GeeLOL sucks, so does $hitney
I am outraged. I'm going to lose a lot of sleep over this.

Only kidding. I'm going to be OK. :thumbsu:

Seriously though, I have no problem with it as long as the back of their jumpers still looks OK. For those of us who don't have the number of everyone in the comp memorised, it will help us to know who it is we're watching.

We just got Shane Savage for instance and in spite of the fact he's played 50+ senior AFL games and in a team I've watched a lot of, given their ladder position, I still had no idea what he looked like, or what number he wore, so this will help with those that don't have high profiles from opposition teams. We'll be able to learn to recognise them a lot sooner.

Its stupid, the game was made to watch from the sidelines and that's why the players have big Numbers on their backs.
Will the sales of the footy record on match days decline because of this?

I'd really prefer it not. I know I'm a traditionalist but it's just something I like. I still like the notion that the #5 jumper Stanton's wearing at the moment is the same one passed down from Hird and Daniher. The same with all the jumpers.

I see it as just the numbers make up members of a team. Names on the back could make it look like a group of individuals. Minor, picky, I know. But I just don't like it and don't see the need for it.

Terrible idea, as if you could even spot the players name when the camera zoom is far out during live play, plus the quickness of the game itself, the only time you'll ever have a decent view of a players name is when a camera is right behind a guy having a set shot at goal, like what's the point of it, if you don't know your own players name then you aren't a fan in the first place

It's possible this is aimed at people who aren't diehard, 22 game a year supporters. People here sometimes forget that not all supporters are like that.

Exactly. It'll be great for consolidating in NSW and QLD and new markets like NZ, Asia, South Africa, USA, etc.

Pretty stupid to be honest. All about selling more jumpers. With the size of AFL grounds, the names won't help casual fans at all unless they're close to the ground and if you're at home you can find out pretty easily who a guy is. And yes I realise the NFL and European football leagues have names but again that's all about making $$$.

The AFL is simply after more $$$.

I do look forward to seeing them fit Kolojashnij or Bontempelli on the back of a jumper though! :D

Jay Kennedy-Harris
James Polkinghorne
Kade Kolodjashinj
Jake Kolodjashinj
Ryan Schoenmakers
Lewis Roberts-Thomson
Daniel Giansiracusa

Yeah, it's gonna be a nightmare.
