All over for this year!

Check out our new picks from the draft:
Pick #13 (matched): Isaac Kako - Small Forward, Calder Cannons
Pick #37: Kayle Gerreyn - Ruck/Forward, West Perth
Pick #39: Angus Clarke - Defender, Glenelg
Pick #61: Rhys Unwin - Small Forward, Greater Western Victoria
Pick #70: Zak Johnson - Midfielder, Northern Knights
Pick #6 RD: Archer Day-Lewis - Forward, Bendigo Pioneers
Cat B Rookie: Jayden Nguyen - Defender, Calder Cannons

The reason we had to trade out is because we couldn’t afford to trade up. By getting points, multiple 2nds and F1 we basically got 3FRP for 1

Sucks that we’ve had to trade out of this draft to chase value due to the lacklustre state of the list but we will do that twice more (pick 28 and pick 32)

While loading up with picks in the 40s and hoping for a good outcome. Only smart way forward this season.

3 FRPs for either 2 or 3

With Kako expected to be pick 10 that will allow us to match his points with 3 picks in the 40s.

So essentially 1 FRP = 3 picks in the 40s which is a bargain. Which we will be able to acquire by splitting our 2nd rounders (1 from Melb) and likely get future 2nds from other teams for the trouble. So basically free.

So after draft trading we should have Kako, Melb F1 (or a player we really like this year) plus two F2s to go along with our own 2nd which will allow us to trade up for another first given the new points curve (or out if we don’t like the draft)

With Future firsts available to trade we could use up to 5 next year to try and bring in A+ talent.

Potentially an extra if Draper leaves via FA and gets band 2 or higher

Anyone see ESPNs full mock.

Aparently we trade out of 28 For Norths F2 end up with Archer Day Wicks, Gerren and Barrat in the 40s/50s + Kako and Nguyen

Edit: personally think there were better fits at those spots then Barrat + Gerrin (also would be suprised if they last that far)

North Have pick 56 as well I think Essendon would want that pick included in any trade for 28 then can trade up with 50+ 56 into the mid 40s

Trading out 9 was a gamble. I know it gives us more flexibility but would we have done it if we were sure we could use 9 and still get Kako?

Probably not

I think the Dees’ first will be around 9 next year so in a way we picked up some free points for Kako

But I’ll be annoyed if we take Kako in the mid teens and then use an F1 (ours or Melbourne’s) to trade back in for someone in the late teens or early 20s

That would be the definition of a failed strategy / lack of willingness to hold our nerve
Who would be left at 9 is the question. Could well be two or three of the 180cm midfielders. Seems like Lalor and Langford will go top 8.
I agree I am not a fan of spending too much to trade back in.

I think people on this site need to accept cox is not going to make it.
He is physically frail and picks and chooses when to compete.
Agree. I rated him a bit as a possible intercept defender but the lesson for me was not enough sample size to make a definitive decision.
He simply has to find a competitive edge. He will not have a KP body and right now as you say he is selective as far as competing goes. I think it is mainly due to no confidence in the body and getting hurt but that is what he has to deal with.

Maybe he was played in the seniors too soon? He's around the same height as Reid and Bryan, and everyone says the taller players take more time to physically mature.

Yep you can assume they didn't expect names at 9 that they thought it worth rolling the dice on

Or maybe they had strong signals there will be an earlier than expected Kako bid

I still hold hope for Cox.
He has one thing, he used to be a athletic beast, he can get back there.
No reason why he can't play like Blicavs. Just needs to get stronger so can play KPP and ruck and rover and wing and other roles. also needs a bit more fire in him, hit contests hard. He got reported early in his first year for dangerous tackle, needs to bring that aggression back now he has some size.

what position - utility on interchange or sub. He's not in my best 22 now, but finish top 5 in the 2km time trial and would slot him on the pine.

My hopes for the draft
KAKO
shanahan or Harry Armstrong- trade up.
Hannaford - slider hoping in third round
Nguyen - late match or rookie
maybe Rookie Will Hayes - tested well agility and 2km time trial
Gabriel Stumpf - how can a 196cm guy be the quickest over 20m. Plus best vertical leap, worth a shot late in draft.
There seems to be a lot of guys in the 194-198cm range that could go in the third round and be busts or gems if could develop.

ESPN is just guesswork

Most of these guys dont have access to recruiters or player agents

Norths F2 does make some sense though for 28 or 31

Id be eyeing Cats F1 with 28 and F2 or F3 if possible. They may over pay, but do they do it before they know whos there. Latest mocks from Twomey havnt shown Dodaon there so maybe hes a very good chance to get to thoae picks

I would be very suprised if Geelong would give up F1 for pick 28 (32 after matches) with only 10 picks off the board. Assuming Kako gets bid by the saints.

Just a plain F2 and maybe some points is a lot less to give up and I think teams would take their chances
