Re: AFL 2006 Talk

Lets not make the game control too complicated. The way I see it is that AFL is too fast paced to be changing players around while in the middle of the game. where as cricket has a bit more downtime before each ball. Great feature for cricket games but it wouldn't have legs with and AFL title.

Yeah I'm gonna have to agree with you there mate. Soccer games are probably the closest to a slow game like Cricket and even then you'd struggle to find the downtime to perform such a task. CHances are you're still going to have to pause the game.

FH, I think this has been brought up before, but I couldn't track it down, my question is in Career mode are there any plans to have "Career Stats", such as how many games a player has played, how many goals/behinds he has scored over his career. Maybe throw in an "Injury Ratio" so you can see how many times they've been injured?
I enjoy looking through averages as well. So it could have all the stats and then an overview of the player at the top. Something like:
_______ has played _____ games and played his first game in round _____ of year______. Over his career _________ has kicked and average of ________ goals/behinds per game and _________ goals/behinds per season making his career average _______ goals/behinds.

There are definitely seasonal stats in 2007 but I'm not 100% sure of career stats being displayed. I guess it depends...are you wanting more an AFL players stats over his career or your career stats playing the game? I think the reason they have been left out so far is the size of the saved game file. I'm all for it though as it would make a great addition to the game.

Re: AFL 2006 Talk

No, If they want it to be a success then they have to improve the basics before adding the extras.
State of Origin would be nice but if the gameplay is as bad as their previous games I wont care if its in there or not.

Gameplay is still #1. The only reason I brought up SOO is to research whether such an addition is a) possible and b) popular with you guys. We well and truly understand that gameplay is and should always be the no.1 priority.

AFL Players stats definately :thumbsu:

Never mind the size of the saved file (I can buy a generic memory card for 10 bucks anyway)!

WE WANT STATS! :D

Yeah we want stats for individual players over their careers ;)

Re: AFL 2006 Talk

Yeah, the size of the saved game file can be a worry to people who don't have another mem card. That's why I suggested before splitting it up into smaller segments (i.e one saved game for profiles, one for edited players, one for each career mode....etc)
Luckily the size doesn't effect me either coz I have a way of transferring my game saves to my computer and back. 80GB free for Game Saves! (doubt I'm gonna need it though).

With the on-screen changes, a while back there was a suggestion of the "Assistant Coach" where a little bubble pops up now and then saying that "Person A is tired and can be interchanged for Person B". And you can press, say, Select and X to make the change change, or Select and Triangle to Reject.
That would be a good idea, and if the speed of the gameplay is an issue, make it so it can only happen at stoppages, like ball-ups, throw-in, after goals, behinds, frees....etc

AFL Player stats is what I was meaning, sorry I should have explained better.
The memory issue doesn't bother me, but it might bother other people. Maybe there could be an option after each game that could let you select if you want Players Career Stats to be saved or not.

That would allow people who can have larger saved files to be happy, and people who might not have enough file space can still purchase and enjoy the game too. :)

pretty pretty please.. we all love stats! :thumbsu:

Re: AFL 2006 Talk

I pushed for the EA style of saving whereby components are saved separately (e.g. a season mode save, settings etc) but I can't remember why it was rejected. Hmmmm....will try to hunt down why that was so and get back to you.

I agree though - there has to be a way to get as many stats into the game as possible as stats are very much a key component of the AFL way of life. Teams use them on a daily basis to gain an edge in competition so why can't you? :)

Yes that was an idea we came up with. Not sure where it stands now though. Will get back y'all on it.

Re: AFL 2006 Talk

Thanks FH, keep pumping it into em. In my view the only thing that was missing in AFL 2006 was players career stats. Nothing else bothered me and I still play the game each day and love it.
:thumbsu:

Most of us get attached to the players and teams that we are developing, and so the ability to look back through player stats would add a great personal touch to the game.

FH are you able to give us an update of where things are at right now. Such as what features or issues are on the "must do" list, and what other things are on the table. Basically what's being planned & discussed?

Thanks

I know you'll get more stats in 2007. With regards to anything else I need to check what I can and can't mention at the moment. Sufficed to say we have some really cool additions to the game this year and a lot of work has gone into the background stuff. But more on that when I can mention it...

Re: AFL 2006 Talk

can you find what you can say and what you cant and then get back to us then FH?
I know id really like to know whats happening :D excitement

One thing I can say...there will be a player editor where you can change numbers, socks up/down, names (First and Last), hair colours, hair styles, long/short sleeves, height, weight, preferred foot, boot types, skin colour etc. (Unfortunately you cannot alter skill levels because if we allowed you to do that then the development points would become irrelevant.)
Possible additions to the editor that we are working on include primary/secondary position options, captain/vice-captain settings and commentary name (what name will be used in commentary for your edited player).

Will get back to you with more when I am allowed to.... :)

Re: AFL 2006 Talk

Anyone know of a website that has the height/weight/d.o.b. and (hopefully) a brief description of every draftee from the NAB Draft, Rookie and Pre-Season Drafts? I know of footydraft.com but they haven't updated for this year.

Re: AFL 2006 Talk

Fiery, have you decided whether or not you will be able to have multiple users in season mode as was the case in AFL 2004 & PE. This was a great as you could play a season with mates. Very disappointed it went in 2005 & 2006.

It's on the agenda at the moment funnily enough. What's weighing against it is it's a whole new chunk of code that needs to go in and its pretty costly time-wise on the development side of things. Rest assured though that it's been designed and planned out and is subject to approval based on time only. Will let you know real soon if it's managed to get approved or not. It's battling a lot of proposed improvements to statistical feedback and the post season mode getting a complete overhaul.

Re: AFL 2006 Talk

I can announce that the Missions are no longer based on games from the previous season. They are based on classic Grand Finals from the past. The exception of course is Fremantle who have a mission based on a finals experience (shouldn't be too hard to narrow it down really!)
You'll be able to do the missions in any difficulty level and each new mission is unlocked upon completion of the previous mission. At the moment there is one mission per team but we're waiting so see if we can add more. We have some really cool additions planned for this mode too but we'll mention more on that later.

http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=draft

That has the info on the NAB draftees, click on each players name for a description on each player, as for trying to get as much info as possible on the players I would take a look at the phantom drafts from the draft and trading board and see what info is helpful on that.

That sounds cool,
to be honset I wouldn't mind if the mission mode was taken out all together to allow for other features.
I've only played the mission mode once and didn't feel any need to play it again. It was enjoyable but not something I purchased the game for.
I'm not sure what other folks opinions are on the mission mode? But if I had the chance to take it out and replace it with better gameplay features or even a "team training" mode to go with the career mode. I wouldn't think twice about dropping mission mode.

Thanks for the update FH :thumbsu:

Is there going to be a fan shop where you can buy stuff like more stadiums?

I think that if there are reasons for playing the missions ie: Unlock Videos and other features then the Missions would be a fantastic implement to the game, if there isnt unlockables from the missions then it becomes a bit pointless.

And if there are going to be unlockables I would look at the NBA 2K7 game for how to do them, in the NBA game it has an area called the crib which is a big room in which you can fill it with memrobelia and Jumpers Trophies and many more things, you can even unlock mini games like Darts and Air Hockey.

Re: AFL 2006 Talk

FH im really impressed with all youve revealed I just hope its as good as your saying it is :D
