At least Smith tagged himself out of the game.

To be honest I can't remember Cameron dominating that much at Marvel. We don't play there a lot, but how many big bags has he kicked there?

Edit: his career goal average there seems consistent with his overall record, but for whatever reason no memorable Geelong performances there are popping into my mind.

I understand St Kilda's backline is not as well equipped as in some previous encounters though.

I've been pretty disconnected from AFL scene from mid 2024. Am keen to watch tonight to see what these Saints are about.

Looking at the St Kilda team I see
  • A couple of older good players - Wilkie, Marshall, Sinclair
  • A few older solid citizens - Macrae, Steele, Wood, Higgins
  • A couple of young super talents - NWM, Owens, Wilson
  • A couple of young solid citizens - Windhager, Caminiti

The rest are either fringe level AFL or completely unproven
Got to admit, looks pretty dire.

Hoping to see a few signs from others

King, Henry, Butler and Howard would also be handy ins.

It’s all about getting games into the likes of Philippou, Wilson, Keeler, Collard, Windhager, O’Connell, Garcia and Hall this year.

Smith, Mannagh, Kolo and Conway for Geelong. The first 3 are pretty important.

Missing players won't be the factor in the result.

You have better depth. Depth does make a difference.

We've got guys playing their 10th, 4th, 2nd, 1st games who wouldn't usually be playing.

When you have a stronger squad you can absorb more injuries.

That's my take anyway.

Okay on that point I sort of agree, but Smith going out is problematic because Danger was covering Mannagh's half forward score involvement machine role. Our midfield, without Smith and with Danger stuck forward, is a bit of an issue. This Saints midfield torched us last season and have added a ball magnet in Macrae.

Up forward and in defence Geelong should be fine though.

No doubt, midfield is where you lack some depth so I can see that.

Lucky for you ours is C grade at best. The hope is when Pou comes back and with the development of Wilson and Garcia we can elevate in that area.

Yeah King, Howard would make a big difference
Butler is one of the fringe AFL players
Henry probably falls into the 'solid younger players' domain. Not sure he'll ever be more than average AFL winger

Agree re: the young guys. Future to be determined by how many of these seem like they can be high level AFL players. ie. top 10 in the club level players. Do you have those kind of hopes for many of the above?

Hall was good on debut, with 16 touches and 2.2 last week. Does all the basics really well.

With Garcia, it's not a matter of if, but when. Who knows how good he'll be, but I'm very confident he'll reach at least GOP level. And because he has elite speed he could be more.

Collard and Keeler are two who could either flop or become stars. In terms of raw ability, they're probably top 5 at the club.
