Has a roadmap been posted yet?

Or do we need a roadmap to the roadmap first?
We got a list of features that should've been day 1 as coming in "the next week."

We can only guess.

Communication has definitely compromised blind trust, but it is odd to have the CEO on a forum like this unofficially revealing elements rather than a structured communication stream. It looks like Nacon just do things differently and Ross is trying to work around the limitations. There is also clearly an issue between AFL23 and Xbox, so maybe this limited what could be communicated. I reckon that unapproved sponsor or club elements have also been a likely hold up.

Big Ant could have equally dropped in elements like tactics in launch week, and this contributed to the crashed launch update with so little margin for error. It must have been a surprise though, or PS4/5 would have been delayed like Xbox otherwise.

Whatever the explanation, the game was unequivocally better the week before launch when Twistie did his gameplay reveal.
If Big Ant are to ever release another AFL game they really need to hire a community manager or marketing person. The communication needs to improve and they should be updating all of their socials with information.

I purchased the game against my better judgment even after all the noise about how bad it was. Because I'd like to continue having AFL games made. But the game is garbage and to be released like this is really inexcusable.

Playing PS5 post overnight patch. All we need is the player movement while changing direction, AI out marking/spoiling in contests as well as the tackling fixed and this will be by far the best AFL gameplay we’ve ever seen

Pre PS5 patch

Upcoming patch wants this week

  • Rucking centre bounces are OP, being able to tap to your winger on the bounce or taping to your front on midfielder on the run happens way too easy
  • Sprinting to a loose ball doesn’t seem to be working at all with the AI
  • Kicking the ball often with an opponent close by just ricochets off the AI which is pretty annoying
  • AI tackles you and sometimes the ball will spill right in front of you, the play just completely stops until the guy who has been tackled stands up and then someone comes in and stands over the ball and picks it up
  • Receiving a kick/handball flat footed and holding the analog in the opposite direction to run away, puts you into a glitch just running backwards
  • Set shot goal kicking is way to easy atm, on the run goals holding circle down you basically never miss too.
  • Skipping of the ball from a over powered hand ball or missed kick can sometimes bounce 30-50m away 👀

Other points that need to be addressed Marking, AI spoiling needs to comes in (even for me I think we have OP use of the spoil)

There not major fixes I’m guessing but once they are done the game will just flow better and that what an afl game should play like

And also game just crashed on first game pre patch ps5 3/4 on a boundary throw in 😂

Nice to know they were gonna take me 100 bucks and then try
Ease up mate. They have to work weekends. It's not like they could've avoided this by simply doing the job right in the first place.

After playing most recent PS patch on play now:

- AI making up too much ground to tackle
-AI offence is still janky, hand balling back to the 50m arc from a set shot opportunity 20m out
  • When you spoil your player is completely is taken completely out of the contest
  • Can’t tackle still (I tried releasing sprint button as mentioned by Ross, to no avail)
  • Players still don’t want to take off after a handball receive
  • NEED a bounce button
  • Ability to exit out of set shot by playing on would be nice
  • Playing straight on from what’s been called a mark without pressing anything after a mark
  • Players don’t overlap properly when getting a turn over, they try to but stop almost adjacent to the man on the mark.

  • No crashes for me
  • hit outs work fine
  • Handballs somewhat improved
  • AI defence much improved from day 1.

Things are trending in the right direction, hope the game delivers the hype promised with another week or two of patching.

Probably on par with EVO 2 IMO. Some things are better, some things are worse, some roughly equal.

(To the people that’ll whine, yes I know this should have been given on release)

It would be really handy if there was a larger timing bar for shots on goal while on the run. If you don’t time it well enough, you’re more likely to miss.

Seriously what good is elite spoiling on this game when you literally cannot tackle. I understand people say you tackle better when you don’t sprint but in what world do players not run and tackle?!

And don’t even get me started on the AI catching me on incorrect disposal from 5 metres away.

Game has a lot of potential but the amount of flaws in the gameplay at the moment & the fact you can only play 1 game mode without the game crashing is disappointing hopefully it’s fixed ASAP.

Seriously think this game should’ve been titled Unfinished 23 as a place holder name until the proper playable version of AFL 23 is ready to be patched in to the game.

Got a few spare minutes whilst the little man has a nap. Can anyone in short update on whether the game is playable now or still having the same issues?
I'm having a lot of fun. No longer any showstopper issues.

Playing on hard, either losing or winning by a few goals. Goal kicking is too easy and time consuming (AFL live 1 was better imo, trying to guess the natural arc) and the contested game is still very hard\chaotic. Otherwise really enjoying it.

also no one will give them a shootout. But I think the menu music is really good !

*Jake waterman is leading the Coleman in my league and has the worst character model.

I'm surprised at the tackling issues as I've been able to tackle on PS4 since the initial patch fix. My only issue with tackling is the well known teleporting/janky animated aspect of it.

I agree.. so much to like about this game but we shouldn’t have to let go of sprint to tackle. The player movement after receiving the ball needs work aswell receiving a handball and trying to hurst away feels like you’re getting pulled back in by your nan for a kiss, almost as if you’re a toddler in a sandpit! But I do still enjoy the good parts of the game, just heed these game breaking tweaks made.

Also, I think the ball rolls too fast towards the boundary after a kick or loose handball, and seems to move too fast at a goal kick situation. Doesn’t quite feel right.

I’m curious, was this game thoroughly tested before release?

As it stands, AFL Evolution 2 feels a lot better to play and has more variations of player motion and a fluid feel. However they had way more time

Again, I want Big Ant to do well, and any criticisms are to help improve the game.

Well there’s the hint that Microsoft knocked back approval for this game and with the state of it you can understand why people think that.

I’m just having a scroll through news and there’s a few media outlets headline this as a disaster launch for AFL23 , I’m not sure whether any of the previous games got that slammed but I guess they weren’t as hyped up or made as big a deal as this game was.

The fact there was next to nothing in the way of details or game play just adds fuel to the fire that this game was in a garbage state pre releasing.

It’s disappointing because the cricket games are solid , think I’ll just stick to cricket and maybe pick up afl before the start of next season if it’s all patched up and lists get updated etc . Every video I’ve watched does not give me confidence this game will be any good even with patches for a fair while.

I am truly amazed at what people are willing to label as 'minor issues' such as 'tackling literally doesn't work' 😂
I'm truly amazed that your sole purpose for being here is seemingly to sh*t on people for choosing to stick with this game.

For someone who doesn't even own the game, you sure seem to invest a lot of attention into it.

If a player runs onto the ball near the boundary, do they try to keep it in somehow or do they just gather the ball and keep running out of bounds? Same with near goals?

Shat me to tears in previous AFL games.
They grab it and just keep running and the player responsiveness is just too slow to turn them yourself.

Best bet is to try and kick it off the ground and keep it in.

Would like to see a change in the crowd over the next week for ps4. It may be for performance or a bug, but i played an entire season, with around 10 thousand people at every game. My grand final maybe had 15,000 at the G!

Liam Stocker isn't on the Saints list for some reason
