Umpire has to reset the player to the behind the mark, otherwise the umpire should be calling play on. Fair enough play to the whistle, but this is a criticism of what should of happened if we had competent umpires.

That's irrelevant. He held onto him and that has been a 50 for donkeys years. But you know it's Ginnivan and beating up umpires is the favourite thing of everyone with 2 brain cells to do.
