While I don't think they're building things like tactics or speckies or whatever from scratch in the week and a half since launch, I don't think anything was ever integrated into a cohesive whole until launch night, when it all turned to s**t due to a lack of testing etc.

Game should have been delayed until the Xbox launch. Height of arrogance to release what they did, then expect paying customers to beta test it for free for weeks afterwards.
I mean the obvious solution is to release a simulated game of 7.5min quarters with the working day 1 version. Then everyone can see what this supposed day 1 bad patch broke and what it'll be like plus show after the march a quick run through of all the features in game.

Are tactics definitely on the cards?
I thought Ross said a while back that tactics work in the play, but you don’t have control over them.
Ross said the AI are already using tactics but players could not yet but it was coming but IIRC, it was meant to be coming by yesterday.

Wtf happened to this game with the latest patch? I cannot for the life of my take a defensive mark or spoil now.

Am playing on Medium and PS5. If I am doing something wrong, please let me know.

I thought the same thing until I realised the vibration timing is now incredibly important to when you try mark or spoil.

Not a drastic patch in terms of gameplay. How much longer do we expect these patches will run?

Any news on when I could potentially start a management (coach) career? Maybe when tactics are introduced?

First time playing in a couple days, I felt Saturday the game was in a decent spot. As of Monday’s patch can anyone else not win a marking contest anymore? It’s basically impossible to get the ball back unless the opposition kicks a goal and it goes back to the centre.

Would like to think one day in the academy the set team lineups function would actually save so you wouldn’t have to crazy edit a team lineup every time before a match.

Other dumb academy things I’ve noticed after the recent patches is the AFLW team lineups are broken and are trying to have 18 players on the field and if you try to access them the game will crash, also the profanity filter on create a club is totally broken with only some teams being able to be shared, over the previous week had SA and Allies state of origin teams I’d made not go through the filter but the Victoria and WA ones go through no problem.

If you release a game you surely have to expect that someone will review it around the same time, I mean most times I look at any reviews for NBA etc they seem to be out a week prior to the game releasing. I am not sure you can say its unfair to review the game now I mean what do you want them to do wait until the end of June to review it?

100% this is the crux of it for me. If it's not ready to be reviewed then it's not ready for release. They're saying that the product they sold/are selling is unfinished and not ready for retail. Instead of a mea culpa they are lashing out at the critics.

I haven't played since Saturday morning (far too busy) so not sure what the latest updates will bring, but Big Any have to know that not all their customers are going to be dedicated gamers, some of us might get to chuck it on for an hour here or there a couple of times a week if that. Each time we do there's still frustrating bugs, glitches and frankly a poorly developed game which makes it frustrating to play.

My thoughts after a couple of games:

Housekeeping: Steam, latest build (pre-tonights patch which isn't out at the time of typing)

  • Player select is my biggest gripe I think. It's a source of frustration that the ball will be kicked to a one on one contest, player select wont change automatically so you manually do it only for it then to swap to another player. Playing on manual player select is not a great option as it often wont select the player you want or even a player near the ball. This area needs work.
  • Often when you do select a player there seems to be a lag from AI losing control of them. I've switched players and timed the marking only for that player to then punch the ball.
  • Handballing is hugely improved but every now and then when I try an overlap handball it goes the opposite direction for some reason. 4/5 times it works fine but then the other 1/5 it'll either go 180 degrees in the wrong direction or just off in a random direction.
  • Spoiling seems a little underwhelming currently, you can plan ahead and pull one of your players forward of their opponent so they can run across and spoil the ball and it'll be perfect until then mis the ball and it is easily marked by the opposition. Timing seems to be irrelevant?
  • Still have no idea how to snap a ball in general play, will have a player standing 30 metres out facing 90 degrees from goal on their preferred foot and they'll still do some weird inside out checkside kick that lands in the pocket. Could be a me thing?
  • On a number of occasions in defence I've swapped to a player who is just stuck and can't be moved. The ball comes in and at the last second they try to attempt the spoil but they are so out of position they don't impact it at all. Incredibly frustrating when it's a close game!
There are plenty of good things about this game and at times you have some really slick plays that are satisfying when they come off but there are a number of issues that really break the immersion and frustrate the player.

agree with player select. On PS5 it seems unresponsive or a long lag before it chooses to switch players. And this is with manual switch chosen.

Player select barely works. it’s one of the most important things for an afl game and it doesn’t work properly.
This game is extremely frustrating to play, gonna get to a point where I just become totally disinterested.
Which sucks because I was really keen on this game and was telling others to buy it
