All over for this year!

Check out our new picks from the draft:
Pick #13 (matched): Isaac Kako - Small Forward, Calder Cannons
Pick #37: Kayle Gerreyn - Ruck/Forward, West Perth
Pick #39: Angus Clarke - Defender, Glenelg
Pick #61: Rhys Unwin - Small Forward, Greater Western Victoria
Pick #70: Zak Johnson - Midfielder, Northern Knights
Pick #6 RD: Archer Day-Lewis - Forward, Bendigo Pioneers
Cat B Rookie: Jayden Nguyen - Defender, Calder Cannons

My answer is that if a pick came as soon as 11, I'd slide back a couple of spots the following year. It seems better than losing the pick altogether. Many scenarios also, maybe Kako slides a bit due to being injured, maybe trade a future pick in - the slide would be the worst-case scenario.

I'm worried that Melbourne will improve next year. They are doing so much coke over there their players must be super fit.
But we didn't lose it.

I come in peace.

Will Bombers fans consider Hawks making the below offer

Blues F1 for Dons picks 28,31 + F2

We can then use 28,31 & 33 to go up and you will have 3 F1's. Allows you to trade 1 or 2 F1's for first rounders
And then we use pixie dust to get our NGA?

Not all three. Two yes.

You cant really say if hes not bid on in top 10 we can then trade the 2nd rounders for a F1 and not say if hes not bid on at 10 then we wouldve drafted someone at 9

A 150 point deficit i dont think wouldve hurt us really with our likely finishing position next year

And was worth the risk to see if we couldve held

Had a bid come in we get an F1 and the rest of points to cover for 9 regardless

I also say this because 9 was a very strong pick. There seems to be a pretty strong 9 with Tauru pushing up

Guaranteed a
H.Armstrong
Langford
Smilie

Edit: 31 and 53 can also be traded on draft night for extra points and banking up extra draft picks

Given what people think about this draft not enough value there.

28+31 for Blues F1 and a later pick in this draft (50s) is closer to fair

We don't have a F3 and neither do you, hence added your f2.

if you can find a F3, then 28+31+F3 is the only way to get our F1. Just spitballing at this stage since there is a media article stating we will try to trade up.

We have Eagles F4, if you can't find F3 then your f2 for F4 is another way but you guys may says its too much.

IMO once you get our Blues F1, then I am sure Saints will bite at 2 f1's for pick 8 which will push you ahead of Kako bid.

Again just spit balling at this stage.

Why do we want Carltons future 1st? If Hawthorne want to move up why is Essendon paying overs to help them do that?

Yeah not interested in paying overs for that pick. With the way this draft is rated those 2 2nds are worth a future first and a sweetener. And even then trading them for Carlton’s F1 vs two picks in the 40s/50s and two F2s for points and a potential trade up with Gold Coast next year might be a better play.

For us trading up to the pointy end of this draft doesn’t make sense. Too expensive and we don’t have enough talent/depth to be consolidating.

I might be open to 28 + 31 for pick 71, Carlton f1, and Eagles F4 but honestly that’s a maybe.

Another potential trade might be 28/31 + 40 something for Carlton F1 and Hawks F2

These picks have high value and giving them up for a potential late first in a similar range after all academy bids /compo next year in a worse draft isn’t that desirable

Why do you want 28 and 31?

I think we definitely trade 28 for an F2 and change(2024).

Clubs i could see us target for a pick 28 deal

North- F2 and F3 for 28 and F4
Sydney- F2 and 44 for 28 and 65
Geelong- F2 and 45 for 28 and 65
Dogs- F2 and 48 for 28 and 65
West Coast- F2 and F3 for 28 and F4

The Sydney, Geelong and dogs deals could be on offer for 31 as well, but we will need a decent pick to match the bulk of the Kako bid. He wont slide past the teens so we still need over 1000 points.

If 28 and 31 are both traded, then 40 becomes 1st pick used to match the Kako bid and its only worth 429 points.

Its why I like the Sydney, Geelong and Dogs deals as they each bring in an F2 and an extra pick in the 40s.

But the North, WC deals would be good for us as well as we have no F3

We probably pick Kako, 3 x 3rd rounders and match a Nguyen bid if it comes, so 40s picks is where i think we will be operating this draft.

I believe Rosa sees the value of this draft in its evenness (hence the quality deal he got for 9) and i also believe he is quietly confident on next years draft (strong WA ties obviously)

He might, but i dont think he is married to the idea of giving up F1s to get back into this draft. By the time clubs start considering it the players worth taking with an F1 will be off the board.

Net 2 year result could look like

2024- Kako, 3 x 3rd rounders, Nguyen

2025- Ess 1st, Melb 1st, Ess 2nd, North 2nd, Sydney 2nd, North 3rd

I explained in my first post the reasoning. Idea is to pair 28+31+33 to move up to GWS 16. The player we target is likely to be available there. Unlikely to be after 20. We won't trade for just 28+31, way unders in our eyes and you guys disagree, which is fine.

We don't have a F3 and so can't trade F1 without getting one back. Ideally we can persuade GWS with F1+33 but they too don't have a F3. Maybe we will trade our F4 for their F2.

Just trying to resolve a few knots and I was under the assumption you guys are keen to get a pick before Kako bid and having a 3rd F1 could unlock those knots for you.

We can do a switcheroo instead if that works.

Trade 28 for our F2 before Kako bid.
Post Kako bid, we trade our 33 for your F2.

I think you can do the same with few other clubs too for 28 or 31

PS : you do have enough points to match Kako bid from pick 8(1551 pts, 1240pts needed) onwards even without 28(677) & 31(606)
You have 2586 pts now, will be 1300+ pts without those 2.

All these picks will move up in pts and you will have picks with points to match your NGA player. Any deficit will also only affect the same round pick next yr( not your 1st or 2nd rounders)

Yeah we have enough points but we need to take probably 4 players after Kako. If we trade 28 and 31 away straight up our pick 40, 46 and 53 get used to match the bid. We would then be picking our next 3 or 4 players from the very back of the draft rather than early 3rd round (where a lot see value in the evenness).

Agree though, any F2s we bring in for 28 and 31 could be used to get back in if we see something we like and clubs are willing.

Just the general feel I get from this draft is most of the value for us can be had trading into next year.

I think we would be open to picking before or just after a Kako bid but i struggle to see the right deal being available for anyone trying to get in and around the top 15. I think the cost would be too high. But you never know what could happen on the night and every clubs board will look different.

tigers supporter. You have 2 Future picks and could trade into first round prior or post Kako bid.

Our two early seconds are very valuable right now. One plus our F2 could get a late F1. The other could get a F2 and F3.

We could trade 31, F2 for Geelong's F1 and 57, or the same for GC with one of their firsts plus 51 for example. We could then trade 28 to WC for the Hawks F2 and F3. Or something like that

Sacrificing picks this year for next is our optimal play. Anybody we take outside of Kako is better to be done on the rookie or SPP list ie with shorter contracts. Load up on a fistful of 2nd rounders for next year to go with our 2 firsts.

I get the feeling thats what Rosa and co are aiming for and if they go that way i am happy. Im not buying the hype of super draft this year or next years group being weak. Would be happy to trade an F2 back into this year if the right player was there.

Would also be happy to see us jag another F1. Like the look of those 2 trades. The thing Rosa has done with his pick 9 deal is give himself plenty of room to move this year and next. Opened up a lot of options.

Youd think we will be eyeing off those late teen picks with

F1 + 28

For a

Hotton
J.Whitlock
Shanahan
Lindsay
Joe Berry

Once there all out.... id suspect based on Rosas comments of players picked in 40s would be to trade 28/31 for F2 and points
28 and 31 will already by gone by the time the late teens picks come around as Kako will have needed to be matched by then.
