If GA club members are unable to access games it wouldn't surprise me to see memberships drop dramatically. A one year donation I get but 2 years in a row? Particularly in the current economy. Docklands teams like Saints, North and Dogs could be impacted far more due to the limited capacity.

Again, hopefully it will be short term and things can get back to normal relatively quickly (AFL pushing for 75% capacity apparently) but if not I think the clubs and AFL will be in for a bit of a shock.
Potentially, but as occurred last season, plenty of clubs reported increases in membership numbers as supporters actually rallied around their clubs...funny how people actually stick fat with their clubs when times get tough.

Obviously AFL Members have different incentives to club members, so maybe more of them will walk away.

Guess the winners there would be the people waiting to get to Gold.

28 at the MCG
26 At Docklands
Yep in R2, those poor AFL Members who may miss out on Carl v Coll are lucky that they can still access Dogs v Eagles on the Sunday....that is what they pay for.

The fans that will be shafted are the Pies and Blues club members who pay top $$ for premium memberships and miss out, and they aren't entitled to get along on Sunday.

That was a single season, if it happens a second year in a row there might be a different result

I understand that we will need to book tickets because of rona but surely those greedy campaigners at ticketek/master are not going to charge booking fees for games most people would usually walk up to

Nope. Got my membership pack from my club only on Friday. The letter actually says my membership card is included but it is actually wrong.
But they also sent a text that evening where they apologise for any confusion the letter may cause. It says my membership card will be sent separately from AFL in weeks to come.

As an AFL Gold Member with club support I can't see myself missing out on a ticket to most Melbourne home games outside of games vs COLL RICH and ESS, but to put me in a ballot next to GA is utter insanity.

Club members should undoubtedly get priority but AFL members are still club suppprters, we just attend more matches as neutrals. Put me down in GA for Carlton vs Richmond but for a Melbourne home game there is no reason why I should not get priority access over neutral AFL members and GA. I'll flip my shit if that happens and will go absentee for the year. I highly recommend any AFL members where that may face the same situation do the same.

If the word out of AFL membership is that it's seen more as an "all access" membership, then why have club support at all? I get it's for finals but why isn't ticketing already replicating that, with just heavier weighting and priority for club members and support?

TBH this sounds to be disconnected from the AFL's intent here. It doesn't make sense. We pay good money for priority access like this.

Club support is great for sides not based at the MCG where the reserve is so big. If I missed out on a ticket in the AFL reserve at Docklands for a Geelong home game (which is no longer a thing) I was always able to walk up to a GA seat. Similarly at Kardinia Park with my AFL Geelong Club support membership I could always walk up and sit in GA or stand in the terrace, effectively giving me bonus matches I can attend above the MCG/Docklands allotment. Without that perk there is no way I could justify an AFL membership.

Sounds like there have been lots of issues today just for these pre season games. I'm going to take any big match I get to go to as a bonus before full crowds are back.

Sure but I don't think this is why a vast majority get it. Collingwood and Richmond dominate AFL Membership and it's because they love football but also want access to see their club. Also it's not like cents going to clubs. The contribution on the back of club support is akin to a normal club membership. If that werent the case then clubs would be pushing harder for AFL members to join as club members. Our AFL Memberships also wouldn't be included in club member figures which they are. All the comms I get from Melbourne are as if I am a club member. Which in essence I am: I am an AFL Member, of which a portion of the large fees I pay cover my club membership equivalent. The rest covers my access to other matches.

I'm being treated like a non-member which is not true. The club has always treated me as a member. I was recently invited to vote in the board election. And now I'm being told that I'm not a club member and I have to get my tickets with neutrals and GA. It's ****ing ludicrous.

So apparently when trying to get tickets, if it says nothing is available, add a $0 junior ticket for each full member ticket you're trying to redeem. I just tried it and it worked. But now I have 6 tickets when I only needed 3 lol

And if your an example ,members will look empty and afl will wonder what happened to the junior seats they sold
