Throwing the ball can be avoided i think, pretty sure you can hold the ball in and not let it release....

sure i was doing this in one game..

stop me if i'm wrong..
Ok, I will.

If you're holding circle waiting to release the handball and you get tackled, you're getting pinged for throwing the ball.

You just use the tap-on feature
What? I am talking about when you're in possession of the ball. If you're holding down the handball button and you are tackled, you're gonna get pinged. You can't tap on whilst in possession of the ball.

You don't have to handball it, you tap it on via a dribble kick, press handball too late and you will be pinned for HTB.(obviously) Unless you are fast enough to handball it out. All depends on your speed and timing.

wait, of course you can tap on..

Yep, same here. I get holding the ball, or if I somehow get it out, it either goes to the opposition or it is throwing the ball.

And if I get them, I get a free against for either high or push in the back.

Just not remotely true. The multiple-player tackling and tackle driving systems alone have more animations than most sports games, including AFL. It's the reason Big Ant invested in the purchase of a full motion capture facility.

Great to see you guys always try to push the envelope in games :)

Which one of you ****ers ended my 27 win game streak online (xbox).

Moved up to about 15th, still enjoying it.

My main gripe is the bumping, the umpiring seems to be different every game for it. So you basically just have to test it out early and go from there.

What the **** are you talking about?

I've probably played about 3 games post-patch and I haven't touched it since. Last game I had the CPU handball it to three different players, get tackled only for the no advantage rule to be paid.

I'm glad they kinda fixed the bs advantage rule, but there are far too many no advantages being paid in the post-patch game.

Will give it another shot after patch 2B comes out.

As mentioned before, the positioning side of this will take it to a new level.

Moving from 18 on 18 to the ability to switch play, chip it down the wing to players on a lead 5-10m in front of their opponents until you hit an area full of opposition players and no free options is what the game needs. Conversely, a quick break means you have players streaming up the field in space towards goal Bulldogs style.

The ability to flick between this FIFA style using the direction pad would be ideal. Options such as flood back, man on man, counter attack and so forth would be great.

I think you are missing my point which is in footy hundreds of times a game some one is tackled and can legally dispose of the ball yes holding it in and forcing a throw up is a option a very slow boring one. Yes you can tap on or dribble kick it yes but the fact remains you should at some points of the game be able to handball out of a tackle with out it always being a throw

I don't always win :(, this was a tough game. I never really believed in the "home ground advantage" talk that has happened in this thread. But Adelaide were invincible in the final quarter, I couldn't do anything against them. The two shots at goal I had were too little too late, right at the end.

The still photos don't do it justice, but I really love the rain effects in the game. I experienced it in my first match when the game was released and my jaw dropped (particularly with how realistic the water droplets looked (re: the smudged camera effect when looking at the ground pre game).

The game I played just before, you could barely make out the players because of the rain animation being so dominant.

I figured out how to be more accurate while rushing to the goal on the run........ hit the general kick button (A) instead of the goal kicking/aiming button (B). I'd run on to the ruck tapped ball as Hodge, pick it up and power the kick AND kick it before the 50m line................ scored a goal each time :D.

Starting to be a smart arse, instead of handpassing it I'm now doing a grubber/ground kick to my team mates :D..... did it accidentally the first time and the AI were dumb enough to not stop it, so I've kept doing it ever since.

Yeah the momentum system is pretty cool in the game and if you let the Ai get a run on in an away game you're screwed (I remember Live 1 had a momentum system but the Ai could never compete enough to make it work properly)

The rain is awesome as well and looks very good (I've had a few games in heavy rain where set shots are pretty hard to lineup through the rain on the camera)

The game looks a little clunky to the vision I've seen.

Are players easy to control or are they too sensitive or rigid?

I've also seen allot of spin moves, are they the most commonly used evasion animation or are there others like the simple side step?

Can you raise your arms take the tackle and give your hands off?

When you're out in space is it easy to take a run and bounce or do you get run down easily?

In the end to end camera setting does the camera move slow not allowing you to see what's ahead properly in time or has that issue been fixed?

AFL live 1's momentum system seemed to be more like rubber banding. When the opposition are you I front by a fair bit you get a run on and vice versa.

Depends on your definition of clunky........... I've played some rough controlling Fifas in my day haha (Fifa 2002 is still my favourite with how it controlled the players).

It plays pretty well imo, there's a few tight spots, but I've not had a lot of experience with hugging the boundary (eg: running to a ball that's JUST inside the boundary line) or grabbing a ball that's within a whisker of the goal line (more often than not results in a rushed behind, although I'm able to pick the ball of the ground in the goal square and kick a goal, or boot it off the ground).

I've seen spins, side steps.

It can be easy to go on a run (on the easiest and hardest/legend difficulty). But you need a lot of luck and stamina. I've done many runs from center half back to my forward 50 or even closer to my goal square). Sometimes have linked plays (eg: handballed off twice while continuing to run forward), have also done a Mick McGuane solo effort and bounced the ball 8 times before scoring.

A few AFL stores set up demo kiosks so you could try the game out, no clue if they are still set up.

Easy to control for the most part, pretty fluid..

the spin move is the most commonly used evasion, unless your player can run fast.
Can you raise your arms take the tackle and give your hands off?
you can either handball or dribble kick it out, no hands out..tap-on

you get more space and time to run, depending on difficulty level, but if your player has stamina and is rated highly, that always helps..

It pans in and out nicely, and reverts 90 degrees quite swiftly, it's a neat feature. You can see whats ahead fairly well, except during kick-ins, it's a bit slow there.
