Kicking meter is far too fast now. It's either half power or nothing. No chance of even getting close to full power without it being luck. Really should slow down depending in players kicking/goal shooting/stamina/distance etc..

Pretty much my concern, but I was not a good user of the shot meter pre patch (well not until I upgraded my players stats after a few games). Finding it to be the same experience, the shot meter moves too fast to the end (particularly from the 75% mark - onward). So a lot of my previous 50-60m set shot kicks I'd easily make......... now barely get to the goal square. If I let the meter get to the end the ball sails out on the full ORRRR if I'm lucky, it'll wind assist itself for a behind).

I've had a few pro games where I purposely sat back and let the AI go up against itself to see how it's reading the play. I noticed in them (and the games I have played since) after the patch they seem to rely on tapping the ball along the ground a lot more than they did pre patch. I have used the tactic occasionally, but I live or die by picking the ball up in a congested area (with the aim of doing a clearance kick away from the pack) - if I get tackled, I get tackled... but if I get the ball away = win :D.

A lot of my games follow a similar path, if they are not blowouts on my end..... they will be close wins. The close wins seem to stick with the same script (I fall behind some point in the third quarter, only to make a late charge and win in the 4th.... or sometimes I'll blow them away in the third, and have to defend their late 4th quarter come back, to just hang on and win).

First quarter started off with a goal each, Then Essendon got on a run and kicked 2.1, but I finished off the quarter with 3 goals and 2 misses. The second quarter was tighter, I couldn't penetrate their back half, they'd mark and rebound it down their end. Second half started off trading goals against each other, I kicked away.... Essendon would play catch up and would kick the last few goals of the third and first two of the 4th. With 4 minutes remaining in the game (maybe less than a minute or so of real time ?). It was 96 - 95, I kicked 2 goals to get to my final score. They booted one last goal, won the hit out (that took it to their 50m line) and the siren went :D.

So does the patch make the game worth picking up again? Or has it just caused more issues?

Very broad question, but overall does the patch make notable differences? I haven't played it still but will try find time soon as long as its somewhat playable now.

Personally to me the game feels much better, whether that is due to the patch or because prior to the patch I hadn't played the game for like a week. Less frustration with the opposition routinely kicking behinds, scores are more accurate which in turn makes for better games. Can't really comment on the marking because I'm just sticking to what I did previously and ignoring the blue circle thing. Overall my experience with it is much more enjoyable now, like I've stated you don't feel like you've gotten a cheap win because the opponent kicked a 3.15 or whatever, drew with the Pies after an after the siren behind from Pendlebury then beat the Swans by 4 points with a goal 2 in game mins before the siren, it felt hella rewarding

Now obviously my personal experiences would differ from your own, I'm glad I didn't return the game before the patch. Also I don't think it's caused too many issues, obviously the notable one is the lineup glitch. But I don't understand that fully enough to comment because either it doesn't happen in career coach mode, or it just isn't a glitch for me

Yeah I've gotten a few push in the back calls where I pushed the player in the back........... yet instead of giving away the free kick.... I've won it. I'll take it even if it's a glitch lol.

Decided to start a pro career as a listed player and I picked Hodgie! Might pick Cyril, or Isaac Smith next. Hodge didn't just turn back the clock, he broke new ground 75 possessions!! I had 24 at qtr time (my aim was to then attempt to get at least 96). The wheels fell off in the second quarter, only had 8 touches. Should have kicked more than 17 goals, missed a few easy ones (meter goes too quick at the end for me now) that either went for a behind or out on the full.

Also went back to the be a pro camera view, first time since my first career season in the vfl (abandoned it pretty quick after a few games), actually playing better with it than the side to side view.

So unrealistic. Lobbe hasn't had stats like that for years.

Fix up your forward movement so you don't have to take full power shots from 45+

LOL may as well play it safe and just mark it in the goal square :p :D

I have a few niggling issues with the game and have had to adjust the way I previously played the game after the patch, but I still love it. I've not really played many new 2017 games (most of this year has been spent on older games, or unfinished ones from 2016) I would easily say it's in the running to be my game of the year (if not number 1.... it'll be number 2.... Injustice 2 is just awesome!).

I agree, is the game perfect? No. But is any game perfect? I'm not some WW fanboy, I literally haven't played an AFL game since AFL Live 2003 (mind you that might be why I'm loving the game lmao), I have no ties to them. I'm just happy we have a next gen game of the best damn sport in the world. The issues are there of course, are there improvements to be made yes, but the fact I can fire up the PS4 and lineup as my Doggies will always be great fun to me

Anyone else finding that the interchange still doesn't work?
I've only played quick games but haven't seen one player come off the bench and yes, it's on full auto
I thought they said they fixed this ?
It needs to be like AFL Live with the way it worked their interchanges with three different options in terms of how often interchanges occur

It fluctuates for me sometimes I've had it work well other times it rarely happens

Overall I love the game even more post patch, it seems the Ai no longer over use the tap on function and that is a huge improvement in realism

I'm also noticing that somehow improvements in the patch are having an effect on goal scorers (so instead of the ff scoring a bag every game it's a much more even spread around the forward line

It's the opposite for me and I see comments like yours! For me its the opposite, they tap on more than they did prior to the patch. Perhaps it's also the fact that my "style" of play rarely saw a loose ball so neither my team or the opposition AI had the chance to tap the ball along the ground. I might have seen it anywhere from 0-4 times a match (be it on 2.5 or 5 minute quarters). Now I'm seeing it 15-20 times a match.

Post a video of you routinely hitting full power shots pls.

On the run and in front of goal, it's not that difficult, you just have to be a second quicker..

I have forward and midfield on attacking play and i usually have the press instead of man-on-man.

Under 45 and 80% will do it. The only reason to want to 100% from 50 metres is if it's after the siren or you're going for that achievement.

There's no flooding in the game, it isn't hard to find a deeper option. It's also more realistic.

May as well complain that Van Damme style spinning kicks are too hard to land in a UFC game.

I've had to increase the power to my shots (even from 40m out) so that they make the distance after the patch. And this is also with my created players set shot, goal kicking and general kicking stats maxed out to 99! If I do the meter around the same mark that I did prior to the patch, they barely get to the goal square.

I wasn't always an accurate set shot kick prior to the patch, I "Travis Cloked" a few kicks in my time :D

You can easily hit the same distances using a torp without having to max out the bar.

Also, Xbox?

Yes Xbox, I think it's me panicking during the set shot more than anything. I just practiced in free roam and hit it in the right spot more often than not. Also if the pc version is like free roam's frame rate in proper matches................ OHHHHHHHHHHHH BOY :D, love the speed and how smooth it is compared to actual match play.

I'm going to ask a real dumb question here, but when you make your own team, how do you put players into it without taking them from their real team? Basically, I want to make a team based on my Supercoach team, but creating a custom team and filling it with players seems to remove them from their original team, which I don't want.

Surely its simple, right?

Again for me set shots are travelling further with less power post patch

The metre is definitely faster but it just adds some difficulty to an area that had barely any prior

I think in Evolution 2 the set shot system could do with some tweaking though (I like the idea of using the left stick for run up)

Well if you ever come against an edgiepower remember to go easy on me

I think I've worked out (as it happened again) I never get the free kick for being pushed in the back, because the AI gets the kick for my player "throwing the ball" when pushed ? There's a definite push in the back call by the umpire and I go down like a sack of bricks, finf it odd anyway.

Another cool game (I'll stop these updates eventually lol):

Almost all of Hawthorn's score was my doing....... Tom Mitchell kicked 1, I kicked the rest including the behinds! It was a tight game, I came from behind in the final quarter to pinch it. Couldn't see how long was left, fist pumped the air when the siren sounded!

gUZUptQ.jpg

I forgot to capture the final quarters break down. Basically it was 25 to 19 at the end of the first quarter. They increased the lead, but I skittled it down bit by bit. 53 to 62 going into the final quarter and it was all Hawthorn, I kept on kicking behinds leading me to almost do a Clarko and throw my controller on the ground. Managed to kick 3 goals and hang on for the win, the ball didn't go into Geelong's forward half until the final lay of the game. My midfield coverage was too strong.

Also I love the graphical look of Metricon at twilight, something about the lighting (posted this early on in the games release). Next best is the MCG during the day in the clear blue sky!

Hi, get this. I haven't won a game on medium yet. :)
Obviously I can kick ass on easy.
I haven't mastered the bump yet. I think this is key to getting better.

Thanks for listening.

A couple

Sent from mTalk

yeah, same, i took a couple last night...

i think it's become more realistic in that you'll take one every few games on random...

but it'll literally take 40+ tries of pressing Triangle + R2 to take one, many will like that, but at the same time is it better to be able to take a speckie when you want to???

not easy question to answer. A question of realism and just wanting to take a high grab..
