AFL overtaking NRL in QLD

Young enough not to know the history of Australian Football.
I do remember when the Lions won three premierships in a row and people were saying the AFL were set to overtake the NRL in Queensland.
More and more people in Queensland are following the AFL but are they going to stick around once they realise the league is very Geelong centric? Once Geelong poach Harley Reid and Aaron Cadman it's going to turn people away from the sport.

Now I know you;re trolling because anyone who knows anything about football there is draft equalisation measures.
Some AFL teams have had good runs including the Lions.
If you asked any AFL fan they probably say that the AFL is collingwood-centric if anything.

If anything, by your logic, aren't people put off by the Broncos and Storm ?

Broncos haven't won a thing in nearly two decades while the Storm are based in an area where rugby league is seen as a niche sport.
Geelong don't seem to be affected by the draft and salary cap, they poach players after they've been in the system for a few years at a cheap price in terms of draft picks and they seem to have a clever way at managing their salary cap, similar to how the Storm managed theirs in the 2000s.

We can all welcome our newest troll to Bigfooty 😅.

I live in Queensland and rugby league is still easily the most popular football code in the state. News Corp are the NRL's biggest stakeholder, so they put out propaganda in The Courier Mail about AFL taking over in order to persuade V'Landys into giving assistance to rugby league in Queensland. We've seen it work with the Dolphins being rushed in and Magic Round being introduced in Brisbane.

Hardly anyone would recognise Lachie Neale walking through Wynnum Plaza despite him being the Lions best player and captain. If someone like Adam Reynolds or Reece Walsh walked through there they'd be mobbed by the crowd like a celebrity.
This doesn’t ring true with my experience as a resident on the Gold Coast. It’s not a certain rugby league town down here, home to 650,000 people no less.

Not sure who to believe with different views from different posters in Queensland.
The user who was downplaying the growth of Aussie rules in Queensland and brought up "real life experiences" as evidence also created their account yesterday and is already suspended. That's probably a pretty good indication of their credibility.

Now, do I have your permission to post something like that ?

Why do you need my permission to post a bit of mild banter about your age?

I don't know why why people bother.
Ancedotal stories usually prove nothing other than people move within their own circles.
I don't know why why people bother period.
Has anyone's view changed after having "discussion" on BF ?
I post a lot, so why do I post ?
Well, basically it's amusement.
IMO trying to justify spending $650 million of taxpayers money on NRL PNG is ridiculous if not deeply saddening and worrying for the future of Australian democracy.
IMO trying to justify spending $500 million of taxpayers money on NRL Perth is ridiculous if not deeply saddening and worrying for West Australian politics.
IMO bidding and gaining the Olympics and then not doing it properly is ridiculous and embarrassing for Queensland and Australian tourism.

Put the emotion aside and look at the figures.
Peter Dutton, arguably the most disliked politician in Australian history has a much higher approval rating than Albanesse..
Peter Cook, living in the Australian state of iron ore and honey is also at the bottom of the barrel.
Australians aren't stupid like some BF posters here. They see that the "logic" and figures don't add up.

But I have learned something and that is that PNG is going to be long term problematical to the NRL
for the same reason why people say that AFL NT is unviable in the long run without continued injections of money.
One has to ask "so why is the NRL doing this" ?
All I see is three men's egos. that's all.

As an asode, V'landies reminds me of Trump. He has a lot of showmanship about him, attracts a lot of power and favors, but is ultimatley offers nothing substantial and operates on the short term for personal successes qnd gains, rather than those of his organisation(s). He generates headlines and cult followers with flashy disasters sold as successes (like Vegas), but by the time it all comes crashing down he'll have moved on and everyone dumb enough to have put themselves in his sphere will be left holding the bag.

We will see I guess.

There's no doubt that the NRL would be taking notice of these kinds of articles/stats. The really concerning part is that they only just started a second franchise in Brisbane two years ago and it doesn't seem to be stagnating the AFL's growth at all. That might be enough to convince the NRL that they need to start a third team in Brisbane and base it in the western suburbs where the Lions are currently making inroads. One thing is for sure - if the Lions keep winning then they are going to keep growing their fanbase and it's really encouraging to see the early prediction is that the Lions will hit 70-75k members next year.
QLD has gone past SA in terms of TV ratings, participation numbers and providing talent for the AFL.
I don't see why the Lions and Suns should continue receiving leg ups from the AFL, unless they want to allow the Crows and Port to have academies as well?
