Think the coach said somewhere that because there will probably be only 3 praccies he'll be using them all as serious outings. So my guess is that he'll be focusing on players who are in contention for a round 1 place.

Yep. If the AFL continues with this format I think we'll see less of the 'end of the list' type guys getting pre-season games. Which is bad news for guys like Toohey and Bourke.

Shouldn't really be expecting rookies to appear in practice matches in their first season, unless they're mature agers, anyway. Nothing for them to get to dispirited about.

Melbourne looked good, Vince and Cross are huge additions and seem to complement the likes of Jones and Grimes while Trengove could be in for a breakout season.
Frawley's got the better of Hawkins in recent years so should be another good outing for the boys up in Alice.

Zero importance, the ONLY concern is whether we come out unscathed by the 6 letter word.

Am I correct that the only players confirmed out with injury are Motlop, Bundy and Burbury?

Selwood has said he's a chance for this game. Murdoch, Kersten, McIntosh?

Menzel's out as well, and I think I read somewhere Murdoch won't be risked either.

Don't know how Stringer's hammy is too after last Wednesday.

Menzel,Murdoch,Cowan all out
Stringer should be right
Thurlow don't know.He copped a corkie at training last week.

Any chance we might see Hamling?.......is supposed to be 3cm to the good of his 194cm draft height, but I'm more anxious to know if he's added a couple of kilos.

Was in the short list wasn't he , so should be info Melb.
Actually it would worry me if we has a substantially different side , with all mature players that played ..staying home.

I'm a little concerned with the conditions up there, I wouldn't mind them running a few of the kids and the fringe guys like Schroder and Brown given another go. Both played well enough.
Maybe rotate some of the regulars then play who you want against North.
I just don't want any more injured key players, we seem to be losing to many atm.

Schroder_yes
Guthrie_yes
McCarthy_yes
Caddy_yes
Walker_yes
GHS_yes
Smedts_yes ........anyone else? Maybe a few that may need extra work.

If all the young one are fit , Id be happy enough to play a very VFL team , something like

Bews , Brown , Thurlow
Murdoch , Hamling , Blitz
Caddy , GHS , Cowan
Sheringham , Kersten , Smedts
McCarthy , Walker , Hartman
Hmac , Selwood , Guthrie

Bourke , Duncan , Jansen , Bates , Toohey , Subs Lang , JK

only one I could find for the meantime, Hamling is pictured right of Selwood.

Since drafted in 2012, has gone from about 78kg's to 88kg's this year. Probably another year away from getting AFL gametime but his natural ability alone could see him knock on the door if he stays injury free.

Thanks Bobby, he's the forgotten No1, albeit well back in the pecking order in his draft nevertheless Wellsey's first choice. Gee that midriff to shoulder ratio is impressive, reminds me of Harry's superman build.
I'm thinking if he shines in the NAB maybe should be considered for third up defender or third tall forward, kicked 6goals in a game last year after a lot of time in rehab.
He could be one to watch this year, I think he's done the full pre without issues, that weight's made all the difference he looks terrific.
Thanks :thumbsu:

Turbo, That's really insulting Melbourne:D but who cares, I wouldn't mind if they went that far, I like Brown as a forward though, so you're down a fullback imo, other than that, good. :thumbsu:

Well I suppose you could take it that way. I have thrown a few names at the board but even id be surprised spot on to that. My thoughts really centre on our prep , not how weak or strong Melb are. Play Melb at the Cattery and id take a different approach. By the way Melb may be dangerous at the start of the season , they look more confident and organized. Vince looked a good pickup Barry and their Hypen look quite likely , & long term I think Tyson and Michie are good addition.

On the structure of our side for the Melb game , Id have no issues with juggling players Brown forward , Toohey down back and perhaps give Rivers a run if we feel we are overly weak. You are probably correct on Brown , he played well enough not to be messed around. He seems more like a person who needs confidence from reassurance rather than a new challenge each week.

On Rivers , did anyone feel he looked fitter? He still looked to have the pace of GHS , and whether he is overly heavy in the wrong spots or its just the way he is built ... The last quarter showed a glimpse of what he is known for. Intercept marks and link play. For mine the jury is still out.

Rivers did look much fitter didn't he? I was quite impressed with his workrate. Same with Lonergan. Looked in great shape too.

I thought it was great to see him playing without the strapping on his knee, good indication he is over the issue he was having with it last year. Hopefully we actually get to see some really good football out of him and we see why the club recruited him and it stops people questioning the recruitment decision.

Lonergan looked good, but what about Harry - he looked massive across the shoulders & chest, he appeared to be bigger than he was last year.

I put in my thought of the game that based on what Domsy did that game the reports of his demise appear a little premature - And that forward line of th ePies was neither small nor crap…

Go Catters

Really hope so meto
Have only seen him live once and on that very limited view he looked well balanced and assured. Did a couple of HT intercept marks and hit packs surprisingly hard for his mass. Looks to have very good skills as well.

Hope Jansen gets a run in Alice Springs.
Did anyone catch the Blues game and Cripps ? I watched the last quarter and Cripps looks AFL ready , did some very good things and did not look out of place one bit from what I saw. Has an AFL physique already.
Both Cripps and Jansen played EF Colts last season - they are very similar in size and both averaged around 24 touches per game. They call Cripps the extractor but he does have an outside game as well , Jarrad can extract the footy but he is is more capable of accelerating to break free.
Very curious to see what Jarrad has to offer :)

Here we go. I reckon I've worked out who's not playing in Alice.

Mathew Stokes,
Andrew Mackie, Jared Rivers,
Harry Taylor, Mitch Duncan
George Horlin-Smith, James Kelly,
Jimmy Bartel, George Burbury,

;)
