Really enjoying online games at the moment. Only started when psn came back up. Im 15-7 with 20 quitters (swas flogging them all).

The best game I've had wa sjust now. Played Carlton (me) vs Collingwood. They were always able to find loose men and outmark me when they went into their 50. Quarter time was 0-33. 2nd quarter was a real arm wrestle, the ball went up and down the ground like circle work. Half time 1-34. I didnt get a goal until mid way through the 3rd quarter, and got a bit of momentum to at least show some respectability. 20-41. Last quarter they got the first goal to lead by 27, but then I started winning the ruck and taking risks. With 1 minute to go I kicked for goal to level the scores and missed 43-48. They played on, kicked in under pressure to 40m out. Henderson marks. They put a blocker in my kicking arc. Siren Goes!! The A.I moves them out of the way. 20km/h wind against me and over my left shoulder. GOAL!!!!!!!!! I couldnt believe it because for most of the last quarter they seemed to be mucking around, rushing behinds etc to keep me from quitting.

Im ranked about 150th and on the way up!! Really loving it, and loving reading other peoples great matches also.

I'm thinking the reason people quit this game is because when someone has a large skill advantage they win very, very easily.

It seems very obvious, and I think it is a little bit of a downside for the game. Other games like Fifa/NBA2k11 are much more fun to play when you are worse than your opponent. Whereas AFL Live seems to me to be pretty boring when you are getting flogged. The scoreline also quickly reaches the point of being unsurmountable.

name of said person, i wish to verse them haha.
I'll be on PS3 late tonight (after 10pm) for my first online game. JADED6
Percentage booster for the lucky soul who's drawn to play me.

I've finished a season on Amatuer only (easiest difficulty)
Played a 5min quarter on legend and was down 2.3 to 0.1 at quarter time. Not so bad as I stemmed the flow but the quarter was played between the 2 50's, tackle & ball up fest. Was very hard to get a scoring opportunity.

Those finding the game easy will light it up against be. I will NOT quit no matter the score.

This could be true, there is no "rubber banding" in play as there are in most games, especially racing games. The problem is that it becomes exploited where you really don't need to play until the last qtr, last lap, or in the case of NBA Jam the last two minutes, the majority of the play is irrelevant (think Mario Kart).

I don't mind that it doesn't have catch-up though. Its probably more that some aspects could be more fun when you are losing. Its almost impossible to retain possesion when you are outclassed etc.

I'm not sure how one would go about changing that, or if you even could without screwing up the gameplay too much. And in all honesty I'm not worried about it. My point is moreso that we need to be more lenient on those that quit. I sure as hell wouldn't be inclined to play out a game where i was losing by 100 points. Which is exactly happened when my brother played me

I guess the solution is good matchmaking, which hopefully will be in the patch.

EDIT: I was probably wrong to name FIFA, not sure how fun that is when you are getting owned. NBA 2k11 though certainly is fun to play no matter what, just because you always get a chance to pass the ball around. Not saying that its better as such, just that it is different.

I think the main thing that annoys me is the ruck advantage. It is huge. You said it's being fixed in the patch I believe so that's all good, but really I have stopped playing as Richmond because now that the average skill level online has improved so much, it is nearly impossible to win the hitouts with Richmond.

you can win any ruck contest if your good enough. When i rest brogan my second tiered ruckman can still win the ruck. it just takes practice

Agreed.

No, I am quite good at this game, and I have played against others that are as well. When you are both very good players, and pretty much get the ruck right 80% of the time, it comes down to the skill of the ruckman himself. With Richmond, this is a big disadvantage. I know this because I have gotten frustrated and played with other teams (not Freo) and won the hitout tally, go back to Richmond and lose it comfortably.

EDIT: And also playing on legend, I win the hitout count more often than not. It isn't my strength, rucking, but if you get well beaten in hitouts it is very very hard to win the game against an equally good player. Which makes playing with shit ruck teams a huge disadvantage.

I get what you mean.
I love playing as Hawthorn. Except for the fact that their number one ruckman is Reneuf. On of only teams I seem to beat in the ruck is the Tiges.

Of course I'll easily beat someone who isn't very good but rucking seems pretty even online.

Yep that's it, it's a very one dimensional skill that is pretty easy to master. It's not like there are a range of factors to consider when tapping the ball, just wait til it's up the top and press the button.

Throw ins on the other hand are far more skill orientated.

Yeah that's what evens it out for me. If I lose the ball ups I generally catch up in the throw ins. I believe that punching shouldn't win as much, particularly at the centre bounce. It rewards mediocrity. At least it is easy to rove to.

Also I've found that fatigue plays a big factor at the taps.

The lack of matching up opponents online is killing me. I have played over 20 games and only managed 2 wins and 2 draws.

First few I got matched up against really good players but i only lose by a couple of points and never get flogged (plus i stuck out all games).

The next few i had, very easy opponents who ragequit after I get more than a 30 point lead in the first minutes of the game or with 5 minutes to go (cruel)

I have been reading alot of comments on here to act 'dumb' and keep it an even contest right through and smash them in the last, but that has failed me twice now with a quitter with 1 minute to go when i was in front by only 10 points!

The next came to bite me on the arse when the opposition must of been playing the same psych-out as me. Started off very scrappy and i reckon they were shanking kicks on purpose and running the ball through behind. The contest lifted in the last qtr; all kicks were hitting the target, plenty of bumping for both of us and it went to the last few kicks and I lost it by 5 points... FAIL:mad::mad:

Just recently i was playing a fantastic game Freo Vs Melbourne (1v2) and i had a good lead, let them have a couple to get back into it. Then it went goal for goal until i was up 47-44 with 1:20 on the clock with the ball in the oppositions defence, just as i was about to seal the victory... the gf strolls into the lounge and starts asking me a bunch of questions and gets the irrates and i lose my concetration to answer her for a sec then bang, they mark right infront of goal and Jurrah kicked the winner after the siren.:mad::mad: FAAAARRRRKKKK

/end rant

I wish there was a way you could check the rating of a opp. before you start a random game. Can't wait for the patch already.

Overall rating in the ruck for the Hawks -

1. Hale 84
2. Bailey 82 (much man love for this bloke, how good was he today? :thumbsu::))
3. Renouf 80

I only ever play as the Hawks and win the hitouts 75+% of the time with either of these three.

Aaarrrghh online is pis**ng me off atm. I have been playing 3 vs 1 for the last 3 or 4 times and its pis**ng me off. They always seem to be in space no matter what but i play alot better than them i just can't win. I just want to verse someone when its 1 vs 1. I don't care if i lose by 20+ goals as long as its 1 vs 1.

Maybe I've just been unlucky when I've played as Hawthorn playing against Freo, West Coast, Collingwood...

I smashed Sandi 25-8 playing as Pies. Doesn't mean a lot, depends on quality of opponent.

Jolly's no slouch though is he? Probably in the top 5 ruckmen in the game.

Point was it can be done with average ruckmen. Can't honestly remember the last time I lost the hit out count and like I said, I'm only using Hale/Bailey/Renouf, who aren't highly rated, against the top rucking teams.

It can be done, with practice and good timing.

i have 2 forfeits after my opponent quit.

why? it seems like it was the same f$%#^%% guy

first time my ps3 froze after the game this time it just counted as a forfeit.

I don't like the 85% and untrustworthy i would rather have 2 loses then 2 bs disconnections.

my 20 win streak it cost me and hopefully the patch can fix this?

ive played over 40 matches and no one has even came close to beating me yet i have 85% and 2 disconnects somehow. fml quitters
