I think everyone (including the media) is missing one very important point here.
Apart from having a round in Brisbane and Sydney as a promotion, it solves another problem - Anzac Day is a Thursday next year, Anzac Eve is a wednesday.
Expect the byes will be around that time. Essendon to play on the Thursday night the round before Anzac Day.

We already have the mostly corrupt and morally bankrupt fixture in all of professional sport as it is.

Opening Round was a success for those northern clubs that hosted sellouts.
Interesting that Pies and Blues don’t want to participate next season. You could replace them easily.

Definitely a success if you look at it from a northern clubs standpoint.
But it must be done on the weekend that Rugby League is in Vegas or it's a bit of a waste. That was the whole point of having blockbuster games in Sydney wasn't it?

An unnecessary ‘soft start’ imo. I wasn’t fully invested in it and the following bye rounds it produced so early in the season.

The fans hated it, whereas they loved Gather Round, so the #VICBIAS arguments must be left at the door. NSW and QLD need to be able to host more than four games like SA alone manage to if they want it to avoid going down as one of the all-time flops.
