The Ump has no feel for the game. Colossally dumb free. It wasn't like a deliberate ploy to delay the game (which should be penalised).

You could see the players frustration at the next bounce. Winds up the players and makes it a much harder game to officiate.
The biggest problem with the rules is that we have so much grey area that foolish people talk about 'feel for the game' and 'common sense'. That's what opens up the game to inconsistency and even greater frustration

2 things

1) It's not about any other issue than the fact there is a rule in place. The rule was broken. End of. You can say you don't like the rule and that is fine but you can't just pretend it doesn't exist particularly after the publicity it got a month ago.

2) not that it matters but yes I played until I was thirty. But playing or not doesn't mean certain people can't have an opinion. I don't love the rule but it also doesnt ruin footy. Just hand it back to the umpire.

We know that when there is a free, if we dont give it back to tje other player its 50, how is this much different?

But again, it isn't about whether it's a good rule or not, it's about players being flat out dumb.

Imagine thinking people with a disability, or women who didn't have a competition to go on with don't get to have an opinion becayse 'they haven't played'.

You are embarrassing yourself on so many levels.

Okay so you played, you should have some compassion for the players who now have 100 extra rules they need to follow compared to 10-15 years ago

We’re no longer enjoying watching a game of footy when all we’re talking about in here is the umps. Thats the problem right now.

They should be a secondary aspect of the game but they take centre stage way too often

No? This isn't complex. This isn't hard. Give the ball to the umpire. We have seen players adjust their tackling technique, their bumping technique, their standing on the mark and somehow remembering that you need to give the ball back to the umpire is that hard? Particularly in the wake of the controversy last month.

Seriously pointless unit Tom Campbell.
If anyone could explain it to me I'd be much obliged

Sorry the only foolish one here is the ump (and you since you took a shot at me).

What rule did he break? I'm sure there isn't a rule that says you have to give the ball straight back to the ump after a stoppage. It's not time wasting. The nearest I can see in the rules is "Failing to follow the instructions of an Umpire"

This was all covered incredibly publically 4 or 6 weeks ago from the Collingwood game. Perhaps even the most basic of Googling will give you the answers you seek.

And you have the audacity to call anyone foolish. Please.

Sorry I'm not familiar with the Collingwood case you refer to. All I saw was a dumb decision in this game.

Glad you aren't an umpire. There would be 300 free kicks a game.

He has a brain and remembers all the rules. There’s no reasoning with him.

How does a Ross Lyon, supposed king of the well-drilled role players, coached side not defend the goal line ? Did they all think Jack Steele can kick it 65 no worries ?
