the main thing I’m confused is how different people seem to be playing the same game but having different outcomes.

Some people are experiencing multiple crashes while some are having none, some are getting smashed by the Ai in hardest or having close games while others are smashing the Ai by 80+ in the same difficulty

How are soo many people having vastly different experiences with the same game that’s updated with the same patch?
Everyone brings their own expectations to a game. You also have varying gaming skill levels among players and on the PC you have different PC specs which may also affect game play. Different people want different things or have different priorities. We also have a broad range of opinions about what not only what and AFL game should look like but what AFL as a sport should look like. Some of those discussions are more philosophical but may affect people's views on the game

Basically, all you have to do to succeed atm is to just have your player where the ball is going to be, where a kicked ball drops, no matter the contest, and press Y as soon as the controller vibrates, and you mark the ball 98% of the time. Basically I'm just booting the ball to every player forward of the ball I can see, and having an easy time, there's no pressure, this is on hardest difficulty. If they were to make the CPU more hard, they'd have to give the user more control to make it entertaining, tolerable and rewarding.
Maybe that's why I lose so many marking contests. I usually have vibration turned off.

The general flow of the game currently is win clearance > bomb forward > mark > goal > repeat.

There are 2 main issues that need to be fixed the would make the game much more enjoyable in my opinion.

1. Make spoiling easier (both players and AI). In real life it is much easier to spoil than it is to mark. If no player has an obvious positional advantage in a marking contest then 95% of the time the ball should spill from the contest. This would make players think twice about blindly bombing the ball inside 50 to get an easy mark.

2. Shot difficulty (on the run and set shots). It is still too easy. You get used to the timing of the kicking bar very quickly and can convert goals almost all the time. It’s good that the ai is now missing shots but it needs to be fixed so that players also have a similar conversion rate.

This has been the basic Meta since AFL 99

It’s very frustrating when it’s essentially the same game play as other games win a tap clearance kick mark on 50 and kick a goal. I mean I had a game last night where 4 goals were kicked in a row by the same player from the exact same play every time so with 4 goals on the board and about 10 possessions in total…

If you don’t get the clearance kick out it becomes a handball / missed tackle fest in the centre and when you do win the ball you either have one player out very wide on his own but outside of that your kicking to one on one contests all the time.

I’m assuming when tactics get patched in it’ll hopefully alleviate the one on ones/you’ll be able to counter the AI/playing online by using your own choice of tactics. Hopefully winning the ball and getting it out of clearances all the stuff that seems repetitive at the moment will have a bit more variation. In saying that though the way afl is changing a lot of teams do play that way. I follow the crows and it looks like our game plan when it works is smashing it down the guts keeping the ball moving, playing on a lots of handballs and small kicks.

The 3 sports games I sink the most time into are NBA , WWE and Cricket. NBA manages to give you a more truer experience of what the game actually is in real life and stats and sizes of players do matter.

WWE 2K had to lift after a doomed release in 20 and they have nailed it, graphically it’s stunning but the game play now whilst it’s always hard to replicate the true nature of how it plays out on TV it’s gone in the right direction as they nailed some very small things inside the ring that make up some of the big things in real life.

I’m the same mate, I generally play nba 2k23 and fifa. I dabbled in wwe 22 for the first wrestling game I’ve played since probably hear comes the pain and wwe smack down vs raw, can’t even remember now but wwe 22 was really good had heaps of fun playing it.

What I’m trying to get at is those games they have the base layer year after year and have so for years. They just change little bits and pieces, adjust gameplay, graphics etc. Big Ant now have the foundations laid for this game and it can only improve now year after year and hopefully follow a similar path. Same with their cricket games, I haven’t played them but everyone seems to think they get better and better each year I don’t see why AFL will be any different.

Yeah same. I’m starting to think the difficulties are actually all just one and its a random experience every time. Also with this many patches in, some have played through it and gotten better and others are casually playing. I’m not committing to Management mode until I know all the issues are gone. I win games against hardest AI by 6 goals then lose on easy by 8 lol it just doesn’t add up to me.
There's definitely a system of difficulty that is scaled and not random. For now, most of the difficulty elements are on a linear scale, where the easiest is .2 of the maximum, next is .4 of the maximum and so on.

I hope they spend just 1 whole day fixing the issues for online, the crashing, the freezing, soccer mode where you can’t pick the ball up, the tackling the sprint the auto kick that randomly happens, the wind doesn’t even work , online is super fun but all the bugs makes it unplayable, I’ve played 1 full game online since the launch and every other game something happens.

Discussions are ongoing, there are many parties with competing interests and we need to balance them all - including consumers.

I would not say that our relationship with XBox is any different to that of most developers ATM.

Ross, this is the last information that you provided on Xbox (10 days ago). Can you please give us an update. Are discussions still happening? Has communication broken down? Are the physical copies still being held up? Is this still a priority? Anything, please.

Forgive my ignorance, are you saying the difficulties aren’t random? It seems a lot of people have similar experiences, first game on hardest is ****ing hard which is awesome. 2nd game on hardest is extremely easier

I second this, first game after the latest patch was against Geelong, really tight, scores were tied midway through the third quarter when the game suddenly crashed. Rebooted and replayed the game, things were far easier, AI were constantly turning the ball over and making really strange decisions with the ball.

I'd expect that sort of inconsistency watching real life Carlton but not on a video game.

It is public knowledge that there are Simultaneous Shipping restrictions in place. There is nothing I can say publicly about the ongoing discussions due to NDA's.

Definitely, 100% not random.

As there were a number of claims on here about varying difficulty, I had guys look at that specific code on Friday to be sure.

All difficulty levels will have increases in difficulty over the coming days.

The End-To-End cam definitely still needs some work. Swings way too fast in a possession change which makes it impossible to react with a handball or tackle. And when in possession, it needs to have the right joystick capable of swinging the camera field-of-view, so you can actually see if a switch is on or not.

What's worse is when you actually hit a tackle, drag the player to the ground then the tackle animation finishes so your player let's go and the guy with the ball who got tackled just gets up and runs off while the AI players just stand around doing nothing.
Yep, that happens way too often. I’m not sure if it’s just online (I don’t play much else) but the AI randomly playing on for you after a mark is also extremely frustrating.

Personally, can't stand that view.

I'll ask about a camera swing, might be that you use the radar if possible?

We're aware of an exploit online that allows tackles to be broken, we will nerf it.

Gotta learn to adapt. It's over short and fast. Wouldn't want a slow swing that took time.

The only other idea I can think of is a end-to-end locked cam with your goals always at the top of screen, similar to FIFA

Thanks for that, would make end-to-end work so well! Just a bit too tricky to decide if a player has a decent lead and separation on their opponent via looking at the radar, would be much easier being able to actually visually see them leading into open space to kick to on the fat side.

Hey Ross just looking at my build it two days behind should I delete the game and start again ps5 I have tried clicking check update but nothing BigAntStudios
