Debutant
West Coast are still rebuilding under Adam Simpson but are not going the full bounce along the bottom for a few years to collect high picks route. The fanbase and wider club culture is simply too attuned to regular success to allow it.
But while the young guns are blooded and find their feet, some old stagers are doing hard yards (to use a cliche or two) and Matt Priddis showed that can win you a Brownlow.
But will it translate to Fantasy points? There’s certainly some good prospects for the astute coach here, but also a few big name risks.
GET THEM IN
Beau Waters (DEF $344,000)
The injury prone Waters is a confirmed Fantasy points gun and sits in that happy position where the travails his body inflicted on him last year have driven his price down beautifully but left him fit enough to hit Rd1 ready to go. Get him in.
Scott Selwood (MID $459,000)
Another classy Fantasy performer struck down by injury last year, Selwood is a steal at this price and will gain serious value too.
NOT WITH A BARGEPOLE
Mark Hutchings (MID, $448,000)
I will confess to having been burned by Hutchings myself, albeit nowhere near as badly as anyone silly enough to spend the same as what Scott Selwood costs will be. No.
Sharrod Wellingham (MID/FWD $381,000)
Don’t do it, despite his dual designation. Understandably tempting given his history but I feel there’s far better options out there at the price.
WORTH A PUNT
Scott Lycett (RUCK/FWD $410,000)
With Big Cox having departed, expect Lycett to take his role as the ruckman who partners NicNat. Its his dual position status that gets him the nod here. Stick him in the FWD line and you’ll get good returns, especially if NicNat gets injured.
Liam Duggan (MID, $268,000)
One of those high priced rookies, Duggan gets plenty of the ball and crucially, uses it well, a quality in high demand at the Eagles. Simpson will give the kid and a chance and if he takes it, worth a sot.
