AFL Cairns -- Season 2014

For those who think they know what transpired. The decision not to go to Port was left to the players and players only. It was a fear for their own personal safety. CAFL even stated they had implemented precautions. Well precautions don't guarantee safety. So if the boys are denied a season of football because they feared for their safety as a group, then so be it. I have a devasted son at home, so all get off your bandwagons unless you actually know what you are talking about.

Gees, I hope the club executive had more involvement than just leaving it to the players? I for one ask this, how was the whole side/s affected by this so called threat? Does anyone have any details on this threat whether it was directed personally or at the club?

AFL Cairns, headed by Gary Young, is probably the worst run league in the country. Gary Young is the worst AFL Cairns President and should be stood down as he is a sheep and has no sense of direction of where he wants this league to go. He is more then happy to step back and let this mess unfold. This doesn't just affect Manunda Hawks. This affects the whole league; there will be no bye as there will even teams, it will be a shorter year and no team gets the chance to play on Cazalys until finals. AFL Cairns is an ego-based business and they should be ashamed of what they are doing to this great game.

Bark as much as you want, AFL Cairns wont do a back flip on this one. TO BIG AN EGO.
A little birdie has mentioned the club presidents had a meeting today re the zero consultation had with them re the decision as it has an enormous effect on the comp & their clubs. The little birdie also mentioned a meeting between the presidents & the board is imminent. Interesting times.

I must have spoken to the same little bird, heard all pres (bar centrals who was not present) agreed penalty too harsh and lack of consultation as a major problem. Unfortunately I think this will overshadow a genuine 3 horse race for the flag.
My point about the committee having to accept blame, is that, as a committee, they would have to know that to forfeit both games is gonna have some serious consequences. If some players/parents said they don't want to go so be it, but surely it would have been a better option to let whoever wanted to play, play, and if you forfeit the 2s due to lack of numbers and get a belting with an understrength senior side, that is surely a better result than what they are going through now.

What needs to come out

Where is the investigation at in regards to the threat / s
were they substantiated ?
or
idle ,

and of what nature and
to whom by whom ??

Or is the investigation done and dusted ?

Really all Presidents of AFL Cairns playing clubs , Juniors, Seniors & Women's League should have been informed as they are all effected in some way before releasing to the media.

/ if they weren't very bad PR performance

This will properly put our league back on the front pages for the wrong reason AGAIN

10 itch for news, I thought it was a 7 year itch

Cafl have gone over the top they should of act the Monday after the game they there to play !

Hawks should of lost points for 2014 then and been a big fined!

They have f....k it no only for hawks bit all clubs ! As no bye rounds so no rest for any clubs!!

I think cafl maybe up to something with a neafl team for 2015 as we'll know Cafl have try to kick out hawks from this ground before!

"Trend" please learn how to spell and put together sentences before posting on this forum. You must be a brain dead ******.

Does anyone the names of the afl cairns committee that voted Manunda out. It's time these faceless people were named so we all know who they are.
It's on public record I believe that the board consists of Gary Young, Reg Lillywhite, Nick Trompf, Steve Olly & Tom Jones.

The submission from hawks to the league, there's a few issues.. Towards the end it states that it is a similar situation as the round 4 cyclone round, Talk about clutching at straws for explanations. And the other part about there still being a threat even if Boxsell wasn't played, that's a joke, why would any body want to have a crack at some kids on or off the field that prior to halfway through the year weren't even associated with Boxsell (not that I beleive anyone would have had a crack at him at all if he did play) poor submission by hawks with no substance and no strong argument, throw the book at them, maybe not in the form of getting rid of them from the league but the penalty needs to be harsh to ensure this never happens again.

You are entitled to your own opinion like everyone else. I don't agree with your opinion & many others don't agree with your opinion.....but you're entitled to your opinion.

10 yrs ago north cairns made international news with there actions and the players got sanctioned. Hawks who were worried for there personal safety are kicked out if the league. Let's hope the other clubs stand up to the league and say we won't accept it. If not I'm happy to chip in $100 for hawks legal fund. Bad decision by the board at cafl. A step backwards.
Re the Hawks legal fund, thanks for the offer but the legal eagles are queuing up to take this on - pro bono.

Hawks are having an open Q & A forum on Thursday 11 September at the Hawkies Bar at 7pm. Anybody, being players, supporters, players & supporters of other clubs & the public in general are invited to attend. This is an opportunity for everyone's & anyone's questions to be answered & to find out what's happening or planned in relation to the decision & to gauge the support we may or may not have as a club facing probable extinction after 30 years in the league. Everyone is welcome.

A very unfortunate set of circumstances, the league have effectively said bugger player safety. The league were the ones that rasied the issue to the Hawks in the first place and then pulled out of any committment at the 11th hour. The league have a duty of care to look after players and it's just not up to the clubs. To blame Boxsall for all of this is pathetic. As previously mentioned, all charges against him have been dropped. How dare people on here castigate another club for accepting a player on their roster. What the f___k does it have to do with you anyway? After speaking with others, Boxsall has been well accepted at the Hawks and I for one hope he sticks around. As for the submission, I think it clearly states the facts as it happened and it clearly shows that the league did not fulfil it's obligations. The committee took it to the players and the players voted. Boxsall quite clearly elected to stand down from the game in an attempt to reduce any risk of harm to his team mates.

Now to talk about football the game we apparently love, the Cutters showed again on the weekend that they need to work on getting the ball down the Till St wing. Great work on keeping Walshy quiet and a few times I seen him caught out of position. But while you keep old Walshy quiet, someone else comes in and gets the goals. Didn't see the Norths V Port game but was reliably told that it was boring.

Here's the Hawks submissions to the show cause notice issued by AFL Cairns:-

Thanks for sharing this , very interesting.
To me in the clubs favour , there was no notice ( & I re-read the show cause notice 3x) on what the security arrangements would be OTHER than 2 police , 4 security guards. On my line of thinking that is absurd considering the openness of the Port Douglas Sporting Precinct. The threat may had been initiated (& we don't know in what form it was to take place) from any part of the open area, There was also a Rugby Union game scheduled in the sporting precinct as well that day. Normally if a threat is made to politicians the protection goes over board, but not so here, to the general public. Why are we not hearing from PD ???? NO SUPPORT for the Hawks ???? What were they prepared to do other than assist with payment to 2 police & 4 security guards.

It's on public record I believe that the board consists of Gary Young, Reg Lillywhite, Nick Trompf, Steve Olly & Tom Jones.

Gary Young & , Reg Lillywhite I know very well but the others ??????????

Honestly would any any of these men have turned up to show support with their wives and children knowing a threat of we don't know of what, other than "Getting Squared" what ever that means these days who knows. I of one would not gave had my family within a bulls roar of the place and PD Should have moved the game to a reality safer place, I know it was their home game, but safety is paramount or didn't they care for their own in getting involved ????

If good enough wiping a round for a cyclone threat this too should have come under unusual circumstances clause.

QUOTE="all ok, post: 34970305, member: 153802"]Re the Hawks legal fund, thanks for the offer but the legal eagles are queuing up to take this on - pro bono.[/QUOTE]

Very interesting events to unfold --- The league uses MacDonnells Lawyers, whom Reg has/ had ties to as well along with the leagues past president. So this will be case for a huge bum fight with the largest legal beagles getting involved. So stand by to stand by. I would not be surprised at all if the AFL is dragged in for direction as they had to do 10 years ago, then they found out they WERE NOT affiliated huge boo boo then

The dreaded Till Street side, but letting Saints jump to a 6 goal lead is a huge ask to come back from. Good news Walshy was kept quite at times , D Lock did his home work :D now to regather , remount an attack

Fantastic win to the Cutters Magoos , 1st year & olde work horse Lawso coaching

Flintstone get your head out of your ass you absolute muppet. Yes his charges were dropped but does that excuse the fact that he belted his own teammates ? As for him staying at hawks next year I can't see that happening seeing as there is no hawks next year and hopefully never again. Good riddance Edith hawks

Other players have smacked their team mates on the field as well over the last 5 years. They were excused, why not him. Do you have a vendetta with him???? Police dropped chargers move on

Whatever have Manunda Hawks done to you for saying good riddance . Did you ever play for them ??? Did you leave on a bad note after the coach told you to pull up your socks ???

Why the abuse ???
All thoughts are welcomed, we don't need to go to the gutter to express them.
Liable laws are open to all media

Hawks have nominated the World Suicide Prevention Day "Out of the Shadows & into the Light" walk hosted by Lifeline as the community event Hawks are supporting with the AFLC Club Challenge & it takes place 5.50pm Wednesday 10 September. AFLC should be highly commended for this initiative that all the clubs are to participate in a community event as part of the Club Challenge. The purpose of World Suicide Prevention Day is to raise awareness of suicide prevention & to remember those lost to suicide - & significantly we remember our 2 club members we lost to suicide in 2010. The walk commences opposite the hospital for a walk along the boardwalk to a location near the lagoon where a short remembrance service will be held followed by a sausage sizzle. In Australia, tragically, 5 people die by suicide every day & it is estimated someone attempts every 15 minutes. Hawks players etc will be wearing their club shirts. Everyone is invited to attend.

As the old saying goes, "let he withouit sin cast the first stone". Well said by Flintstone he is exactly right, who cares who other clubs recruit and Barry59, the only person who needs to get their head out of their arse is you mate. At first I thought like everyone else, Hawks got their just desserts. But after reading their submission, it quite clearly lays out the facts as they happened. The Manunda Hawks defintely deserve to be penalised but not in this way. Quite clearly AFL Cairns are run by muppets/puppets and should go and make way for fresh blood.

Just a reminder about the Q & A forum scheduled for 7pm Thursday 11 September at the Hawks Bar. Everyone is welcome. Imo, the decision is irrational at best and is an injustice to not only Hawks, but all the clubs.
