Playing on PS4 tbh I can see myself enjoying it if they took away the ease of running the ball the length of the field and also prevented the game from crashing over and over. I’m glad it’s not a complete tackle fest when the oppo has the ball

By the way, games playing no where near as bad as what's being discussed. Bugs and missing features yes... But blind Freddy can see we are going to end up with a classic.

On VOG-L09 using BigFooty.com mobile app
Considering its 3 weeks past the original release date shouldn't we already have a classic?

Just played a game with the patch on Steam. AI tackling is better. You can still run around them like witches hats on hard though. You really have to run into them to be tackled. Handballs seem slightly better but occasionally you'll be runnigh right at someone and handball it 90 degrees right and it'll travel 40m out of bounds. Small forwards out-mark tall defenders, even with awful positioning.
Just had a ball hit the post and bounce back into the field but paid a goal.
It's an improvement. But it's still unplayable in my opinion. If I wanted to play an AFL game right now, I'd fire up Evo 2 with my custom sliders.
Thanks to Steam, I think this is the first time I've refunded a game twice in 24 hours.
Will keep an eye on forums and youtubers who don't get the game for free to see what future updates are like.

So I picked it up upon hearing that a patch was on its way.

Certainly not as bad as I expected. Feels fun to play. Handballs aren't great, hard to tackle and nearly impossible to get tackled but I can tell that the core game is enjoyable.

Game has crashed twice already which is shithouse, obviously.

Kinda optimistic on where this will get to.... Eventually...

Lawyer up!

Can we say AFL23 is a scam rn without being liable for defamation?
You'd have to find an exact quote, presumably for the "quality or performance of the product" section. And then find a lawyer who's going to represent you for less than $99 so you can use your settlement winnings to pay them.

I’d say Big Ant should give their graphics and animation departments a raise and their gameplay department should be in real trouble 😂

I'm representing myself...

Meh, I'm sure it'll be a good time in a month or so. Wonder what state it was in when it was originally supposed to launch in April?
Go easy on the melts guys, remember devs are real humans and they haven't actually done anything to wrong you.
They've conned people out of $100 and the promise of an AFL video game.

Almost half the potential customer base don't get the product at all on the release date without this ever being communicated.

Modes that were described in the gameplay trailer and press events aren't available at launch.

The game has such significant bugs and flaws it can barely be called an AFL video game.

When people are putting down $100 on a product at launch in good faith, I think they have reason to feel slighted. It's carny stuff.

This, plus the fact that tackling doesn't work, really makes you question just how much (if any) play-testing / QA was done on this game.

They are two fundamental mechanics, that a majority of us playing the game today were able to notice instantly. How did BA not notice/address them?
Tackling does work post patch.

Everything was working. The game we got this morning was never the planned release version.

The planned release version had the stats, proper ai, etc that Is the pieces now being re patched in separately.

Doesn't make it any less annoying obviously.

But just more giving context to they didn't just push out the game this morning thinking everything was OK and no one would notice.

Finally got to suss this thing out properly for myself.

Firstly..Clearly PC must’ve been worse off than ps5 judging by many of the reported issues here.
• Cutting out the hyperbole and vitriol..
Only those that haven’t played ANY previous Big Ant games would be calling this unsalvageable. It’s gonna take a while but there’s definitely potential underneath the horror.

• I’m never one for calling a game “unplayable” or “completely broken”
But some of the bugs and busted mechanics make you almost have to fight and wrestle with the game to get it to do basically anything you want.

Pros:
• user spoiling - works great and feels great.
• Ability to link up play (when u can) feels better than any other game before. Unfortunately have to take much of it with a grain of salt considering the current AI deficiencies.
• Visual and sound design pretty good.

Cons:
• As others have mentioned tackling and change player inputs very inconsistent
• Handballing just seems like a dice roll at the moment. The power and direction just very random at times.
• loads of occasional small graphical glitches
• apparently very barebones in terms of features: stats, tactics etc..
(Will be very disappointed if this remains the case after they’ve sorted the overall mess out)
• AI. I’ve had the AI miss a fair few shots at goal and have been tackled frequently by the AI but it’s clear it’s not working as it should. Once you’re out in space they don’t get near you.
They don’t seem to spoil much (or maybe at all) Thst may also be because they’re just trying to mark everything at the moment.

It’s an Understatement to say currently, it ain’t good .
But there have been several moments and short passages of play, like an intercept mark in D50 and a sling shot counter attack that make you go: hmmm there is a hint of a decent game underneath it all.
