WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

Not sure if this has been answered anywhere but can we control an academy created team (tasmania for example) in a management career?

I was searching for the post earlier about how he said career mode was planned to be in the game at the initial launch date but is now not in the game at this delayed date... despite the game supposedly already being finished by then. On the contrary, the gameplay we have seen has been janky as all hell and that's just the build we're seeing... looks at notes 4 days from release let alone over a month ago.

Genuine question, have you kept up with video games at all over the last few years? Almost every game is like this now, released unfinished and fixed up later.
Geez just don’t buy it then lmao

Looking forward to giving Tony Notte an AFL lifeline as a veteran player in the mid-season Draft 💪💪

Nice, would get it on PC as I'm pretty sure it only supports controller so should be familiar and Steam lists it as cross platform if you wanted to play online.

Additionally, if it's a buggy port you can refund it through Steam.

And agreed, I think it's somewhere around 2% of all PC gamers have an ultrawide display so not gonna lose many fans just knocking it on the head.
yea think ill cancel and get on pc then hopefully its a good port,

yea i actually brought an ultrawide a few years ago but ended up only using it as a 2nd monitor but was great for editing etc but no games supported it

Sorry to bother you Ross as I know everyone else is harassing the heck out of you! Just had a question, just wanting to see if state league teams will be available to play in management mode? Look forward to playing the game! Go Dees! ❤💙
(Apart from supporting the dees- up the pies) Finally a normal, respectful way of asking a simple realistic question- well done

I'm hoping we can see some career mode stuff before launch.

So far we've seen the menus but haven't seen any of the features in action. I'd love to know a number of these things.
  • How does trading look and work?
  • What does the draft look like and the stats of those draftees?
  • What do contract negotiations look like? Can you re-sign your players in the middle of a season? How do you go about signing free agents?
  • How does player progression work? Is it by spending points through "training" like previous AFL games.
  • Can you be sacked?
There's also a few smaller things I'm curious about.
  • What does the All-Australian team and other awards look like?
  • Do you replace the current teams coach or do you become them?
  • Can you easily change players numbers?

I hope we get to see some career mode in action before the release of the game but if not these are all the things I'll be checking out when I get the game on Thursday.

Finally got a chance to watch twisties management mode video and there’s still nothing there to really confirm state leagues.

I feel it’ll be another thing that was intended but got cut, but then why not just come out and say that like Ross did with player career ?

Apart from Twistie saying state players have told him they had to sign something for the game.

I hope it’s not cut otherwise player career and state leagues are two huge things to let go for the sake of pro team. Id rather have the deeper career mode than pro team.

Bit disappointed if so, especially when they were saying it will be the most in depth Management Mode for a afl game (or something along those lines for the April reveal show).

None the less, I'll still play the hell out of it cos it's a afl game

Noticed that besides being mentioned in original trailers etc. it's not back of the box to have the state leagues. Fingers crossed we do have them. I'm not a pro-team / ultimate team type person at all (Close mate lost his life savings/wife & 2 daughters due to Ultimate Team addiction so I just don't like it out of principle) so management mode was always going to be my 1 and only. Fingers crossed they just hadn't included state league clubs and careers yet in management mode and it will all be there day 1. Genuinely don't know how to read the radio silence about it - there could be content waiting approval, could be one of the leagues still needs to tick it off, could be that it was cut and we just won't find out until day 1. Only a few more days to go I suppose!

Yeah I have to admit, for myself one of the must have features in an AFL career mode is having reserves teams integrated. Not having that would completely remove so much depth from weekly team selection.

Still can get plenty of longevity out of it though if the gameplay is fun and trading/drafting is realistic.

Hey Ross just an idea, we should have an option like the NBA games where you start the management career in the previous off season, and can re-write what happened.

Just a suggestion, I can promise you that there's absolutely zero ulterior motive for wanting this feature included.....

Dean did say he knows of VFL and SANFL players signing agreements to be in game. But it's a lot different having a player present to be drafted than having an actual simultaneously run league. If Evo 2 could do it then no reason why this game can't do it. I have high hopes for this but you think it wouldn't be that hard to cop a straight yes or no.
