We'll we're not in this year

Its pretty obviously this years rookies arnt as strong as last years, thats for sure. Less options all-round, way more riskier as there are almost none who are certain starters

There are a fair few who seem pretty certain to start IMO. I am very comfortable in having some on the ground. I know it is a risk that may backfire but that is what makes it fun. You can't predict and players can surprise. No one thought Priddis or Selwood would average 90 odd but they did. I think there are plenty of options to be honest.

ive noticed sometimes the afl website is really slow
and by the time my 10news comes on i miss lockout!

how can u miss lockout wen its the nxt day after the channel ten news:confused:

eg. first round: channel 10 sports(afl ins and outs) is on Wednesday. the first game is on thursday so you have a full day;)

what you mean by AFL sites slow:confused:

I know what to do, the reason I'm asking the questions is because I get the feeling there will be some DT novices that will read this and might get confused as to what Dog is talking about.

Sorry Tiges, I'll work on my clarity so I don't confuse anyone new.

Example:-

Houli = Starter
Palmer=Rookie

Houli increases to 300K, Palmer increases to 200K.

Trade both and bring in Scott Thompson (say 415K) and 83K Rookie.

2 Trades completed and 1 player upgraded.

Complete this 6-8 times to upgrade your team to the required level. Remember, the 6-8 players you are worried about upgrading are all in your starting 22. The rookies are only used to help upgrade them.

im not sure how it works
but i doubt that teams that arent playing on thursday wont be required to name a team by wednesday evening

Much clearer for the new players. ;)

Knowing that Rioli, Jetta, Proud and Hansen are in a squad of 25 is no use if they become the emergencies. Knowing the around about team is not good enough if you are sweating on the last starter for your side.
exactly
a donkey throwing darts could pick a rookie who plays 5 games over 20 weeks
but these guys can make or break ur teams

Blues, Cats, Port, Tigers = Certain teams

Pies, Lions, Eagles, Dockers, Saints, Swans = Teams 30 min before lockout

Dogs, Crows, Hawks, Ds, Kangas, Bombers = Squads

Would be nice to know about Proud, Palmer, McNamara, Selwood, Geary, Jack and Bird

Round 1 selection does not guarantee anything other than 1 game. It would be best to have no fringe players starting but if you must do it you will have to do the research to try to gauge the side before it is announced and hope.

for some reason in my mind i remember teams being named thursday, saturday games were only squads
hope im wrong!

Rucks are causing me a lot of deliberation.

For a while I was considering two good rucks (whatever you fancy - throw Simminds in there if that's your call) and then putting both Hampson and Kruezer on my bench - at least one of your bench rucks will always play because they're from the same team. Never have to touch the rucks because a short term injury to a starter will always be covered. A little costly.

The total opposite to that - Someone posted here the other day about the idea of starting Cox and Seaby on the ground, and I'm starting to warm to the idea. If either go down, the other domintates (I'm paraphrasing, not my original idea). Can get away with less expense on the bench and the Rucks still become a set and forget.

Neither of these are "theoretically pure DT strategy" like some of the talk in the last couple of hours (which I've loved), but it helps save trades for other positions.

Not sure, I thought only Sunday were squads and they were updated Friday night on the AFL website. Anyone with a definitive answer.

That was me the other day, probably just a throwaway to create conversation but has some merit if one goes down. Last year my brother had Warnock on the bench backing up Sandi which worked well when the big guy got injured so that's a possible idea to consider.

haha (laughing at powerflag08) why do u ask everyone if your team is good. I know that this is meant to help ppl out, but mann u needa take sum risks thats how u win DT. Its okay to ask about general questions but not tlkn about your whole squad... sorry but had to get this out of my system and this applies to everyone!

BTW what u think of my team
jks

Usually what happens is that all teams are named on Thursday. Teams playing no later than Sat. night were completed teams, stating who would start and who would be an emergency. Games Sunday and after were squads of 25, and the initial 22 was announced on the Friday, making the other three emergencies.

I could be wrong, and I often am, but teams need to be finalised by 5pm (EST) the day before the match, but all squads need to be named 24 hours before the first match. Round 1 this year we will know the Thursday teams, and the squads for the rest. Having a day off on Friday will mean that we won't even know the final teams for Saturday before the Thursday lockout. Happy to be corrected though...

Cheers Virgil,

Hopefully a lot of people are travelling Easter Thursday so the AFL website holds up until 6.00pm.

This is the best piece of advice regarding team selections, if you're not more than 75% sure that the bloke is going to play then don't pick them. Some of the rookies I have are not certainties and over the next few days I'll try and pick up any info I can through sites like the AFL site, the newspaper sites, Sportal, the team boards here s there is always someone in the know down at training who will give an indication. You just have to do the research but if all else fails play it safe.

I think the following are pretty much locks to play this week:
Palmer, C.Morton, Rioli, T.Tuck(especially with Hodge, Lewis, Crawford missing) and one of Bird/Jack at Sydney.
