It was noticed that not one of the AFL Canberra Senior clubs with CD's sides attended the League meeting earlier this week.

It shows the distain that these clubs have for District amateur footy, and does not bode well for the proposed 'affiliation' that is still bandied about, especially for clubs that are not their feeder sides.

I actually heard Michael Tuck is feeling pretty good and wants to play a few games with his kids so he's considering the tree change and heading out Yass way and bringing Shane and Travis with him.
Thats good then they should fit rite in with the two belco div 3 players that will be playing for yass next year.
There just mite be a spot for you in div 3 after all 3rd grade.:D

Funnily enough I've heard something similar. At least two from both Belconnen and the Jets looking to move out to Yass. It would be a shame if the blokes getting in their ears to play out there miss out because of too many numbers. Especially if they are 'foundation' players.

Hey cab wats hapnin champ is one of those belco players young rowie by any chance. It might be in his best intereststo get him to play for yass. He is the GM of yass valley council after all.

Hey we might even get funds for dressing sheds to be built, we wouldnt want the son of the boss of yass council to get changed in a tent would we:p;)

Saint its all happening here, the dressing sheds have been approved and funded seen the plans last night, they are to be completed by september 09.
The complex is the same as walker park .:thumbsu:
The yass boys playing in new zealand are into the grand final after a 120 point victory in the major semi. Are you coming over with us for the game ?
Heard the rowie rumor the other day but dont know for sure ,he plays cricket with the ainslie bloke coming here.:)

If that is true then it is disappointing. Being a Belconnen player I would have volunteered my time had I known about it. Anything interseting come out of the meeting?

I hope he gets the same treatment from the players that he gave the Jets coach early last year

As an outsider looking in.... If Daniel was one of the reasons why the Jets sacked/forced the resigniation of their first coach of 2008, then what is the problem? After being in poor form at the start of the season with doubts over making the finals, the Jets changed coaches, got on with the job and won the flag! A good quality of coaches is making tough (and correct) decisions, and if you are saying that he played a part in the removal of the initial 2008 coach, then good on him, the club ended up with the result they wanted!

Any other coaching news? I noticed that ANU are advertising, BMFC looks like Collo will be promoted to 3s and Puddles taking the 4s. Ricky Dolliver is the Blues coach for 2009.

hey cab great news on the sheds.
with those sort of facilities we may get a home semi if we get that far, they would have to be better than the ainslie oval shoeboxes:thumbsu:

good on the boys for making the gf in NZ, im not not sure if my pregnant hormonal wife would let me go to NZ though:p:p

What came out of it? If you have a way of making the comp better, selling it to the Canberra Times, have a way to solve the impending umpiring crisis, or have anything to contribute, AFL Canberra are open to ideas.

Footy in Canberra is about to get harder - suvival of clubs is not guaranteed, so anything that makes footy more accessible is a good idea.

Would Belco be interested in a night game through the year? (Ps - Boof and co, we have dibs on this one!)

From the Jets website:

Jets announce 2009 senior coaches
20 November 2008

The Gungahlin Jets AFC is proud to announce its senior coaches for 2009:

AFL Canberra Division 3 ("the Firsts"): Daniel Scholfield

AFL Canberra Division 4 ("the Seconds "): Troy Kelly and Pete Stevens (co-coaches)

Women's: Bec Goddard

Night games - personally, I am a big fan. Have played in a few up here in my time (againsty Eastlake in 3s) at Kingston Oval. Lighting is not fantastic, but definitely good enough to play 3s footy.

However, I would make the following suggestions
a) Have them early in the season. That will ensure that natural light is still OK, and the use of lights kept minimal. It will also reduce the risk of hypothermia compared to if the games were played in June/July!!!
b) Dont try to play a game where there is poor lighting - too dangerous.
c) Only play them on either Friday night or Saturday night.

I have heard a few blokes make comments about the Anzac Day long weekend. Maybe two teams would be keen to play a Friday night game on that weekend? Still gives you Saturday/Sunday/Monday off!

Previously I made a comment about having the CD round 1 played as a "carnival" style with a few clubs participating in a quadriple header. I think it has some merit, and if played at the one ground resources can be kept to a minimum (including boundary/goal umpires doubling up for matches). Not sure how the canteen would be allocated either, and I might stay away from that one:thumbsu:

For example, play a 4s game at 10am and another at midday. Then at 2pm the 3s play. A twilight/night match would follow at 4.30pm. Obviously it would need some thought into who would play, and the format. It could include GF rematches -
10am (4s) ..... v .....
12 (4s) Yass v Gungahlin
2pm (3s) .....v .....
4.30pm (3s) Gungahlin v BMFC
I am not sure where we would be having this, I assume Footy Park is another 1000yrs off being ready?
AFL Canberra - organise a publicity event (get Crawf, Joel Smith etc from Yass Roos to sign autographs etc;))
Just some ideas...

Comparing the lights at Stirling to Kingston, they are 10 times better at Stirling...

Now to convince the coach, the committee and our opposition that an ANZAC-eve game would be a good thing.

ok guys , i have been sitting back and watching what has been said, but i think it is time to come clean, ok ben dixon and joel smith will not be playing at yass next year, but it was quite funny to see the yass subway come up for sale just after i posted that, and benny mac doesnt have any brothers so i guess they wont be playing either, but all the other names i mentioned are deffinately in the mix. I thought most of you would not be gullable enough (except maybe wonky) to believe that, but it was funny to see some comments made. My plan worked because it created interest out at little old yass and some new recruits for next year will be on the cards. As for abh playing well that was all his fault, yes abh i am dobbing you in, he is older than me and will not be playing next year, so no need to eat straw hats juicy, good luck to all clubs next year and dont forget to go easy on the umpires, especially the new ones. looks like crawf might be playing a few games for his and my home town finley. they are on the bottom of the murray league ladder and he may be returning to play a few games to help them out. might be worth a trip back home to see that one, gate takings should be up

Is ABH as large as you ando:p:p:p:p:p

Footy Park is 2010 at earliest...

Whilst I am here, anyone interested in playing in the WBFC Golf Day - or sponsoring us if you happen to work for a major brewing company perhaps ;)

In a great boost to aussie rules in yass the new amenities block for O'Connor park has been given the green light thanks to recent government funding for yass valley council. They will be similiar to to the great new facilities at Walker park in yass if anyone is familiar with them, with work to be started some time in the new year but not sure exactly when.

Im sure visiting teams and the dedicated roos will be happy to see the last of the makeshift sheds:thumbsu:. Also in signing news a former 2 timeleading goalkicker for the roos is being tried to be persuaded to pull on a jersy next season:cool:

it is up on sporting pulse:thumbsu:

Is it just me being computer-illiterate, but is anyone else having trouble trying to open the Div 3 & 4 draw?
Div 1 & 2 and the Under 18 draws are all in nice, neat .pdf format, but the Div 3 & 4 draw is just a bunch of .xlms stuff in a WINzip file...
:(

I thought Nathan Thompson was taking some time off footy to be with his family! And surely he'd go and play for his old club, Kyneton, before contemplating a move to Yass!!! :D

Oh, and nice to hear that Yass might finally be getting some change rooms.
Will be nice to be able to go for a p!ss and not walk in on the umpires getting changed!!!

With the draw now settled here are my predictions for 09

Div 3

Belconnen
Harman
Murumbidgee
Gungahlin
Woden.

Div 4
Gungahlin
Belconnen
Anu
Harman
Yass
Anybody else care to have a crack !!!!!!!!!!!
