Do they still release the number of gold members per club?
Pretty sure they did this in the past but feel like I haven't seen it now for a number of years.

They havent done it since 2013 I believe and when specifically asked they refused to provide that info.

They sometimes give out a few bits of info on gold member numbers- eg on twitter in the lead up to the grand final this year, they said there are approx 7000 Collingwood gold members, 1,000 Melbourne gold members and 200 WCE gold members. But a definitive list appears hard to produce!

Not sure how this plays out as I contacted the AFL membership department to obtain some guidance on signing up my young bloke ( 2 years old ) one off joining fee of $210.00 then nothing to pay until 7 years of age but was told give it take a year or two waiting list for gold if signed up in 2019 would be around the 18 year mark. I have been silver for 5 years and still 8-10 year wait. Guess I’ll need to show some patience lol

Quick question please
  • The AFL website has silver membership at $62 per month for 10 months
  • I currently pay approx $45 a month for 10 months
Does this mean my fee is going to go up to $62 or am i locked in at the lower rate?

The $62 includes the joining fee.

new members would pay that with the joining fee spread out over the 10 payments
existing silver members will pay less

Interesting, they've removed all mention of the joining fee from the website - nor does it say the fee will drop in the second year

I rang and asked a few weeks ago. $620 is the price for new members and $465 is the price for continuing members.

I agree that it is very confusing. The AFL are doing themselves a disservice as the way the pricing is presented, new members will assume that it will be $620/year every year.

It is definitely weird. Are the AFL worried that there'll be too many silver members and are trying to dissuade people joining?

No point dissuading more silver members. More silver members = more weekly attendance = more games they can take away decent walk up seats

It is very odd, the website does list the price as $620/season for silver members. You would think they would list it as $465/season, with a note about a one-off joining fee. It's a pretty significant difference for someone thinking of joining, and doing the maths about what is the best value for money option.

Just a question here, are you saying you pay a one-off joining fee for your son for $210 and they go onto the Gold waiting list immediately, then when they are 7 years old, the fee becomes the full silver membership fee until they reach Gold?

junior membership is cheaper than adult but yeah

Yep they pay nothing til they're 7 after paying the joining fee yet they move up the waitlist like a normal silver member. I signed my kids up wheb they were born because of this hoping they'd get Full Memberships by the time they're 10-12. Probably gonna end up being closer to 18-20 I reckon (joined in 2013 & 2015)

Does anyone know when the membership is due by? I haven't got a letter but realised that I have an old address listed.

Have had an AFL membership with club support (Adelaide) for over 20 years and won’t be renewing in 2019. Based in Adelaide with now a SMA membership and reciprocal rights to all AFL minor round games except ANZAC day in AFL Reserve.

If want to go to Grand Final will purchase one of those packages clubs sell each year.

Each year the benefits of AFL membership have been eroded.

Im thinking the same, I'm Silver and I only joined so I could go to other granny's...AFL membership is worthless without gauranteeed granny tickets for any game .
I already get gauranteeed Collingwood tickets with my legends membership.

Has anyone got their renewal notices? I got an email today saying that my monthly payment will be deducted on the 28th and my card arriving soon.

One of my mates signed up a couple seasons after I did, he’s still waiting for his upgrade and I was upgraded around three years ago now. Is there anywhere on your account where you can see the waitlist number? He’s dying to know how far he has to go. Obviously the renewal notice will arrive in the next week or so but since I don’t have a waitlist number, was wondering if they finally came good on their threat to include it in the “my account” section of the website.

I got the same email.
If I remember correctly your waitlist number will be printed on the letter you get with your new card. I don't think it's listed online anywhere.

Every year they say it's available in your my account or on the invoice uploaded online to your account - but it's never there

I just email them every year for an update now. Fyi my sister has only progressed around 600-700 spots in the last 2 years. She is still around 4200 on the waitlist so could be anywhere up to 10-12 years still if the current rate remains. Only a couple of years back they were upgrading around 1500 every year but that has slowed to a crawl. I signed my kids up at birth, my oldest will be 6 next year and he is still around 11k on the waitlist - they estimated he'd get a Full Membership when he was around 10-12 but it's looking closer to 18-20 unless people start dropping off again.

Btw I asked them fir any specific reason why the upgrade rate had dropped so significantly. Last year they said it was due to a high rate of Essendon supporters taking up absentee memberships then coming back after the suspensions were over but this year they couldn't run that excuse. They just said it was due to a high renewal rate which could be true but I'd also guess there might be other factors at play (more full memberships being assigned to corporates etc)
