They fit into category a) coach or b) player at time of scan.

The point is they are not releasing the legends advertised. Suggesting bigant jumped the gun with promotion before getting them in to scan them.
Ha, well.... yeah Cox is a coach NOW. He wasn't in the game as a coach back then.
Geary maybe was scanned as a player back then I suppose. Not sure.

Either way, there's currently quite a lot of non-2023/non-2024 players in there (whether you consider them a legend or not). Some are from the advertised list, some not.

I don't believe it's about not having the listed ones scanned, but rather the overall plan to not release them all in one big hit. I can't say for sure though, but they are trickling through.... and I doubt it's because the likes of Peter Bosustow and Graham Wright were first in the door to be scanned.

The fact this game is reduced to $5 today on a sale tells you enough you need to know about the game.

Didn't realise Nintendo had so drastically changed their pricing model!

Jokes aside, I think this is because they see the $$$ in getting customers the game and getting them to spend money on Pro Team. Could be wrong but it would make sense, basically a Free to Play, Pay to Win type model now. Which is sad as someone who had hopes for this game evolving into something with good management mode, would assume 90% of effort goes into Pro Team from now on.

I am pretty sure it was just EB clearing stock and nothing to do with Big Ant. Nobody else was slinging it for 5 bucks.

Yeah, sounds like EB just wanted to get rid of the rest of the stock of the game they had.

Also maybe also gives us a sign that Big Ant are getting ready to move on from AFL 23 and might be potentially getting ready to release a new AFL game considering that I don't think EB would be selling a new copy of a game for $5 if it was still in print and was still able to be ordered directly from the publisher.

That’s actually a really good point, I’ve suspected that big ant could be quietly working on AFL25 in the background for a while now, with the exception of the field kicking mechanic, they haven’t really made any big new additions or changes to gameplay or game modes since pro team was added (it’s mostly been new cards added to pro team, which I’m guessing doesn’t take a huge amount of time to work on).

You’d also think that a bit of new stock of AFL23 would actually be coming in with the new season approaching if they planned to stick with this game for another year.

Feel like we’d have had some sort of announcement by now if there was gonna be an AFL25. Or at least been hinted at
The season is 6 weeks away from starting so the only way I see them releasing a new game is if they’re planning a mid season release which I guess isn’t out of the realms of possibility but surely after everything that’s happened, they’d want to capitalise on hype of round 1.
I feel like we’re gonna have to wait until next year for a new game unfortunately but hopefully I’m proven wrong

From memory, AFL23 was only unveiled during the pre-season games or just after and we only knew about it beforehand because they teased it when getting the licence back.
It’d be very big ant to keep the focus on AFL23 and pro team until closer to round 1 and then announce the new game around then in time for a gather round release (as was the original plan for 23)

Bloody annoying when you go do a custom season with updated teams and the only option is the 18 rounds. Surely they could’ve literally just replicated the 24 round season in the custom tournament. What’s the point of updating the teams and stats to not even have the full compliment 🤷🏻‍♂️

What I find more annoying in custom season is the fixturing, you’ll have 18 games split into 6 in a row at home, 6 in a row away and then the last 6 at home again.

When you play the actual AFL in management mode, the fixture is kind of ok in that it gets a lot of the marquee games in there.

Pulled the trigger on Tiebreak after seeing decent reviews. Have to say this game is very good, at least the core tennis gameplay is as good as I've played.

Think I read some comments about career mode lacking depth, so far so good for me and I much prefer career modes that are heavily skewed towards playing matches. Does give me confidence that Big Ant remain the company that released AFL Live deep down, and with AFL 23 gameplay now in a decent space, if they can get Management Mode half decent for the next release I could spend a lot of time on this game.

The only thing stopping me booting it up is the feeling of pointlessness playing a game that has no management depth, while I want to focus on playing matches, I also want to feel like my trading strategy and drafting matters, and if I'm rebuilding a team I want to struggle to win 5 games and feel good when I do, etc. Tiebreak does that well, I lost my first 2 Challenger matches in straight sets, before winning my next 2 in very close matches. I was the higher rated player each match, and definitely felt the difference as my opponents got slightly better.

This is what AFL 25/26 needs. When teams are all the same, the game just has no depth. Different opponent styles, noticeable differences in ability and difficulty, impactful management strategies are just critical. Hopefully they implement this going forward, really hurts me that AFL is the worst of all their titles (excluding Rugby which seems to have followed the AFL23 release playbook, albeit with more honesty this time around)

I don't think this is too much to ask for a player career mode in the next game, I do however doubt that we'll get a player career mode at all even if there is a new game this season or next.

Hope the Rugby 25 roadmap they've promised is better than the shit sandwich this games roadmap was.
They 'accidentally' launched the wrong version yet subs and the bench still doesn't work, the team management screen was permanently cooked, the gameplay was dog shit, team management mode was the worst it's ever been even though their CEO got online, talked shit about the last developers and said it would be the best career mode ever. I'll never give Bigant another cent.

They rushed out a shit game so they could rush out their ultimate team reskin and rort money from the kids using their parents cards to buy packs and gamble in a broken game.

Has a quick look at what's going on with Rugby 25 after finding out it was released last week.

Oh jeez... Despite the early access beta, It kinda looks like it's gone down worse than the AFL 23 launch did. In fact, It's currently got a worse rating on Steam than AFL 23 (31% positive with it being 21% positive in recent reviews compared to AFL 23's 46% positive)

Honestly, it's making me think that a studio their size shouldn't be trying to do that many games that promise fully featured games that rival EA and 2K in both gameplay and modes but that's kind of been said multiple times on this thread the past couple of years and it seems to keep happening.

From the looks of it, it seems the main complaints relate to constant crashes and the gameplay not representing the sport very well with a lot of people saying the gameplay feels like they've tried to convert Rugby League Live 4 into a Union game.

Well, That's the last of the 2023 games they announced in a flurry now out the door. God knows what's next besides just working on fixing up Rugby 25 and maybe some updates for the other games. I really hope they take their time with things from here on out because I don't know if they can really survive another run like this. It's hard to tell how much money they made off of these games and they've kinda torpedoed any goodwill or good reputation they had.

It's very much going to make things a hard sell from here on out for the most part I would believe.

But with Rugby 25 out the door now, we should be closer to finding out the future of Big Ant and the AFL and the future slate of what they plan to do. How things are approached will be very interesting indeed...

It’s interesting cause AFL23 is actually really fun to play, there’s a lot of depth I’d like to see added to the gameplay and improvements made but it actually plays quite nicely now.

Tiebreak is also looking pretty good now and that’s saying something cause I’d completely dismissed it after seeing the early access gameplay and with 2K getting back into tennis games.

Rugby 25 looks decent if a little basic and clunky at times, I reckon most of the criticism from that game is the typical cycle of fans expecting EA/2K quality from a smaller studio.

On a somewhat unrelated note, there’s a Gaelic footy game coming out later this year (not from big ant) so it’ll be interesting to see how that compares to AFL23.

The final list lodgements are this Friday so hopefully that means we’re close to an announcement of either a 2025 season update or a new game.
Still plenty of legends that were promised that we haven’t seen so I feel like a season update is more likely than a new game

Really want the AI to be further improved if there is a season update
Running patterns of teammates sometimes make zero sense

I'd definitely be expecting a Cricket 26 to be released in November or December in line with the Ashes.
