Hey guys i am still going over my team looking at all the options and i have come across one that i cant decide on:

Salopek and T.Cloke ......or......Stanton (or even Hayes) and Hall?

Swuzz,

There are only 3 choices of players. Stars you hold all year, mid range improvers and rookies.

The balance is your call but a standard balance for your 22 would be as follows:-

- 14 players you will hold all year. These will need to average 80+ to be in the mix.

- 2 improvers you hope will get to the 80+ so you don't have to trade them

- 6 improvers / rookies you will need to trade at some stage. Use 6 rookies from the bench who have improved in price to upgrade these and trade in a new cheap rookie in their place.

This will use a minimum of 12 and maximum of 16 trades, depending on 2nd category improvers. Other trades are for long term injuries and disasters.

Your mix could be 1-2 different but this is somewhere near the mark.
Picked a team earlier this afternoon (will most likely change it in the next few days) and after reading this my team fits exactly what you have as the breakdown. However it seems there is one area has been overlooked, how do you then upgrade the 8 rookies you have as emergencies, if you are using 16 trades on upgrading your starting 22? Seems to me the best way to set up the side is to have no more than 8 rookies/improvers in the squad of 30 not the 22 as suggested.

That way you only use 16 trades for upgrading and then have 4 trades in the bank for LTI even then it is doubtful that more than 4 players on your squad would suffer injuries longer than 1-3 weeks. If you have balanced it out right it would not matter that much anyway as you would have good cover after upgrading. Could have it all wrong after all you did say you finished in the top 130 but maybe if you had a few more trades to upgrade with instead of having to settle for the 70-80 point player you might have got the 85-95 point player that would have seen you finish higher.

Salopeks NAB scores were pretty good.....but he go a lot of time in the middle due to no Cornes etc. Not to confident that he'll score many 100's this year.

And the flip side is that because of all the bigger name centres at Port, he won't get added attention from opposition taggers.

Thats what makes DT so good, no one knows about these things until they happen and whoever can get most of the 50/50 in their favour will do well.

But didn't cornes play in the 3rd of 4th game and Salopek still got 90 odd points?

However you do have a good point and i am worried about Salopek. If i am to get rid of him, would Embley be a good choice? or do you see him getting tagged alot?

Play more then 1 rookie (played less then 10 games and under 21) on the ground and you're going to be no good IMO

Has Embley ever been tagged? He won't be tagged IMO just because of the position he plays...

Put simply you don't.

Your bench is for 2 things:
1) Filling in for short term injuries.
2) Generating cash.
Nice answer, but how do you use the cash they generate without trading them?

Remember that those 12-16 trades include upgrading your rookies. 1 on the field, 1 rookie for each upgrade so you are effectively only upgrading 6-8 players.

Also factor in that you are unlikely to generate enough cash in your rookie ruckmen to upgrade so trades will come from other 3 positions.

i no its been asked but havent got a definitive answer
in regards to teams being named rd 1
wats the earliest someone names them publicly?
im in perth as well and the live news isnt going to do it for me because by the time i get the news its lockout
is there a radio station that does it?
or a website? and wat time (AEDT)?
because a lot of my rookie selections will obviously come down to who is named
and with that in mind as well, will we know saturdays final teams before lockout? and saturday nites final teams? possibly even sunday?

ive noticed sometimes the afl website is really slow
and by the time my 10news comes on i miss lockout!

I'm not having a go at what you have said, after all you did have a higher ranking than I did, just want to make sure that everything is taken into account.

So you're saying to forget trading my 2 rookie ruckmen, in doing that it leaves me 9 players in my squad of 30 that will need upgrading unless they have good years (50-70 point per game average is a good year for a rookie IMO) and I have 2-3 players I think are capable of that.

That now leaves me 6-7 players from my rookies that may need upgrading so thats 12-14 trades used, leaving me 6-8. I now have another 3 players I am expecting improvement from but not enough to see them get up to 85 per game but enough that they could make me another $250k. That means that they wont cost a heap to replace either, so is this the overall mix you're talking about not just starting 22?

Using last year as an example you could have played priddis davey selwood on the ground and would have been going pretty well

We'll we're not in this year

Its pretty obviously this years rookies arnt as strong as last years, thats for sure. Less options all-round, way more riskier as there are almost none who are certain starters

Hey Frantelle,

It will be tight, teams are named approx 5-00 to 5-30pm and kickoff is at 6.10pm. AFL site will probably be in meltdown, maybe Sportal or Fan Footy. Monty said he will be online updating Thursday night as soon as he gets the teams.

Dogs answered in the post after this one but you trade a rookie down (almost never up) and use the cash to upgrade one of your starters.
I know what to do, the reason I'm asking the questions is because I get the feeling there will be some DT novices that will read this and might get confused as to what Dog is talking about.

yeah im half expecting the afl website to die in the ass (wouldnt be the first time)
yeah would be great if fanfooty put it up straight away
in terms of dreamteam analysis and everything dreamteam they are light years in front

Just did my research and Salopek got 80 and 96 in the last two nab cub games and Kane and Chad Cornes were both playing.

Well you've proved me wrong :D
I dunno, just never really rated him as a good DT'er. Similar to Embly who can get you decent scores, but can get you some stinking ones too.
