They have mentioned it. On the initial Monday patch with tactics it mentioned PS4 getting tactics but not PS5. The Tuesday patch was supposed to include tactics on PS5 but that patch was pulled & there have been no patches on PS4 or PS5 since.

That’s why PS4 has tactics because it got the Monday patch.
Thanks guys. I read this whole damn thread everyday and somehow missed that! Hoping I can play against PS4 players again soon.

Lol, original context of the question when I asked, game ability/difficulty was very relevant to AFL 23 and feedback being posted.

I completely agree we don't need more shitposting, was just responding to others criticisms of my original question which I have every right to do. Pretty sure I've been one of the main people posting constructive feedback here, fwiw. Along with Xtreme 😂

Played another good game just now as Melbourne vs Richmond. Won the hitouts at a 2-1 ratio as Gawn which feels about right, but as nank vs gawn I'm unable to win any around the ground. Something I guess difficulty sliders will help with.

The gameplay now is really smooth and tactics are really enjoyable. Played a zone as Melbourne which worked great, Richmond able to work to the centre easy enough though occasionally would give me an intercept opportunity but more often than not they'd make it there but I'd end up with an outnumber when they went forward.

However the other day when playing zone wasn't working and had to switch to man on man. Love the necessity for different plans at different times and also love how much the players feel different.

Stuck in mud bug reallllly needs fixing as does the general picking up the ball, tackling and contested ball passing mechanics. This part of the game largely feels like chance and rarely feel like you have much control. There seems to be some sort of issue when you change player too. If im sprinting with brayshaw at the ball carrier then change player, the AI seems to stop for a second then start running again almost like a lag, which is often detrimental.

Overall though a lot of fun and feels like footy. Just need depth and bug fixes to keep me coming back.

You can also feel the difference, deep in the fourth quarter when fatigue has set in for most players. Played a game where most were out on their feet and I had to desperately try to pick out players that could still perform and not be overrun by the opposition.

Was there a patch? Did they fix the stuttering/stuck in the mud?

I thought it was fixed on Saturday, but it still happens (albeit not every single time you get the ball after a mark or handball) when you think it won't happen, you'll at least get stuck in a "stutter" instead of a full blown period of a few seconds where the AI can then run on to you and stuff up what you were going to do.

I know its only early days but for those who are on steam or PS4 what are your preferred tactics? What seems to work and what doesnt?

Probably poor wording on my part. I mean more when the gameplay plays as it should it has a great flow to it. Running handball receives, intercept marks, speckies, closing down spoils, etc. The bugs still get in the way of constant smoothness, but once they are gone can see a really really good game starting to form. Nothing like sitting a kick on your forward's head and having the defenders come close it down, or floating across the front and taking the intercept mark etc. That stuff all feels really well balanced and 'real' compared to a few weeks ago.

BigAntStudios this is probably a trivial request but is there any way in future from separating jumpers to short colours? I imagine this may be a art/coding issue but would be nice if we can change both separately down the line. Thanks!
JNT BA can you please follow up on the feasibility of this?

Just played and damn my main criticism is the players just cannot do what you want.
They need a 10m turning radius, handballs are still absolutely terrible, the stuttering upon loose ball recieves and handballs is horrible. Quit halfway through while 5 goals up because it is so frustrating trying to make a simple play and your players are just so ridiculously stupid.

I don't know what's happened, it was not like this 2 weeks ago when I said the gameplay was actually massively improved. Hope the team fix it ASAP

That's the thing, how can it go backward ? It was amazing on June 1 part way through June 2. Then it's like the wheels fell off the bus (again).

Not being specific to anyone in particular, but IMO the issue here is that how people play does have a reflection on their level of expertise and whether their reports can be relied upon. We are a team of 100+ at Big Ant but it's still important for us to identify real issues and not go on wild goose chases, and to focus on what the majority are going to enjoy.

Unbelievable!!!!

So someone's complaint of buggy gameplay has less weight if they aren't as good at the game as other more elite players? Bugs are bugs and this game is riddled with them, you don't need to be pro-gamer to know that. I am sure there are varying levels of players in here who all share very similar issues with the game in it's current state.

It's just another cheap dig!

I'd say most of us want to move the ball on 'quickly' whether it's running the ball through the corridor or along the wing, and linking handballs or kick/mark routines (long bombs or chip aways) - and have come across glitches that stuff things up (such as the brief stutter or the complete freeze just after claiming possession of the ball). If I could be bothered I'd splice multiple clips together that highlight when it happens. It probably will be patched out again at some point (it was virtually eliminated but returned with vengeance in another patch almost 2 weeks ago and hasn't been dealt with as yet).

This was my point.

There should be absolutely no reason bug and glitch reports aren't just taken on their merit regardless of how much "expertise" one does or does not have in the game because buggy gameplay is exactly that, whether you're playing on easy and winning by 100pts or losing on the hardest difficulty.

I'm now inclined to think some tickets submitted to BA from particualr people are being flagged and not even being looked at after that comment.

To Ross's point, obviously bugs are bugs and they need fixing, I think everyone is aware of that.

But feedback like "marking is too hard", "goal kicking is too hard" etc is sooo subjective. I'm winning contested marks every game I play and I kicked 10.2 last game I played. I think goal kicking is too easy still personally, obviously some people are struggling with the mechanic and that's where customisable difficulty can be a win.

Im curious about how you find the game so easy Xtreme . Is that the case on hardest as well? I only play hardest now so unless hard becomes much easier, would be keen to know if you've worked out some exploitable pattern or how you're dominating games. Is it marking, handballing etc?

No offence but I’ve seen your posts about the game and I don’t think you’re very good at it can you explain what difficulty you’re playing on? As from your posts I would find it hard to see how you could hit the scoreboard 😜

Which wouldn't surprise me and would be a bad look considering they want to compete with the NBA 2K's and Fifa's of the world!

I'm very much looking forward to the AFL '23 evolution of custom difficulties and 'sliders'. Get deeper into the bones of the game and tweak it so it plays better. Evo 2 was fairly decent as is, but the sliders helped tune the game more to other people's liking. And the same could be done in AFL '23 (if allowed and depending how deep the customisation goes).

In general (across multiple difficulties including Hard and Hardest) I've kept strong teams like Melbourne, Geelong, Brisbane scoreless in multiple games, home grounds and weather/wind/day/night situations...... yet I've been belted by Gold Coast. Carlton and North Melbourne :p. All while using Hawthorn who aren't the strongest team in the game.

I've sunk in almost 70 hours of game time, you just pick up on things, like the reaction time needed to move the ball along, timing marks correctly etc.
I just move the ball forward with the most appropriate action at the time, does it always pay off ? No!!!!! I've taken risks even when bringing the ball back into play after a behind, by trying to run it down the ground, only to lose the ball at the defensive 50 and then get a goal scored against me.

The game is pretty easy when you play a boring kick mark style of play
The inaccuracy of handballs makes it harder to play a fast paced game. Not impossible, but just more likely to get hurt on the turnover. Which ironically is realistic but I hate that it’s because handballing is broken

My expectation is it will be tomorrow - however I can't guarantee it.
When the patch drops, will that be the time we find out plans with management mode?

Unfortunately I just can't get into playing the game at the moment. Just don't get the satisfaction repeating play now's. Eagerly waiting for management mode.

See this exactly what I think must be happening because I see people get on here complain hardest is too hard but then hardest is apparently still to easy for some. Those who find hardest easy, must have worked out a way to play like as you say the boring kick mark which might have become a cheat code for those people.

You said handballing is realistic yet broken. What if, what you think is broken, is actually by design to make the game seem more realistic? 🤷🏻 obviously I have no idea lol
