well wonderful just spanked tigers by over 10 goals and the game froze on a black screen after the game finished and it didn't save my progress so have to play that game all over again

I cbf with this anymore at this rate I'll be on my death bed before i can finish a season mode with the constant crashing and freezing

Just think about kissing the premiership cup when you finally get to the end!!!

Re: spoiling I definitely feel like every player is Lewis Young - ie spoils are dangerous as they usually go into the path of the AI to run on and kick a goal 😛

If the recovery time after a spoil was reduced a bit it would help I think though.

I have been watching this thread for quite a bit but have never spoken, so here are my thoughts on the new PS5 1.07 patch.

Pros:

  • Game definitely feels a lot more smooth than at launch.
  • Have not experienced a crash since 1.05
  • Handball chains are much better (but still need to be tweaked)
  • Most bugs that were at launch have been fixed to a reasonable extent
  • The L1 bounce was a must so I am glad that is in the game now.

Cons:

  • I really don’t know how people are getting smashed by the ai on medium difficulty. It has improved in the past few patches, but I am still beating them by 30+ points.
  • One of the reasons it is so easy to win is marking. All you have to do is click triangle and 99% of the time you will take the mark.
  • Players still have clunky movement. One of the glitches I constantly experience is when another player tries running into the protected zone when someone marks and the player gets soft locked until the kick is taken. Also it is too slow when my player takes a mark and turns back.
  • Online is still unplayable with all the glitches and bugs.

That is all I have to say, but overall the game has been patched well. Hope to see some more content in the coming days.

yeah the few seconds after a spoil really is costly.

I've also found players liek Curnow and Lynch are near on impossible to spoil they always seem to mark it....again I think that's a lack of skill on my behalf tho haha

Ehh
Players still feel sluggish like you never really have full control
Handballing needs to be the same as Evo 2. It’s that simple. Part of what made Evo 2 salvageable is that you could handball wherever and whenever you wanted
Shouldn’t be so hard to handball to someone on the run from a stoppage

Anyways, I just beat hardest by 10 goals
Surely not everyone is finding it that hard ?

Nope
Let go of sprint and hold triangle
Hold or press?

I cannot tackle at the centre bounce unless the AI stands still for whatever reason. It's most noticeable when they receive a tap and are running away from you, the tackle animation can start but you never stop them. Away they go, kick, mark, goal.

The only time i have a close match is when I'm winning the majority of the tap outs and finding a couple of targets in a row, keep things off basically. I get it! That's AFL. But the part of the game where it's a mad scramble around packs etc in my experience so far you're on a hiding to nothing. The players just don't respond quick enough.

I disagree. How many times in real AFL does spoiling = run onto the spoil. I think this has been an issue in previous AFL games making spoiling OP. Though maybe there is a better balance here.

I think more pertinently if the AI was improved then it wouldn't be an issue.

Attempted to play 2 games tonight on the latest patch (Steam, Windows 10) however both were interrupted by the game crashing, both in the second quarter. Haven't encountered a crash since the first day release and both seemed to occur as I was attempting to spoil.

Some thoughts on the gameplay:
  • Handballing has definitely improved, can fire off handballs with proper accuracy a lot more often. I'm not upset if sometimes they go astray as it happens in real games when the player is under pressure so that's fine by me.
  • Player swapping is terrible, played one quarter with it off and was beaten comprehensively, switched it to semi-assisted and was clawing back the deficit before the game crashed. The button sometimes just doesn't work and when it does it'll select the player you wanted maybe 1/10 times which is frustrating. I'm usually trying to stop one of my players forward of the ball from being drawn into a contest they wont impact so when it doesn't work they run to the ball carrier and the ball of course then goes straight to their opponent and away they go.
  • Tackling is improved but there are still some janky animations where you aren't quite sure what is happening.
  • Kicking with a player nearby is far less annoying as run downs are much rarer but often there'll be pressure on the kicker which sprays the ball which is good but that hit box is still too big for mine.
  • Tactics will be a huge help to the game I suspect.
  • Spoiling is satisfying when you execute it right. The controller vibration and seeing the ball fly over the boundary does feel rewarding somehow.
  • Still seeing the occasional player stuck in mud motion and occasional player feeling like they are on rails despite switching to the player to control.
I believe Ross mentioned earlier that the upcoming patch is aiming to fix some stability issues which is much needed. The game has come a long way in 6 days which is a credit to the Big Ant team. Still a ways to go but there's a lot of positive signs that suggest this game will be a lot of fun in the next month or so.

Centre bounces are a lot harder because generally if the AI wins ruck, they do the exact same handball or kick to the wing to the open player
But around the ground, hold triangle and don’t let go
As soon as you let go, they break the tackle
I basically hold sprint whilst trying to chase and then let go when I’m close enough to tackle

Actually just on this, I don’t think the stats screen is correct
I had 20-30 tackles at least last game and it said I had like 12
I think they only count tackles when you take the opposition to ground

I am losing every game against the 'easiest' setting. Compared to the pre patch (Friday) where I'd belt medium, I have no idea how this can be so hard 🤷‍♂️

BigAntStudios I may be dreaming but swapped from easiest to easy and flogged the opposition in my next game. May be worth checking out easiest to make sure it is just that.

Still getting destroyed on medium. Movement and tackling has improved. It's fun when you can string some plays together.

Spoiling the ball seems damn near impossible now though.

Manning up is a major concern. Opposition players are all on their own every single time by a good 10-15 meters..

Goods signs with the improvements, but still requires alot of work to get the balance right.

I'm convinced that the difficulties are flipped on PS5 at least. Play now Geel vs Rich on easiest I lost by 10 and 12 goals for two games 3.5 min quarters. 2 games on hardest same teams I won by 1 point in the first game and 7 goals in the second.

Any news on if they are gonna change the time clock from real time to counting down from 20 mins like previous games?

I think it's full random

I struggled against Blues after HT and got spanked and then the next game I demolished Tigers.....I know it's two different teams but just seems random
