if ross doesnt get freo to the flag his season, employers will be a bit wary of his methods. Could be the beginning o the end for him.

Of course if he wins, he is the genius some commentators are desperate to call him

losing a GF is an improvement for 16 other teams. his methods work.

he's had the less talented team in every GF he's played and probably played well enough to win 2 of them.

Surely bookmakers/punters should price in the fact that Freo obviously won't give a flying **** about this game? It's not like it's secret information.

Match fixing is only a problem when you'd be reasonably expecting a team to try and win. Deciding to punt on a dead rubber is a mug's game.

of course they will. anyone who thinks gambling is ever a remote consideration for this decision is clueless.

Its ridiculous to make an issue out of this.

Freo has garaunteed top spot and has an aging list... Of course they should be able to rest their team for the finals if they think thats what will give them the best chance for a flag this year. (there is an argument that this is the wrong approach - but thats up to the club to decide). This has nothing to do with "tanking" which should only refer to teams trying to intentionally lose games, generally to drop lower on the ladder - this is purely about player management.

This is a common occurence in other sports - particlularly in football/soccer (teams will rest stars if they have an important fixture 3-4 days later) or in basketball where players are routinely rested at the end of a gruelling season. (and often during the season - if your smart about it and have the flexibility to do so).

The AFL putting a headline of "Are Freo Tanking" is close to libellous and just reeks of a childish response.
(though i thought the same thing when the NBA fined the Spurs for resting their stars in an away regular season game - after like 5 games in 7 days- and despite our B team only falling to the eventual champs by 3 points)

You cant really blame him for the GF losses to Geelong and Hawks, or the Draw against us.
Better kicking for goal, and the odd bounce here or there, and his teams could easily have won 1, 2 or even all 3, of those games. History could be telling a very different story.

Another loss would be very tough to take, but i think most clubs would be able to look past that and see him as an otherwise very succesful coach who just wasn't able to get quite over the line. I reckon most clubs would love to have him as coach.

Trouble is, it isn't just Freo in the game.

Giving Port an 'easy' win effects the teams from 9-12 who, in theory at least, are fighting for those places. (or if you want to be cynical and look at it the other way, it makes it tougher for Port to lose and potentially get a higher draft pick).

But that has nothing to do with Freo, and should have absolutely no impact on what their selectors decide to do to prepare themselves for a run a the flag.

I might have known you'd lap it up.
I might have known you'd be ok with it, accepting that from a Freo coach.
Congrats on being an example of the lowest common denominator they aim this stuff at.
The "Stuff" you're referring too was a direct quote taken from your coach, in what was a soft statement. I don't hear any other finals coach complaining that their players are fatigued. But again, that's just what's acceptable at Freo

Just the team for the job, don't forget they have already lost to Brisbane AND Carlton this season.

They could rest the whole team, what does it matter? Why do people get angry about it? They have earned the right to rest players by being good during the season, which is fine.

Just stupid AFL worried about their 'brand'. Big soccer teams in Europe do the same thing if they have important games coming up, or even smaller ones if they are concentrating on a cup later in a season.

It's funny how people conveniently forget their bias vs. Ross "Lyin'" to suit their argument.

All teams are carrying niggles this time of the year. Most finals bound teams have been managing their players weeks ago. Because if all the furor caused by the mass resting in 2013, Freo have to tread lightly with this whole resting policy and make AFL house feel they have a say (even when they shouldn't) and a good reason why Freo want to do it.
Yes preemptive stroke by Lyon
