Did you not see the video of AFL Live 1 posted just before? The conga line was even worse than in that AFL Evolution video.

Didn't comment because I didn't get the video to work.

In AFL 1 I played enough to to kick 15,000 goals and I can barely think of a time where I was able to run distances. For me, in 100's of hours of gameplay, it happened twice to me. I maxed out stamina and speed on there as it was the most important ability for me. Maybe it didn't happen because of difficulty setting I played on.

In LIVE2 it happened 100% of the time (very easy, easy, medium, hard, it didn't matter), and from two gameplay videos of AFL EVO I've already seen a conga line. Again.

Live 1 was mediocre, Live 2 was deadset horrendous.

Not impressed with the AFL evo game play videos, and again, you apologists can make all the excuses you want, and bury your noses as far up the WW butthole as you like.

To All you negative plodders. Notice AFL evolution didn't include the footage of the kangaroos playing on their facebook page... make of it what you will.

Dude I'm no WW apologist
I'm glass half full because I'm excited for this game, interested in this game and (very) cautiously optimistic.

There's quite a bit I've seen on the videos that I'm not crazy about but I'm not going to go hard at those things until I've got the game, played the game and have an understanding of what's real and what's not and make a measured and informed judgement.

Pointing out a few facts like
yes that shit did happen in Live 1
And yes Preuss' stats were messed with is hardly apologist. Just realist.

I hated AFL live 2 as much as anyone but my view on that was made after I'd given it enough time to actually base my view on it.

This game has had a good buildup, everything it's shown until this point had been positive.

"But they messed with the stats, of course conga lines are going to happen!" Brushing this away as not an issue it what apologists do. Call a spade a spade, and say it's an early worry.

On the promo box, it says "New gameplay, rebuilt from the ground up." Pretty clear it's not as rebuilt as they say.

I'm buying this day 1, but I wouldn't if I didn't have the option to return within 7 days. I am desperate for a average AFL game, but I will be filthy with a next gen AFL 2.

It does say AFL Evolution so i would assume it is. I guess all the players get given a copy.

If you have a look at the very last bit of the video does it not look like Cameron Ling lining up fro the centre bounce on the left?

Dead on.

I am concerned about the conga lines, it is a worry that a legacy issue has appeared in the second very short video.

Preuss' stats are clearly fudged as evidenced by the stamina bar. It's really not a great leap to suggest that it's at least a factor.

I'm not in the slightest dismissing it completely as an issue because of this but I'm also not going to call it out and rubbish it completely until I've played it, too many factors at play to make a definitive statement on it.

Watch the Live 2 trailer where you'll see a 4 or 5 player conga line

What happened in the north video wasn't a conga line, it was just 2 to 3 players chasing the ball carrier as he ran past and then peeling off when he was too far gone

As others have said, this clearly proves that the stats matter and players with speed and stamina will be able to outrun those who don't (which is something we've all wanted)

every AFL game makes it somewhat easy to kick goals, a feature you don't want to over complicate just yet, considering all age groups might buy the game.

Then just have a option setting for kicking goals (simple, medium and hard) - its the biggest blight on the game if you can only miss by holding too long. The wind looks like it impacts nothing. Move slightly to the right or left and then back and forth - straight through the middle. ZZZZZzzzzzz

I count that as the same issue, they don't have to be in an actual line, just ghosting a player without making ground. It looks like an under 10's football game.

Out of curiosity, what do you suggest for the goal kicking mechanic?

Make the wind more of a factor. Make the power meter fill up much more quickly to heighten the risk of over/under kicking it. When you push the right stick forward, make any slight left/right movement of the stick have more of an impact on the kick ie. Slice the kick or hook the kick.

I really don't want to see anymore scorelines like 12.1 vs 14.3 like the old games.

Ok. Just wasn't sure if people had an issue with using the stick as the mechanic and wanted a button press instead or what.

Definitely use the stick for goal kicking I think. I just hope on harder difficulty settings the stuff I mentioned above becomes more prominent and makes it a genuine challenge to kick a set shot goal.

I guess the other thing is, seeing as we can adjust players' stats, it wouldn't be too hard to just turn every players' "set shot" stat down 10-20 points if goal kicking is too easy.

Pressure could affect it too. Like how in some NBA games the free throw meter would shake and go quicker to simulate the pressure.

100% agree - make pushing up on the stick set the direction - not just pointing the guy left or right. Needs to be a defined area (sweet spot) to hit the ball - not too much and not too little. The sweet spot should increase and decrease as well as the speed of the bar based on player, position and distance. Wind must impact more than making the ball curve a little.

and yes...the six year olds should be able to use the current system.

Make the wind more of a factor.
What don't people get about this? They're quite obviously playing on the easiest difficulty. I am nearly certain the wind will become a factor when you're playing on a harder difficulty. If not, then we can rubbish that element of the game. You've seen a grand total of about 3 set shots and, in my opinion, each of them have moved slightly with the wind.

Offline I'd just prefer a button press, with % of success influenced by player goalkicking attribute, position and weather.

I did mention in my follow up post about difficulty levels hopefully having an impact on goal kicking in general.
