Thanks to auto-interchange I always had crazy things like Selwood or some other random in the ruck, with Nic Nat in the forward line and Cox on the bench

I've never understood why it was stuffed up so badly. All players should have a preferred position (in this case Cox and Nic Nat would have both been ruckmen, obviously) then if neither can ruck for whatever reason, it should go to the next most-relevant variable. Height. Sorted. Don't even need to have a variable for second favourite position for your ruckmen-forwards if it's too much work. Height works well enough as a backup.

But no, Live 2 would choose Selwood.
Fairly certain it was like that in Live 1 as well. I once even had Jarryd Blair (who's 174cm) in the ruck at one point. I reckon they should give the option for players to have secondary positions like in 2k for example. So if your ruck is on the bench, someone who's a secondary ruck will play there so we don't have situations where your mids are rucking. That way you could even have your mids can go forward/back without having to manually change positions on the menus to make things a little easier. Just a suggestion though

Both those things are in the game and in the manual.

We don't know exactly how they will work yet but I assume just very similar to real life.

We do know that potential draftees will show their peak rating but not their current rating when drafting them.

Sweet, thanks. Not sure how I missed them in the manual, sorry about that :p.

Wasn't there an achievement for getting a hitout with your smallest player as well?

It will be interesting to see if the cpu trades with each other. Because in 2k, the cpu only tend to trade bad players. This often resulted in boring gameplay. I hope we could see trades such as Luke Hodge for Matt Priddis but I hope it doesn't go too unrealistic like Dangerfield for Cripps.

If there isn't it's just downright laziness.
Bit harsh to call it laziness
There has to be a point where they cut off the fat and prioritise features.
If it doesn't make it into the 2nd instalment then I'd agree.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I'd rather have a basic feature like Free Agency rather than 10 or so International teams.

The first thing I'm going to do when I fire up the game is load up an exhilarating match between fierce rivals Denmark and Papua New Guinea, nevermind the fact that the games main mode is lacking in basic features, I've got my international teams and the Wicked Witch All Stars to play with.

Basic feature? Hardly..
It'd be nice but it throws a lot of spanners in the works for a career mode.
Restricted FA's unrestricted FA's
You'd have to have contracts/negotiations, salary cap implications. And AI with CPU controlled teams doing all this as well as AI bidding.
There's a lot of work under the hood for a feature that really isn't vital at this stage.

You don't even need to have the restricted/unrestricted stuff, just make it so the player has the option to change to any team that wants him at the end of his contract, pretty straightforward.

The contracts, negotiations and salary cap are already included in the game because of the trading system and WW said we'd be able to negotiate our contract with our own club, but somehow not with others.

Bettrr than no free agency surely.

I agree and I'd like free agency to be in but as I said, there has to be a feature cut off point.
And surely FA isn't a must have feature that we can't live without in a first iteration.
No way would it be as easy as its being made out to be either, and have it work well enough to keep people happy.

I'd prefer free agency over the Indian national team and the AFL women's comp

So you want free agency but only a half arsed version?
What's the point?
I want them not to bother with bullshit features like the Allstars team and put in useful things like Free Agency that really should be in a realistic AFL game.

Yeah but those things are obviously worked on by seperate parts of the dev team
It's not like for like

You can have all the bells and whistles and pretty little features we like but if the gameplay sucks no one will care about free agency because they'll never put in enough time to see it happen.
Get the basics right then worry about fleshing it out with minor features.
Creating teams like India or PNG or Denmark is not taking away the dev guys putting the smarts into the AI and the gameplay

You're basing that assumption on absolutely nothing

Looking at some of the player models it looks like WW have got the cleaner to do most of them, don't think that's the issue.

Users in the other thread have created substantially better likenesses for some of the players in the space of a few weeks.

Pretty sad really
