WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

100% Percent! 😂 Many hours of torture according to her!
I think at the start mine was just happy it didn't start with "E. A. Sports. It's in the game." But Last Ones Standing in particular did away with that goodwill pretty quick.

They should definitely run a go fund me campaign to pay for any legal costs for having Andrew Anthony do "big ant sport, it's in the game"

Man there’s not many songs that really invoke much memory/emotion in me, but holy grail definitely does. Who’s gonna get to work putting together “The official unnofficial BigFooty AFL 23 sounds of September soundtrack” Spotify playlist
I actually made a small playlist for this game months ago. Tried to mix it up

Haven't seen any talk about this card from the Robbo video, chances it's AFL Fantasy related? Teamcoach has introduced cards that are related to the highest AFL Fantasy scores on each team and they have a game-related license rather than a collectible-related license (Select has exclusivity on that) so it wouldn't shock me. The colourway seems to match up as well other than the shades but the screen could be washing it out a little bit.

It's beyond a joke we don't have actual captured footage of someone who has experience with the game playing it. Because, right now, the gameplay is made to look awful and we just have to take BigAnt's word that it is better than that. Why not prove it?
Seriously people - calm ya farm...! Whilst I get the excitement and anticipation, there is still 17 days left to the launch day, so whether you see footage today, next week or the week after its not going to bring the release date forward. Ross always has a plan and he knows exactly what he can and cant do...it will come...and with plenty of time before release - it always does. Chill.

My take on those other cards we saw glimpses of are the variations for the Star Team mode.

Usually in those types of games players will often have a Bronze, Silver, Gold card. Or a system similar to that.

Bronze version of buddy might be 83 over all ranked, silver might be 88 and the gold 96 for example.

Fitzroy as a team would be pretty awesome as a legends thing.

Maybe not our last ever team, can't say it was the greatest 🤐
But would love a Team of the century type, with Quinlan, Roos, Murray, Bunton etc.

It’s really just a merry-go round between this and player ratings at this point. He’d only have look a few pages back to get the discussion on Ross stating what it is about the game available for that promo launch last week. If they are saying it’s basically a Frankenstein build then it should be taken as that, and not beat a dead horse on a discussion that has already been addressed

Agreed. Impatience is really starting to shine through now. 17 days isnt that long of a wait and 110% chance between now and then there’ll be more articles, media and interviews released to the public so whats the use in complaining about what we ‘deserve’ to have been given by now?

That's very possible. My assumption is more along the FIFA system of every player having a base card, and whether that's gold, silver or bronze comes down to the overall rating. I'm inclined to believe my assumption because we saw the blue and purple card so my guess is that's where the higher overall versions of players comes from based on real world promotions or whatever promotion is going on.

If JNT or BA could answer this would be great to know; will the ‘star team’ mode solely be online player vs player or will there be the ability to make a team and play against various created or AI teams similar to the season modes and the squad battles in UT in FIFA?

yeah that was what I was trying to get at as well, but did it poorly ha ha.

I agree and tend to think that is what It could be.

Do we know if there are going to be servers both players connect to for the Star Team online mode?

Just asking because in the past, one player is the host and the other connects and that makes for a terrible online experience

as an extension of this I'd also love to know if the new online piece that Ross mentioned in the interview with Twistie will also update the normal online mode to be 2 v 2 with all remote players?

That online piece is a big one for me, being 2 v 2 from 2 consoles only feels fairly limited given how key co-op online play is for games these days.

Hopefully whatever upgrade they have in store for online modes down the track adjusts this, as there will be plenty who would utilise online if 2 v 2 could be all remote players.

Would like to see every team represented at the very least.

Not sure who Gold Coast (Ablett?) or GWS would have though.
Couple of those OG :goldcoast: boys Jarred Brennan, imagine playing with him clunking it with one hand off the ground and taking a run !!

Campbell Brown running through blokes 💪

Harley Bennell at his best :fire:

Maybe this week :)

GWS could be Chad Cornes, Luke Power or Steve Johnson

Yep Gold Coast would have to be Ablett

PS I just can’t see any of these representing the new clubs as legends. They are legends for their original club.
