WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

I was comparing by gameplay. But sure, they're all greedy if you want that assessment, although EA was voted the most hated company in The US. So, they may be the worst out of the bunch.
My bad, just saw the last comment about greedy EA. I agree NBA 2K is a superior sports game to any of the EA sports games.

It no longer exists, it's online multiplayer only. It dosen't have gameplay.
As in eFootball, PES being it's old traditional name. It doesn't have gameplay? What do you mean a video game that has gameplay does not have gameplay? And no, it's not multiplayer only, you can play against the AI.

That’s what I ment but these numpties have a few kangaroos missing in the paddock and think gambling has something to do with it, open ya eyes bosos it’s a fun mode and doesn’t involve spending money at all unless your like the hundreds of streamers who have nothing better to do

Ease up big fella, you said you wanted "Something like Ultimate Team from FIFA", and when most rational people hear "Something like Ultimate Team from FIFA" they assume you mean ... Something like Ultimate Team from FIFA.

Which is why people reacted the way they did.

I think it's because 1) it's a shitty mechanic that countries are trying to legislate out of existence 2) the moral argument against gambling in a game that will be rated G and finally 3) The improvements haven't really happened. Modes like Career have been left to rot while all the focus has been on wringing more money out of suckers.

All of this, fundamentally, is gambling. Ultimate Team is gambling. The only thing that makes it not gambling in the eyes of regulators is that you can't "cash out" - sell the things you've won in-game for real money. I'd argue that makes it worse. Ultimate Team is like a casino where you have a chance to win chips that can only be spent on in-casino prizes, that you can only use to earn more chips, and that you cannot take outside of the casino. Then, next year, all the prizes you won so far get taken away, and you have to pay another entry fee to start from scratch. This is a casino where you can only lose. Where the argument in defence is that the act of gambling itself, detached from monetary gain, is fun. That would be fair, it's just like playing a game of cards - but not when you can pay for a chance to pull an ace. It's not better than cashing out. The sum of all this is a game mode explicitly designed to trigger, if not addiction, something very close to it. A pseudo-addiction. A life-consuming, obsessive compulsion. FIFA Ultimate Team is in its purest essence an Operant Conditioning Chamber, only designed for football fans, instead of rats.

Where did I mention spending money and “gambling” most bright people think create your own team and versus other people online but no

I think Koinami are getting off lightly too who have pretty much copied EA’s formula.
I was doing gameplay comparison's, since Konami makes the better Soccer games, same with 2K with their basketball games. I labeled EA as greedy since they were ranked the most hated US company for that very reason. The others also being greedy, but that's beside point.

Hoping for more heritage guernseys also 🤞🏽 & the one game option I really liked from Evo 2 was the dynamic weather so hopefully that makes the cut also.

It would also be cool to add realistic stats for games both simulated and played. For example the most isn’t 15 or something it’s 30+. And higher rated players should be able to easily get kore touches then the lower rated players.

I think that's the players fault, I get it for the simulated ones but you can't just make up stats for real games.

I've gotten pretty realistic stats from playing 20 min quarters but the score ends up being 200-200 for example.

Yeh true but I don’t have the time to do 20 min quarters (1:30 hours) for one game.

Even if the game doesn’t come packaged with heritage jumpers, you can bet your life that there’ll be a big community of people who will make the jumpers. Even for the last AFL games people were doing it, and you could only get that to work if you played PC and modded the files so not even natively. There are enough of us who are jumper nerds so the sponsorships and such will all be accurate too.
As for dynamic weather in evo 2, I loved that feature and the puddles looked brilliant, but that stuff is pretty easy to do in Unreal Engine, no idea if BA use that but I’m sure they’ll carry that over.
Surely we have a boot creator (like NBA 2k23) so we can create Nike, adidas, so on…
Would be a good trade off for the bat creator in Cricket given there’s no need for that in footy…

I wonder if we will see the Indigenous guernseys or special round kits licensed in the game? I'd love to see them added because wearing the same 3 designs on evo gets quite boring very fast

Even if they’re not the academy accommodates for people to design them and upload them. You’ll get your wish

Can anyone tell me if it is coming out on PS4. Just because I remember there was a rumour about it just being on the next gen consoles.

Will people on a PS4 or PS5 be able to download jerseys, stadiums, players, teams, etc off of people who use Xbox and vide versa?

You can do that on AFL Evo 2? Just use a custom team. Now something that should be added to the game is something like Franchise in NBA, online league with management.
