is still my #1 favorite footy game (AFL '98, '99 came close - but the experience with the game on the nintendo will probably never be toppled).

I didn't mind AFL LIVE 2004, but really the pinnacle of the current generation of AFL games was AFL: Premiership Edition (i mostly play the pc version). But when it came to AFL: Premiership 2005, it was just so wrong on many levels, the speed of the game was too slow, the motions in the graphics were too jaggity - rendering it unplayable for me.

Thankfully AFL Premiership 2006 has been a far better experience for me so far. The graphics are cleaner, the gameplay is alright.... i'm much more happier with this game, compared to last years. I do think that this is the game that AFL Premiership 2005 should have been.

* My main gripe is still the speed of the game play, it feels like everything still moves at a snails pace. It's good in a way though as at least i can react to a situation happening (like if the ball was stripped from me and i had to tackle to get it back).

I'm not focusing on too many of the negatives as of yet - not fussed over the team management (especially the "retirements" as i've read on here and other places people arn't happy with the reasons given), commentary (thank god there was a volume control option of which i've just turned it down completely).

The only downer for me will probably be that i won't be able to play multiplayer as often as i'd like (not too many of my friends like playing videogames as much as i do) - so if/when i do get sick of playing on my own, i'll be disappointed slightly.

What a contrast in the teams though, playing on Normal & 2 minute qtrs, i was beaten by 88 points thanks to Richmond (kicked a few supergoals on me :( ), Beaten by Fremantle by 11 points, Beaten by Essendon by 35 points. Funny thing was i beat Collingwood by 39 points - playing as Hawthorn too by the way.

Sorry for crapping on, but the bottom line is i give the game a :thumbsu: an improvement over last years game, and should be fun to play for quite some time.

Because there is only one person here who might just have the slightest bit of say in the matter, Fiery Hawk, and he has stated numerous times that the game coming out on other platforms has nothing to do with him or the company he works for, IR Gurus and has also said a number of times that it is up to Sony and the AFL - Whom are both unlikely to ever see this thread - thus making your constant whinging, very annoying.

And same to you bud in always replying, Do you own this forum?
NO.

So I can post what I feel is valid.
And you can't say for sure who read these forums.
So pull your head in

Start SMASHING them in the corridor & things change, absolutely get on top.
I was surprised to see collingwood do nothing but go wide for the entire 2nd half bar about 2 or 3 quick kicks. Every mark or free kick they had they went wide and used the wings. Was cool.

I know it'll never happen but SPRINT & PLAY ON as the same button (L1) should change. Especially considering some buttons aren't used... L2 for play on would be better.
Few times I've held L1 to long, got the mark & been called to play on, then tackled for holding the ball :( Sucks in the back line. my bad...

My mate does that all the time. You should eventually get used to the controls and it won't be a worry. Just have to remember to release sprint before taking the mark.

How do you snap goals n stuff? I hate it how, when close to goal, i have to wait for the slow as goal thing to stop and often get tackled.
Start powering up the kick by holding X, but before you release it you change the direction of the Left Analog stick to the direction you want to snap. Now you don't have to wait for the goal-meter thingy, but you have to practice getting the direction correct. (Also, make sure you allow for the wind).

DONT use it if you don't have time.. Point the stick towards the goal and hold down X for a sec or 2 to increase the power metre.
To snap at goal, again, push the analogue stick in the direction of the goals and use X unless you're close enough that using square is sensible.
Took me a few games to get into the habit of not using square, running into the open goal and stopping, waiting.. not good. But X is your friend.

When you load a game, it says info like what you're up to and everything, and the last thing it says is TIME. Now I thought that'd be like, the total amount of time you've played the game (like it has in other games), but mine says 6:27:27 and I haven't played for that long (assuming days:hours:mins).
Not only that it went from 6:27:27 to 6:10:08 when i saved, then when I saved again later on, it went to 6:54:34.
What does it mean?

Any idea on how to stop opposition forwards. THey have been kiling me. tried flooding and tagging. still wont work.

On hard when you hold X in the direction you want to kick it still goes in the same direction as the goal metre.

It can get really frustrating cos if a defender is close you can't shoot you have to press triangle and hope to shrug the tackle.

I've missed quite a few goals on the run from within 15 metres.

Picked up a copy of the game today, haven't tried it yet. The way the footy and my Saturday night is panning out however, i might flick it on soonish.

Just a couple of questions before I buy it.....

Is the trading more realistic? What's the career mode like? What are players rated?

IT sounds like it has really improved, although that wasn't hard after last years insipid effort :p

I suggest you read over the past 4-5 pages as most of them will be answered there. However to the best of my knowledge (from what ppl have said)

1. Nope
2. Affected by 1, but the introduction of player development points has made it good.

Was about to say the same thing. Funnily enough...mine is always 6:##:## while the ## is 35 for eg, then the next (ratio i guess) is the exact same number eg.

6:11:11
6:45:45
6:36:36
6:21:21
6:15:15
...

just got the game and although it's a great improvement i still have a few questions

1. does triangle only work when someone is about to tackle you and he shrugs them...is this all it does?

2. Can you dummy?

3. Using high end pan camera view i can see the green arrows which i assume means these players have a substantial gap over opponents but i find it hard to determine where to kick it to best utilise them, any hints?
