WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

It's their Playface technology, in their other games as well. Not sure if they'll allow it for the licensed players though.

PLAYFACE™ – Take a photo of yourself, and put your face directly onto a character model, then drop yourself directly into your game via full cross-platform capability between PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

How's the quality of this in Cricket 22? Big companies like 2K still struggle with this stuff but BigAnt are usually top notch with customisation.

hey everyone first time poster here. I came across information stating that up to 4 players can participate in an online game. Can we assume that this means we will have the ability to play with a friend on the same team who is on their own console against another 2 people, similar to the co-op online capabilities in FIFA?

2 console maximum, up to four players.

Player differentiation is a necessity. Saying petracca is 94 and Kayne Turner is 73 is meaningless if they feel the same

I’m really hoping there is a pro and arcade set shot mode for the game, similar to the options available in cricket 19 and 22. For the afl version, left joystick to aim the player and push forward to start run up. Right joystick flick back to start ball drop and power and flick forward to kick and like in cricket22 the ball will go left or right depending on how you flick forward on the right joystick. This mechanic could replicate someone like a Tom Hawkins whose kick goes left to right (in the game you could aim your player to the left goalpost knowing that you will flick the right joystick forward and a bit to the right - thus a kick that goes left to right)

The things I would do for that 3d model template for the uniforms… 🤤🤤🤤
We use a high-def geological scanner to scan the uniforms while worn by manikins to get the "wrinkles".

Oh nice. I didn't get Cricket 22 so didn't know they'd ventured into that. Will be very interesting.

Are we going to see some more stuff on the management mode side of the game before release? Most excited for that mode

From the limited amount of gameplay videos available it’s hard to know all the features, although I do hope more gameplay videos in the future will shed some light on the full gameplay mechanics.

In saying that I do hope for the following gameplay mechanics:

A modifier for a Handball or kick which creates a leading kick or handball which triggers a one two pass scenario with a AI teammate. this could be useful for kicking inside 50 into space for a full forward to come to it.

For handball it could be having a player in the centre of the oval, with a ai teammate behind and the player handballs which triggers the ai player to run forward to receive it just like a through ball in fifa, and the hand balling player would also run forward to receive a handball back - that would improve attacking gameplay and having a trigger to do it would allow more control for the player and not have to rely on the AI to do it, although I do hope the game AI does it too, it’s just that having more control of how teammates move would improve the gameplay (Last thing I want is to get frustrated when players don’t make a run if the AI doesn’t automatically trigger players to make runs into space to receive the ball).

Additionally there should be a way to make the ai make a run towards you (leading run for full forwards) or trigger a player to run pass you, Instead of relying and waiting on the AI to do it there should be a way for the player to trigger it manually. While you don’t have to necessarily kick or handball to them it can be used to make space as defenders might go and pick up the player causing space to open up

Pro mode for set shot goal kicking need to use both joysticks for goal kicking
Kicking for goal on the run, from the gameplay seems like it auto aims for goal and there is only a timing for power where I would hope there is also an aiming mechanism too similar to fielding in cricket 22 and 19 and if you don’t get the timing right it might go left or right for a point or out of bounds on the full.

Some footage not filmed on a phone, with zero thumping music or people talking sh** in the background would be nice. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate it, but boy if it isn't silly that it's the only gameplay footage we have available.
