Umps doing their best to square it up late too
Why? You do realise squaring up free kicks is an issue. Paying each free kick should have nothing to do with who had been previously awarded a free kick.

If that was the case, then there is an issue.

It would be highly unusual if the number of free paid to both teams were similar.

Bloody embarrassing from both of you. He's giving to the crowd as much as he is getting. He is old enough to play footy he is old enough to wear it. Crap like this is why younger people think they can do what they like and hide behind being young. You are part of the real problem, not the manufactured one you search so desperately to find.
Well that's clearly untrue - quite embarrassing of yourself to misrepresent the facts. That older gent loudly booing Reid (whom I was referring to in my comment) was in appalling taste. As for the man offering up the tissues, I was a fan of that.

If you really think standing up against that kind of cringeworthy behaviour is contributory to youth entitlement then you're plain and simple overreacting, I'm sorry.

Harley Reid is a grown (young) man and can do what he likes on the footy field. If he wants to be the Dustin Martin, Toby Greene, Jack Ginnivan type that crowds love to hate then that is on him and crowds will react accordingly.

That said, wasn't that long ago Ken Hinkley was public enemy number one for gesturing to Jack Ginnivan. A "much older man" according to Sam Mitchell being mean to a 22 year old that had been in the AFL for 4 years. So make up your mind whether young players are fair game or not.
All players over 18 are fair game for taunting. Ginnivan is a little sh*t who got what he deserved for mouthing off, and the wowsers going after Hinkley was silly.

The issue with looking at the free kick count is that a lot of those free kicks we got were actually there. You can't count 10-15 proper free kicks and then point to the free kick count as some kind of discrepancy.

I felt like we got the rub today, we definitely benefitted overall but the free kick count isn't the whole story. Eagles were also sloppy at times.

First quarter we defo got the rub and it impacts the game.

Second half you guys got it.

I look forward to the day ai and computers adjudicate the game and it’s perfect.

Happened to be in Brisbane this weekend and decided to catch my first ever game at the gabba. Can confirm the local crowd are passionate but have seriously no idea about the rules of the game. It’s quite hilarious listening to them.

Mate, it's football, there's nothing wrong with booing players, it's all part of the game, it always has been.

What’s perfect? Rarely can it be equal free kicks. One team will deserve more free kicks than the other.

I can’t think of a stadium I’ve been to around Australia where I haven’t had similar thoughts about the home crowd including Pies fans at the MCG. Fans get caught up in the atmosphere live and become incredibly biased and one eyed on every tiny decision. I’m guilty of it myself haha

The only issue is with your eyes if you watched that game and thought it was officiated fairly and consistently between the 2 sides

A lot of them, but not all? Every game is different and every game is umpired differently. Umpire review post game could say that 27-15 should've been 37-5 if correct decisions were made.

I think free kick counts are a simplistic stat to look at on their own. We were 10-20 last week and 15-27 this week and I didn't think we missed out on a lot of frees or Gold Coast were given a lot of cheap ones. I'm not surprised there were 12 more frees paid this week considering how each game was played. With Bailey Williams going off and us using a second gamer and a mid/HB in the ruck I wouldn't have been surprised if McInerney had started racking up frees.

What irks fans is perceived impact on the game. In a close game where 15-20m kicks have repeatedly been called "Not 15! Play on!" it is pretty maddening to see a kick that clearly wasn't 15m paid a mark 20m out from goal. Harley Reid does himself no favours carrying on but at one point he was tackled and gave a clear handball and Cripps played on thinking he had advantage. Free kick for holding the ball and 50. When McInerney bumped Reid late and the whistle blew it was pretty obvious that it could only be a WC free. Umpire had to be overruled to pay an obvious 50 which took 30 seconds to adjudicate and halt momentum. Etc.

what a horrific scheduling decision - brissy playing a midday game in peak humidity season against a WA side so a big fanbase can watch their team at 10am on a sunday

more big brain moves from the higher ups, literally doesn't suit anyone involved

Problem is they put both WA teams on the Sunday, they seem to try not to overlap them which is fair enough but we shouldve had the North/Dees time slot for sure.

Yeah, people around me were incredulous every time a free was paid against them for the most obvious of things and thought the umps had it in for them, despite having double the frees for a large part of the game when losing clearances and contested possession.

People who use the free kick count as a metric for a fairly adjudicated game are morons.

I’m talking about the game being adjudicated perfectly to the rules by an ai that can see all the camera angles at the same time all of the time.

Get rid of scragging behind the play, it sees all
