isn't the NSW side for the country champs picked from this carnival. Would that mean that any Canberra District Player picked will come up against the ACT Senior side:rolleyes::rolleyes:

...I'd say you just haven't listened. If a player chooses Div 3 or 4 because it suits their life situation or playing style, then why shouldn't it be an honour if they are selected to represent that level? You seem to be missing the point which is these guys are in Wagga representing DISTRICT Footy (amatuer status). So in AFL Canberra football - the guys selected are the best running around for DISTRICT footy - it's not hard to understand surely.

Jesus - they should make blokes sit an IQ test before they're allowed on here. Might make for some more intellegent conversation.[/quote]
Couldn't do that because then there would not ne a forum. In all honesty sitting back the past couple of days reading this you really can see merit in both sides of the argument. I can see where bush footy is coming from as playing for your state should be the highest honour you can achieve in your area. If i was picked in the AFL Canberra senior side i wouldn't want any of the gloss taken off that honour because they are readily handing out ACT jumpers to third div players. But on the other hand third div players who are obviously the more talented of the league THEY play in should be able to be recognised if they have an interleague comp. Maybe they can change the wordong or the name of the div 3 rep side so it can't be mistaken for the main ACT side. Just my opinion

Back to the rep team

The CD's team doesn't have a single player from Belco or ADFA - the two best sides in Div 3 (CD1's).

If these blokes had any ticker they would have turned up... 3GM - why have no Belco boys taken the chance to play?

They only invited five blokes down to training. One is in the middle of uni exams. One is over 30 and has a young fella he wants to spend some time with. Two are injured and one is just lazy!

I don't know what the jumper design is but if it's the same as the Senior Rep side then I agree, the jumper should be changed. There should be a distinction that the team is representing the Monaro (CD) League. Not the ACT. Just mtc anyway.

Well is there anything more satisfying than sitting on the hill at QBN watching the boys get up over the tigers? I doubt it!

Missing Takanen, DJ, Roach, Staite etc and with a team whose combined weight is about as much as DJ, the boys showed a heap of guts! Loved it!

Sorry fellas just sitting here reading this and just had to say one thing; go and read the forum its called LONG WEEKEND COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS. And they even say in it that its about a 3rd or 4th division ACT side.Oh and another thing use keep saying state footy, the ACT is exactly that a territory.

Very intelligent reply chaddles...it's what everyone comes to expect from the Special Needs Class! Keep them coming...no really you're hilarious!!

I have no issue with players playing District Footy, I understand why alot of the players do. All I am saying is that I believe it is disgraceful that these "Representatives" get an ACT jumper and can tell there family friends and anyone they meet down the pub that they are Representing ACT at a footy Carnival in Wagga. I would suggest there wouldn't be to many that actually explain that they are not only not representing the 1st 2nd or even probably 3rd (U18's) best standard of footy here but the fourth grade in this area.

If you don't likie what I have to say then so be it...this is my belief and I still haven't heard any reason at all as to why anyone would want to be one of the best players in the 3rd or 4th best league available to them.

Go hard...I am sure you will have some great Representative stories and photos to show your grand kids!!

You must talk the most shit ive ever heard out of anyone. I suppose your names James Hird or maybe Jonothan Brown. YOU SUPERSTAR.

I agree mate. Well worth the trip! ;)

I will say though I don't think Merv would miss shots on goal to win too often but we will take it.

The young blokes like Fenyvesi, Cleaver and Hartmann were particularly good. Regardless of the article in the paper today Overs did well too but did think he was beaten on the day by Kav (no shame in that though).

So from the earlier post, it is well worth the trip down to Greenway for the Swans game. Watch their young blokes and ours above and it should be an interesting game.

The public transport in Canberra is poor, but if you can get a bus to Tuggeranong Interchange the ground is about 5 minutes walk located on Soward Way.

Good luck to Raadts and Mahar coming back too. Nice timing for us, but not good for the boys if the mail we are getting is right (Broken wrist and ankle respectively).

Big losses for the magpies. Was Bennet J reported for eye gouging as well. They are clearly the best team in the comp but this could bring them back to the field.

Brown Hornet, does that mean you like it prison style?
You and bushfooty are either the same dh or shared the same cell.. Pretty idiotic comment for your first post...

Thats it Chaddles , well done..... when you have no real response or answers just go for a cheap shot with no relevance to the argument itself.

What is the old saying , the proof is in the pudding....... results speak for them selves..not one win over the weekend district rep side

Intersting reading the Canberra times where the coach ' Hill ' said we didnt have enough time to prove ourselves in the shortened version. What did they go away thinkig it would be 4 full qtrs then at half time realised the game was over .... well executed.

disappointing to see the CTimes on Sunday report it as AFL Canberra with out mention of Canberra District players being involved, why they bothered to mention it in the paper is beyond me. I didnt see any comments from either the Tigers/Hawks coaches on other AFL Canberra div 1 game. Your 'average Joe' would pick up paper and think our State Rep side got beaten by Northern Riverina which is a bunch of Potato growers who have a kick on Saturday to get away from the farm.

All you District football advocates can rave on all you like and but face facts , that group went away and embarrassed themselves , but at least they have anew tracksuits each they can wear down the shopping mall making out they are a footballing superstar!!!!

But they aren't representing the ACT. They are representing the Canberra District League, the new name for the old Monaro League. It incorporates clubs from all around the district and gives them a chance to play in a viable league. The fact that the team is placed in Pool B must mean that they are rated at a reasonable level amongst other leagues in the State - not just fat blokes out for a week on the piss.

The big boys get a go in a few weeks when they get to represent ACT - the Territory, not just a league - in the National Championships.

dear 3rd grade Magpie ,

do you want to re - assess ??

50% of them are not all that fat...... 50 % of them are .......100% of them were away for a weekend on the piss

Is there a pool C for next year???

Some photos from round 9 are now available for your personal viewing pleasure: Tigers v Hawks (reserves), Tigers v Hawks (seniors), and a few from Magpies v Swans. (I'm currently working through Demons v Ainslie.)

Honestly and this is only my opinion, I think it was attitude. Down in the Magoos he was a big fish in a small pond and he was head and shoulders above all that came his way. He enjoyed taking hangers and kicking freakish goals and he was having a ball playing ressies.

In first grade he was the 3rd choice forward behind Merv and Kav for the players kicking the ball inside 50 and I can tell you its no fun being ingored when you think you are in the best position. He was given several opportunities and didnt seem to be having fun. He just didnt have that swagger about him.

Then come finals time with the Tigers needing an X Factor it all clicked and he was outstanding and he has continued that form this year which should earn him a Rep call up.

Being an avid tri colours supporter i must say i have only seen williams play a dozen times. But to me it seems that he is one of those players you either love or love to hate. In the games that i have watched i think williams has a strong lead and a great set of hands, as well as being able to take hangers an kick freakish goals. He seems to have the ability to do the ordinary and extra ordinary which is rare in players these days. As far as attitude goes, being from another club i don't know what goes on down at queanbeyan but i believe he has deserved a spot in the ACT team and would be a great asset. In saying that their are a handful of forwards that are also playing well at the moment.

Hey all,

Been away and boy hasnt the sight been busy. Well done to Bush Footy for causing a stir. Wether you like what he said or not at least he made people have an opinion. While on the subject if you didnt like what he had to say you could stop any more insults towards the District comp and players by (and I have said it here before) starting your own thread!

I also wrote here a few weeks ago that Qbn's season was at the crossroads and after the weekend it is going south fast! The only saving grace is that Belco won and the Swans and Eastlake lost. My bet is that Ainslie would be spewing at the draw as they would love a crack at the wounded Tigers before they start to get some of their players back. On the draw how is it that Qbn would have played Eastlake and Belco 3 times and Ainslie once after the next fortnight??

Someone earlier mentioned that Merv had a shot on goal to win the game. How far out was it and what sort of angle on goal was it?? Also did Tuggers play the same style of play as in round 2??

Well done to Horney and his boys for winning at MDO. Any side who has only had one victory and goes to MDO and wins deserves praise and as for Qbn......you dont deserve to be written about.....Embarrassing!!

ABH (or other queanbeites) - who was Margaret Donahue and why has the QTFC decided to prostitute the name of their ground out to Dairy Farmers? Surely it can't have been worth that many pieces of silver could it?

3GM, I'm not 100% certain that the following is correct but it is what I was told when I queried who the hell Margaret Donohue is/was?
Apparently she was an elderly woman associated with the Queanbeyan City Council and had absolutely nothing to do with the football club whatsoever. There are actually two ovals that form the Margaret Donohue sports fields; MD upper oval (now Dairy Farmers oval) and MD lower oval - no longer used as water restrictions have prevented the council form watering it. From what I can gather there has been a push by the QTAFC to have the name changed for quite some time now but the council has always resisted. Original could probably clear this up but if I had to guess; I would say that Dairy Farmers are contributing some resources to the planned upgrades to the facilities at the upper oval in exchange for naming rights.:thumbsu::thumbsu: Can only be a good thing for all players and supporters.:D

Good to have you back ABH, how was the City of Churches and knob smokers??:p
My earlier reference to you smokin' too much was not a reference to the green leafy product so readily available at the Royal Hotel... it was in reference to the favourite past time of your fellow Adelaidians (see previous paragraph):D:D.
You at training tonight?

Fair enough then. I just thought she may have had some association with the club and it would have been pretty tacky to sell the name of the complex out.

What does the upgrade involve?

Oh but I will see you Thursday night:p

OK guys,

I have cut the squad to 24 and will put into positions later this week.

Remember this is a best 22 so far this season and does not take into account if the players are currently injured. Its purely who I believe have performed the best and would make it in the best side so far this season.

Please also note that I have seen more of Qbn than any other side and have only witnessed 2 of their defeats.

Belconnen (8)- Raadts, James Bennet, Lexie Bennet, Griffin Underwood, Ryan Underwood, Ainger, Mahar, Cam Illet

Qbn (7) - Armstrong, Kavanagh, Williams, Daniher, Lieschke, Dickinson, Irwin

Eastlake (4) - Clarke, Cooper, Rogers, McMahon

Ainslie (3) - Neely, Bourke, Hughes

Tuggeranong (2) - Takanan, Healey

Final 22 in position will be on its way soon.

Once again feel free to have your input if you dont agree

Here is the best 22 put into positions as I see it so far this season. Im sure there are other opinions on who should be in/out and who should play where but here it is for you to pick to pieces.

Remember that current injuries was not taken into consideration just form that I have seen or read about.

FP - Hughes (Ainslie) FF - Armstrong (Qbn) FP - Williams (Qbn)
HFF - J Bennet (Belco) CHF - Kavanagh (Qbn) HFF - Maher (Belco)
W - Mcmahon (East) C - Neely (Ainslie) W - Lieschke (Qbn)
HBF - Irwin (Qbn) CHB - Clarke (East) HBF - L Bennet (Belco)
BP - Takanan (Tugg) FB - Raadts (Belco) BP - Rogers (East)

Rucks - Dickinson (Qbn), Daniher (Qbn), R. Underwood (Belco)

Int - Bourke (Ainslie), G. Underwood (Belco), C. Illett (Belco), Cooper (East)

* Cooper can play back or forward. His form in the 2 matches I have seen has been excellent. Evergreen player.
* Bourke playing could go either way as I havent seen him play this season but if Dicko went down you would need another ruckman. Maher could do it but not sure if the old body is up to it anymore.
* Clarke is versatile but after watching his battle with Kavanagh a few weeks ago he gets my nod at CHB. Best game I have seen him play in this comp against Qbn.
* Ainger is unlucky but he openly admitted after his bag against Qbn on QBNFM that he had been a little quiet prior, so I gave the nod to the more consistant Hughes. Hughes is a strong mark and reliable kick on goal.
* Williams by all reports was ordinary on the weekend but this side was picked prior to the last round as I was out of town and his form up till then was fantastic. Again he is the X Factor! Would probably get the 4th - 6th defender which makes him even more dangerous if used correctly by team mates.
* Irwin has been the most improved player out at Qbn and has played 3-4 outstanding games and deserves his selection. Can be a worry at times with misguided aggression but has blossomed this year so far under enourmous pressure down back for Qbn.
* Maher has been a great player in this comp for 15 years and he shows no sign of slowing down on form. Very versitile and a player that I admire and respect even if he doesnt know it.
* Armstrong, Kavanagh, Lieschke, Neely, Daniher pick themselves as they are truely elite players of the comp and have been for a while.
* Dickinson is easily the best tap ruckman I have seen in the comp this year and his marking around the ground and his ability to gather a ball off the ground is exceptional. Can also go forward and kick a vital goal if required.
* Takanan has been the standout for Tuggers this year, hard at it and takes no prisoners.
* Bennet Brothers again have shown consistancy time and time again. Reliable experienced players.
* Underwood Brothers are new to me and the comp but have impressed each time with their ability to win the in and under ball for their team.
* McMahon is the tall, athletic target across the middle of the park. A cool, calm and skillfull player that will be hard to match up on.
* Raadts has been the best backman in this comp for several years now, big and athletic. The general down back.
* Rogers copped abit of stick last year for his up and down performances up forward. Not as easy to play in the forward line as some people think but down back in the games I have seen he has broken even with Kavanagh and Armstrong and that is no mean feat. Has found a home down back.
* Illet is a classy player who has silky skills. Unlucky not to be in starting 18 but great to have come off the bench in a 3 way rotation.

There you have it people my best side so far this year. How will it change before the end of the season. Even if you dont agree with my selections you have to admit that its a bloody good side!!

your point about watching to many qbn games must be correct if you are putting irwin in over scott hening, dave or john love or dean rouslten

ABH, Has Mark Powells injury ruled him out of your side or has form been a bit up and down?

Powelly at times has been awesome, particularly when at full stride breaking thru packs but unfortunately consistancy has been the main reason he wasnt included. I just felt there were other players who are more consistant. Hopefully for the Tigers finals hopes he can come home with a wet sail as he did this time last season.

BD33 = if thats the only flaw in the side according to your good self then I can cop that. Irwin has played very well this year as Im sure the other guys you mentioned have also but hey I cant please everyone. Roulstone was very good when they beat us but poor in the first round. On the other Belco boys well how many do you want in?? 7 not enough?? I have seen Belco only once this year and while the guys you mentioned where good, there were better players wearing the magpie jumper. I will also add that from what I saw in a very good position, one of the mentioned players was very lucky not to get his number taken on the grandstand wing.
